@@Cooe. Samus Returns is literally a 3DS remake of the original game, Metroid II: Return of Samus, which came out in 1991 on the GameBoy. If you're going to sound like an elitist, try to know what you're talking about.

@@Cooe. redtrolly was talking about the ORIGINAL games in the context of the video, and then you brought up the remake of the second one. 2017 was a while ago, but considering the last one to advance the story forward, Metroid 4 (Fusion), came out in 2002 while the others came out in the 90s, they are all way older.

@@superstarultra The original comment about not knowing the 2D games are a different chronology has nothing to do with the ORIGINAL games being old. It was explicitly talking about the series as a whole. And the 2D series had a recent, effectively brand new mainline title as recently as 2017. The people that didn't know Metroid ≠ Metroid Prime wasn't because Metroid hadn't had a game in forever, because again, Samus Returns was a major release LITERALLY a few years ago. It was because they were uneducated fools.

@jjmk This is a shit take. You don't have to know everything to be fan. If you like it, you're a fan. Inexperience or lack of knowledge doesn't make you a fake fan. Some only played the prime series. Some maybe only played Samus returns or got on board after the Metroid prime 4 announcement then did some research/began playing other metroidvanias. If we want more Metroid games we have to direct newcomers to some of the other great games in the series so they make sales numbers larger. Not put them down for their lack of knowledge
@jjmk I mean, getting excited for others is a very valid reason to be excited. I get what you are saying but at the end of the day, even if you didn't know about Metroid's history, that was a damn good trailer and one that definitely portrayed why someone SHOULD care about these games
@jjmk They are. It took them long enough to start marketing some of their lesser known franchises as well as this. It also seems to be paying off with the amount of pre orders that seem to be occurring

Fusion was 19 years ago. Fusion came out _one day after Metroid Prime 1._ The entirety of Metroid Prime has taken place in between Metroid 4 and Metroid 5.
For a lot of people, Prime _is_ the mainline series. That's how long it's been.

Seeing so many people excited for something that means so much to them is always heartwarming. Watching this on my own, I had no idea that "Dread" was a known project from the distant past and just thought it was a cool name. My goodness, I've only played like 45 minutes of Super Metroid so it was completely lost on me the sheer impact and importance this had to the fans. Seeing it now is making me tear up. Good to see so many people get a win.

The game basically became like that of “Half-Life 3.” If you ever saw “Metroid Dread” on an E3 leak post, you immediately knew it was fake. It had basically been accepted by the fandom that this game would never see the light of day… until June 15th, 2021

You can immediately tell not a lot of people know about Fusion, or just the Mainline Metroid series in general, but goddamn those who do know and understand the importance of the number '5' and the word 'Dread' feel as if they just hit the lottery, which is exactly how I feel like. And I got into Metroid just 4 or 5 years ago but this is probably the most hyped I have been for a game announcement in my life. See you all next mission on October 8th!

In case there's any confusion, Fusion was Metroid 4, not Prime 4, meaning Dread is a direct sequel to Fusion.😉
You can see how long the main Series had gone without a Sequel... that there were a lot confused on the "Metroid 5" asking where "Metroid (Prime) 4" went.

This is late so probably pointless, but after seeing so many of these people confused about it being the fifth metroid game, I feel compelled to illustrate;
Metroid(Metroid 1)-> Metroid Prime 1-> Metroid Prime 2-> Metroid Prime 3-> (Probably Metroid Prime 4->) Metroid II: Return of Samus(Metroid 2)-> Super Metroid (Metroid 3)-> Metroid Fusion (Metroid 4)-> Metroid Dread (Metroid 5)
Addendum: Also that Zero Mission is a more cohesive retelling of Metroid and Samus Returns is a retelling of Metroid 2.

Dread is the best selling Metroid game yet; I hope new fans pick up the older titles (IF ONLY NINTENDO MADE A GOOD WAY FOR US TO PLAY THEM) and they release Prime Trilogy Remastered later this year to get people drawn into Metroid Prime 4.

I am a tad bit shocked that some people didn't know that Metroid 4 was Fusion; But at the same time, I am very glad that this game was able to attract a _lot_ of new fans who have never even touched a Metroid game in their lives. This game is so good that I actually had the patience to 100% it! And that's saying something, because I didn't have the patience to 100% my favorite game in the series (Super Metroid)!
