    I think buying a aluminum boat with 50hp or less is the best advice for a person who has never owned a bass boat. Trust me I know because I learned the hard way but fortunately I didn’t get hurt. The aluminum boat will give you some good training for what to do and what not to do once you graduate to a fiberglass boat.

    my first and only bass boat was used. the trailer needed work and the boat had some rotten wood where the trolling motor mounts. I fixed that with JB weld. Worked great! Boat worked great for a long time and the computer finally started acting up and I had to replace it. That outboard computer controller was $2K for a Mercury 200. Where to start? I spent the 80’s and 90’s fishing anything from club tournaments to Red Man and BASS Invitationals and ran 18’ glass boats. (BASS we were limited to 150HP at the time). They were pretty, they were fast and they were fun. Even dangerous in the wrong hands. After leaving the Midwest and retiring in Florida I was looking for a boat I could haul with my mid-size SUV, would fit in the garage and not break the bank I opted for an 18’ aluminum maxed out on HP. Ended up buying new because a boat left outdoors in Florida is usually junk from the intense sun and humidity and most store their bouts outside. The boat I chose has more storage than my 18’ Ranger, stable and more economical to run yet people still tell me how beautiful the boat is. Most aluminum boats come with 12V Tm but I went with 24V. It’s decked out with electronics. I can run it for a month on fuel I would use in a day on the glass boat. It can be rough or even dangerous on the big lakes like Harris Chain if it gets windy. I fish mostly a smaller west-central Florida chain of lakes close to home that it’s perfect for. Would I like to have a McFast glitter boat, sure but it won’t help me catch more fish and I can still afford to live my life.

    "JEW down the price" was the correct term sir. Pretty sure anyone watching your vids can handle the shop talk. And Procraft sucked all the way around....everybody know that. And back in the 90s pretty tough to beat the fun factor of driving a 90inch beam champ or gambler with a 225 yamaha or merc worked up a bit and a hydrolic jackplate up a windy narrow channel at 50 to 75 early in the morning with the dew lifting off the water... These new bass boats are just missing something...even tho they outperform the old good ones in every way. As far as driving and having fun sport drivin...the old ones are more fun

      I think you’re confusing easy to fix with finding a professional to actually fix the problem being easy. There’s far more fiberglass techs than boat welders. Usually a aluminum boat weld failure is return to the factory to be crushed. It’s also far easier to fix gel coat than paint. The gel is more durable and forgiving.

    • @bommert3816
      @bommert3816 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BrianLatimerFishing that highly depends on what part of the country you are in. There is a fair amount of aluminum boat repair shops in my area. Typically they only crush them if there is a significant failure in the structure of the boat. Not some cracked weld in the hull. Gel coat requires multiple coats unlike marine paint.
