      Didn't have enough suberheroes...
      On a serious note the movie wasn't amazing. The acting was good and it had a few great scenes but it was kind of all over the place in direction. She's right when she says it's half baked. For example the documentary cutaways feel like they belong in a different movie, whereas in a movie like American Animals they serve an actual purpose.

    So Grace, does this mean I’m going to love this film? Lol… seems like whatever you don’t like…I like…lmao. This was a really risky project to attempt and it’s extremely difficult to portray these iconic characters. My hat is off to Nicole Kidman to tackle this incredibly difficult role.

      The movie is deep and poignant and Kidman is great in the role. People tuning in to see "I Love Lucy" re-makes will be disappointed. Lucy was notoriously serious off-stage, and this film is a peek behind the scenes of two very complex and talented people.

    • @songbirdy
      @songbirdy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jchandlersabeast None of us knew Lucy behind the scenes. I have heard she was a very serious person. All business. So maybe Nicole did justice to the real Lucy while people were expecting her to be as she was before the camera, which she simply wasn't. She was smart and demanding and knew more than most what worked as far as creating her show. And she was a woman fighting her way in old Hollywood. She was a tough broad who didn't suffer fools. Not the zaney housewife up their on the screen. She was her own woman.

    Grace’s confidence in her own judgment is what makes her a great critic and a great personality to watch in her reviews. But boy oh boy, is she offbase in this review. The performances are phenomenal. The movie is phenomenal. But if you don’t climb aboard, if it doesn’t work for you, then you can see what a gem this is. Just something as simple as Nicole Kidman‘s posture and costumes through the film so that she progresses gradually to the stature of Lucille Ball‘s silhouette by the end. it’s a movie filled with small details and incredible confidence from the cast, particularly Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem.

I'm old enough to remember cigarette ads on TV. The fact that they were consulted about show content and could basically vote on things was kind of crazy. The allegation against Lucy I had never known. I can forgive them for not worrying how the show parts were done since they were just a vehicle to get to the meat of the story. Nicole was not great as she usually is. She missed the mark and it took me out of the story.
    I am certainly not expecting an obvious impersonation and Nicole definitely has the acting chops but this was terribly distracting for me. I put the blame entirely on the makeup designer. There should have been a more obvious difference in the character’s real life makeup and “show” makeup with the latter being much more dramatic.

    Grace, I’m usually on board with your well founded insights, but I respectfully have to disagree with you here. This film is a masterpiece.
    Each scene was exceptional- Nicole embodies the complexity and courage of Lucille Ball. Her undercurrent of immense heartache, one that money and stardom couldn’t fix. The juxtaposition of power she had within her complicated marriage and her show, along with the genius and tenacity of her talent.
    It was about the exploration of her character-full throttle- pulled together within a the simple slice of a week.

    It bothers me that they changed to the second apartment if they're trying to re-create that scene with Ethel and Fred and the coat. That's the same episode with Fred and Ethel sitting on the piano bench and they fall off. I know every inch of these episodes, and it looks so out of place to me. I saw the scene where she’s setting the table and Ricky comes home behind her and she pauses for a moment, I was trying to place what episode that was and I couldn't. Now I know why - it's that episode from the first season and it's not accurate at all! ! That REALY bothers me, I don't like when they change such an important detail like that. They probably did it because the second set is more recognizable, but if they're trying to be accurate, the fans know the difference and that's bad.

Especially in the lower picture at 5:07 you could think that she actually wears one, the appearance is so creepily artificial. It reached to a point where this is distracting from the movie character. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS FILM....you, my girl, are just a critical PERSON. It's NOT a movie about I Love Lucy the TV show, it's about the life of Lucy and Desi as they are developing and trying to make it a show that will be successful, a behind the scenes life on this process.

      did you even listen to her whole review? You just put up a dingaling comment based on what you thought she would say? The reviewer says exactly that the film is about their lives, not about the TV characters. And praises the main actors for conveying Ball and Arnaz well.

    I’ve watched several other reviews that pretty much gave the same opinion. I am not sure why people are so critical of the portrayals of the “I Love Lucy” characters. I agree that they were not great, but that was not the point of the movie. It was about Lucy and Desi, and what they were dealing with in real life. I do think that aspect of the movie was very good, and the cast did a nice job bringing realism to their characters. Full disclosure - I am a big Lucy fan and i found it enjoyable. Solid B rating.

    Just watched it, hoping to love the film but I didn't. Can't see how Kidman is supposed to have delivered a better performance this year than Olivia Colman or Jessica Chastain. Javier Bardem on the other hand was phenomenal, I really loved his performance.

    I hated the film. Nichole was lifeless, and really bitchy. Not funny at all. She was portraying an iconic comedian so some comedic humor needed to be there. Javier (love him) but NOT Dezi. I honestly couldn’t understand him a lot of the times. I understand Dezi perfectly. Also throughout the entire film everyone seemed to hate each other. And everyone seemed so miserable. Also the time jumps! I was so confused half the time! I had no idea when this and that sene took place. I just watched another documentary film on Lucille Ball called Lucy(2003) It was so much better and everyone casted fit perfectly.

    First Amazon suggested several Lucy films this weekend and fortunately I watched Finding Lucy first, then watching this film felt like it was missing an emotional heart to the story and focused so heavily on Mccarthism and The Cold War impact on Hollywood that overshadowed the comedic genius of these 2 on screen.
