New Smart Meters from Our Energy Supplier

- This morning our energy provider came round and fitted two smart meters for us. The engineer arrived at 08:20(ish) and was finished by 09:30(ish).
I was worried the new gas meter wouldn't fit in the box but it turned out the smart gas meter was more compact than the old dumb unit!!
The whole installation went very smoothly and the in home display (IHD) is very easy to use, the trouble is you could start worrying about the energy you are using!!!😳
It will be interesting to see what happens the next time I charge my Nissan LEAF 🤔🚗

I work for my local utility, and started out as a meter reader. I would have to go from house to house, manually reading each meter and recording the readings that determined determined the customers bill.
Most of the meters around here have been updated to be smart meters and nobody now needs to actually read them anymore. Sadly, it’s a foot in the door to the company and if I were to try to get a job in the company now, I would need to have certain college degrees or something. As everything modernizes and automates, there’s going to end being a huge surplus of people. Maybe some smart rich guy will arrange a terrible virus to weed down the herd? Hahaha

It’s amazing technology and far more advanced than what we have here in NY. You may want to brush the pipe fittings with some soapy water to make sure there’s no bubbles. If there are, call them back to tighten the pipes up. On my parents house they only made them hand tight and then left and my parents heard a loud hiss at night and it was leaking gas. Not good!
The engineer tested the gas meter for leaks but it might worth a second look 👍
The in home display would be fun. Big push for installation of smart meters here in the states. Our electric meter went in several months ago but as far as I know there was no option for a customer display.
Thanks for the review of your "ivie Bud" IHD. Most interesting. EDF have offered us an "upgrade" for our Chameleon branded IHD to one of these. The only feature that I do see missing, that we use, is the traffic light system on the chameleon IHD, three large LED lights at the bottom. Low energy usage and it would be green, medium, like switch a kettle on, it turns amber and red would be for high usage periods reflecting multiple high energy consumption devices.
I assume that the ivie Bud IHD does not have that feature..?
Does the price shown also include the daily standing charge or does that also have to be applied, along with VAT etc..?

I had my smart meter installed few years ago and my IHD stopped working a few months later. My SP EON has ignored my requests for a replacement.
How to connect new gas meter to it only got my electric connected
I got given the same unit from octopus but mine doesn't have WiFi for some reason? It keeps freezing tho and I have to power it down and restart it everyday which is annoying sometimes 3 times a day.
How is your display working? Mine says nothing atm
Ours is working fine but will occasionally display no readings but it usually connects again. Have you tried rebooting it?
Can you share your firmware version from your IHD as mine has never worked since installation (4 weeks ago)and my energy company are blaming the firmware with no time schedule to fix!

Wait till you get surge charges coming in might knock you down a bit
For some reason my unit only shows the gas usages and not the electricity usage which is weird.

Most have their own app
