      Loved that side of 07/08. The football that season going forward with the likes of Fabregas, Rosicky, Hleb, Walcott, Van Persie & Adebayor was absolutely scintillating. The precision of those intricate & incisive one touch/two touch sharp & snappy interchanges, movement off the ball and build up play in the final third at times was utterly breathtaking. That was by far my favourite time being an Arsenal supporter in terms of that electric style of football that we used to play. Just a shame we couldn't get over the line and reward all that exceptional free flowing attacking football with a Prem title at the end of it:
      ● Going into that Birmingham game which Eduardo broke his leg in we had the opportunity to go 8 points clear as it was an early Saturday K:O on the 27th G/W before everyone else played.
      ● Including the Birmingham draw we drew 5, lost 2 and won just 1 of our 8 league games in that period which ultimately cost us the title.
      ● Finished on 83 points (4 points off Man Utd). The 2 we lost were 6 pointers against Man United and Chelsea respectively as well to make it even more painful.
      Even if we'd just managed to beat United during that horrific run of results it would have hypothetically meant that we would have won the league in hindsight if the 3 points went the other way although obviously I appreciate the entire dynamic of the run in would have been altered by those chain of events. Fine margins. We completely imploded from gameweek 27-34. What could have been 😔.

      My Favourite Player of All Time:
      ●Fabregas was 17 years old during virtually the entirety of his breakthrough season of 04/05 and made 33 league appearances (24 starts) in a side just off the back of winning the previous seasons league without losing a game, finished 2nd in that current campaign and won the FA Cup. Just let that sink in. Absolutely frightening 😲.
      ●Only he and Evan Ferguson have 10+ goals/assists to there names as 18 year olds in the Premier League era. Had to get that one in as an Irishman 😄.
      ●"Statistics show that in the five years prior to Fàbregas's departure from Arsenal, Fàbregas created 466 goal-scoring chances, made 86 assists and scored 48 goals, all three statistics topping those of new teammates Xavi and Andrés Iniesta, despite both having made more appearances in the same period."
      ●09/10 League Season: Apps: 27
      Goals: 15
      Assists: 15
      Who knows what numbers he would have finished with that season if he'd avoided a few niggling injuries during the first half of that campaign and not fractured his leg to Barca in March and been ruled out for the remainder of the season. I've no doubt that he would have comfortably broken the record of 20 assists in a PL season and in all likelihood would have 20+ League goals to his name alongside it. All from CM at 22 years of age in his second season as club captain as well it's worth noting.
      ●Made captain of Arsenal at the tender age of 21 as well. He was absolute magic.

    This was the best Arsenal team post-invincibles. I think in general the actual level of our play on a technical level was better than it was in the best Wenger teams between 1998 and 2004. Flamini breaking up the play, Diaby breaking off him with Fabregas and Hleb pulling all the strings around them. I hate to say this too but Adebayor was at his peak at this time and he was an absolute gun lone striker at that time. He was taking on two of the best defenders of all time as a lone striker in this game and he ran them ragged.

    That Cesc goal still gives me goosebumps.
    That was the best Arsenal team to have never won the Premier League. It was in our grasp too with less than three months remaining, but then we only had one win in eight, starting with THAT Birmingham game (2-2). That was followed by Villa home (1-1), Wigan away (0-0), Middlesbrough home (1-1), Chelsea away (lost 1-2), Bolton away (won 3-2), Liverpool home (1-1), and Man United away (lost 1-2). Incidentally, those defeats at Chelsea and United were two of only three in the league that season. The other one was at Middlesbrough, which was also 2-1. We were such a good team then but they just couldn't see the challenge through.

    • @gregkiteos1936
      @gregkiteos1936 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @GoonerBurns It's not so much about whether Eduardo could have "nicked a few goals," but more to do with how psychologically damaging that result was for the team. If we had beaten Birmingham that day, then we could have carried that momentum into the next game. Instead, we gave away a penalty in the last minute because Gael Clichy, who was having a blinding season up to that point, lost his concentration for a split second. The Gallas reacted was not that of a captain of any team. You'd never see Tony Adams or Patrick Vieira react like that. We capitulated after that.
      Also, talking of players' attitudes, Nicklas Bendtner was another one. Too many egos and not enough team spirit.

    • @arsenalrocka16

    Faultless night from The Arsenal at San Siro.

    What a night that was and shame we got knocked out at Anfield despite being the better team in both legs.

    • @TheLusianPopa
      @TheLusianPopa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you were not the better team against Liverpool
      I dont really remember the 1st leg, i know it was 1-1 and a tight tense affair with 2 goals from set pieces and few chances
      but in the 2nd leg everytime you scored it just seemed to anger liverpool more and you crumbled in the final few minutes

    • @kingkenzokwansa
      @kingkenzokwansa 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheLusianPopa first leg if my memory is still right Bendtner blocked a clear goal for Arsenal i'm not sure if it was the CL match or the premier league because we played Liverpool in both competitions inside the same week.
      Second leg Arsenal dominated especially with Walcott's introduction during the game and Diaby was immense that night in Anfield as he always did against the scousers but in the final 10 minutes of the game a Kolo Toure mistake led to a penalty for Liverpool and then we lost the momentum.

    • @TheLusianPopa
      @TheLusianPopa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kingkenzokwansa you night have dominated possession, but i dont remember you having more chances than liverpool
      i remember that game you never really felt arsenal will go through despite the quality of the passing and stuff
      you just kinda felt liverpool with their superior experience and the confidence/CL pedigree especially attacking the 2nd half at the kop might just take it to arsenal, and it did happen

    • @kingkenzokwansa
      @kingkenzokwansa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLusianPopa Not true! Arsenal not only dominated the possession but had the most clear cut chances.
      You know how Liverpool are at Anfield they always end up on top of their opponent regardless of the performance.
      And yes Liverpool is the english team with the most success rate in Champions League but wouldn't go as far as saying superior experience and confidence.
      Arsenal despite losing their most prized assets year after year were Champions League regulars even reaching a final and a couple of semi-finals and now imagine them keeping their best players and adding a few world class acquisitions they'd have been frightening and am sure would have won more silverware.

    • @derenh1052
      @derenh1052 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLusianPopa your recollection of the game is either biased or poor. Arsenal were the better team in both legs the difference was Arsenal didn’t get a stonewall penalty in the first leg on Hleb and Liverpool got a very dubious penalty at Anfield. Both the incidents swung the tie completely.
