@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery have a 6170 (mf) that was a very lazy starter, put on a geared starter and it transformed it. First tip of the key and she fires even on the coldest mornings. Game changer.
@eamondempsey3018 They make a huge difference, alright. They do draw a serious whack of current, though, so you wouldn't want to be cranking too long 🤣
@FlyingFergyMan Thanks, Cathal. The best thing about these videos for me is that there is no research or script involved, and very little editing. 2 hours start to finish, and I made that video. The history ones can take up to 12 hours in total !! Thanks for watching 👍
@peterre4422 When you say tester, do you mean a multi meter? For checking voltages etc? You could get a good draper or sealey one for less than 30 quid that would do everything that you need it to.
@@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery Perfect. I’ve got a few petrol machines that don’t run due to electrical issues and I feel I need to understand the basics. Cheers
I had a problem trying to start my 165 during the week. So I took the battery out and charged it, still wouldn’t start. I ashamed to say the high low gear lever wasn’t in neutral, and the switch was working correctly….
@78mikehayes Don't feel too bad, I once drove 20km out to a Fendt that wouldn't start... There was no battery in it. The owner forgot he took it out 2 weeks prior to charge it.. I told him it was a doctor he needed, not a mechanic.
Alan, going off at a bit of a tangent, when fitting a battery cut off switch to a tractor should the switch be fitted on the negative side or the positive side?
@westcoast5934 I usually fit them on the negative lead, but that's just out of habit. I really makes little difference, whichever is most convenient. I do find on some machines that there might be more than one positive lead off the battery to feed different fuse boxes etc, so it's usually more straight forward off the negative. 👍
Odd for me as anAmerican hearing your dialect, but using Milwaukee tools. Dean Daugherty repairs power tools on TH-cam, sounds similar to you, but typically doesn't like Milwaukees 😂
A really thorough video. Thanks from Canada.
@@steveh2 Thanks for watching Steve. I'm glad you found it helpful 👍
A great video Alan, I started my working life as an Agricultural Engineer, before moving into the Welding Industry.🙂
@m0ogy Thanks Dave. I'm sure you've stripped plenty of starter motors. Thanks for watching.
