@@Dr.Onenkala I think here is a possibility to do it and show it to others. But you may do it also with you neighbours, colleagues, friends or members in the same club in Germany.
As a German, you usually register when you want to visit someone. But it also depends on who you are visiting and at what time. After all, you could end up at a completely inconvenient time ;-)) For example, I can almost always visit my immediate, friendly neighbors without registering, and they are usually happy to see me anyway ;-)), as are many other friends or relatives. So it really depends on who you want to visit.
@Why-D ya sure I do that now, but as a foreigner, I still don't get it RIGHT sometimes and I get overfriendly (because I forget), and it gets weird again, haha 😅
About punctuality. I´ve been raised with the notion "being on time" is already "being late" so actual "being on time" therefore means "showing up at least 5 minutes early" at "official appointments" like work place or at administrative officials for doing bureaucracy stuff and when doing business stuff. In private life at "private appointments with friends or acquaintances" when someone is not on time (meaning now actually "on time" for private appointments and not being 5 minutes early for official apointments) but late I wait not more than 5 minutes and then I´m gone, unless I got "in time" (= always way before than "being on time") - a note or a call from that one for being late.( = because he/she is on his/her way but stucking in traffic or what ever so that the arrival will be some minutes late) and I do so as well = informing "in time" and not "on time" when I´m late for such reasons.

Very interesting; thank you. I personally think that the punctuality 'thing' gets grossly exaggerated in Germany. If e.g. I was 2 minutes late for work, my superior lectured me half an hour about punctuality, rather than getting some work done in the remaining 7h 58m. Not very efficient really. And I would like to know how many road traffic accidents are caused by the pressure of punctuality. But I do like sticking to appointments in general and letting the other know if for some reason you cannot make it.

All I can say is: As you call into the forest, so it echoes back and if you have behaved like the typical ignorant, arrogant and uneducated American, you have experienced the Germans as you have served them. You should only look around at your fellow countrymen who, like you, have served here and shown a genuine interest in the country and its people. They have had almost nothing but good experiences, but of course there always has to be that one person who offends everyone and is therefore rejected. In such cases, self-reflection helps, if you are able to do so.
