For some time now, I've been diving more deeply into your videos. I am particularly enjoying what I might call your "fine balance between the technical and accessible"...really good stuff. Thanks also for your Gura Gear discount code which I just recently used to add a Kiboko 30L+. It'll be coming with me on my return to Africa later this year.
Another brilliant video, thanks Mark! This is something I definitely need to dive into and perfect. One thing I am struggling with is when I airdrop from the MacBook to iPhone the images look flat and desaturated. Not sure if it’s my display settings on the Mac?
@BrendanHarington thanks for the comment. There could be many things causing the color shift, but I would start with a monitor calibration and go from there.
Great and informative video as always. I particularly found insightful what you explain at 5:40 about sharpening masking amount vs. noise reduction before. And I really should give Pure Raw a try.
@thomas-bear-hecht thanks so much for watching and for the comment! Sharpening a clean file really is better for the overall image in my opinion. Would love to hear your thoughts if you give PureRaw a try!
Thanks for the comment - sharpening before noise reduction will amplify the effect of noise, and the noise reduction software will have a more difficult job at removing that.
Great post mate! Always explaining in detail and in a good pace. I see you are using TK9 panel. I'd love to know how much you use it in general.. nd if you do, it would be awesome to have a video of you showing us your process & steps using it ! 🙌 Cheers! thank you!
@wildpatagoniafilms16 - thanks so much for the comment. I don't really use it that much on my wildlife stuff. I do use it for landscapes more, but I find myself more and more just using Lightroom for the editing now, and rarely go into Photoshop these days.
Hi Mark, do you use different settings in DXO for bird feathers? I found DXO 4 with modules turned on makes my feathers look so funky using the same settings you use.
@anthonylujan - thanks for the comment. I tend to use the same settings for bird feathers as I do for wildlife. It all really depends on how noisy the file is, DxO or any software for that matter wont be able to bring out detail that isn't already there. What ISO did you use for the bird photos you're referring to?
With regards to sharpness, hest haze is obviously a big problem, what would you recomend doing in field to minimize heat haze in hotter places like kruger?
Heat haze is a sharpness killer that’s for sure. Not much to do to fix heat haze when editing… only thing would be to avoid shooting when it’s super hot. But heat haze can add a lot to an image, so I always shoot even when there is heat haze, embrace it rather than avoid shooting in it I say 😊

@marcusslade9804 - Thanks so much for the feedback, I hope you have a great trip to Africa with your new gear!
Great video bud. Love how you explain these things just like the previous video about grading.
Thanks so much Kobus! Appreciate that a lot!

Wouldn't it help to apply sharpening before denoising, to compensate for any noise sharpening worsened?
Thanks for the comment - sharpening before noise reduction will amplify the effect of noise, and the noise reduction software will have a more difficult job at removing that.
@ but, it would remove it. If one doesn’t the only way to remove it is manually.

Very informative, thank you. Are your store prices US dollars?
Thanks so much. Yes in US dollars
