Did anyone else notice Simon (our Simon) holding his head during the ice sled ride like he still unconsciously believes he’s wearing his crown?? It was such a nice touch!!
I think the most chilling part about Winter King (no pun intended) is that he’s not a Simon in control of the crown, but the Crown in control of a Simon. With the madness gone, he’s not Simon in control - he’s just Ice King but if he weren’t insane. Hints of Simon shine through, like some of the memories and ice figures, but his complete disregard for Betty shows he’s not really Simon - just a sane(er) Ice King pretending to be him.
@@ForceInEvHorizon I don't think he seems like Simon, Winter king's humour is certainly not similar, he is pretty social (unlike Simon who is pretty awkward), doesn't seem much of a nerd, and is overtly confident unlike Simon who stresses and fumbles a lot, he also lacks remorse or regrets for transferring his insanity unto PB, something og Simon would never even think about doing I'd say saying he is like Ice King but without the madness is pretty accurate, he certainly has a similar "cool guy" humour (but he is actually able to pull it off unlike IK) and that same lack of empathy or remorse
I think it’s entirely possible that more of the differences in personality are a result of him changing over so much time. I mean, it was 100 years, and he already made a very drastic and selfish choice back then that was completely unlike our Simon. What things has he done _since_ then? How long has he been justifying his decisions to himself to stay happy? Obviously, the crown itself is affecting him, but I think a lot more of it is Simon than you’d want to think.
PB: acts not out of good intentions, but out of the good consequences of his actions, creates a prosperous kingdom, moves science, often helps the main characters, pushes Finn away from herself (because he will grow old and die, and she will live for a very long time) People: noooo, she's bad, pure evil
@@grantmclellan2236if you’ve ever seen a guy saying Sonic either is a god or could kill god and how he doesn’t care if there’s a difference, that’s Brian David Gilbert
@@grantmclellan2236 here's his channel! He makes some good stuff www.youtube.com/@briandavidgilbert he also used to be a part of Polygon and did a comedy series called unraveled while he was there (which is what the other comments are referring to, lol)
I think in this universe, he wasn't able to protect Marcy, which is why there is an Ice Marcy. Despite knowing making an Ice Betty is unethical, he still made an ice Marcy and he also passed his madness curse onto Bubblegum, actively hiding the fact he did so. Winter King is a man, who after losing those close to him, became detached and more concerned about himself, caring for randoms as long as it is convenient for him. That is what Simon could become with the right circumstances.
Well. Interesting thing is, he still seems Manic, albeit on top of it. And as we seen with Patience Saint Pim. Being detached and umbivelent IS at heart of element of Ice. I wish we seen how it came to him coming up with/casting a spell that transferred madness on to PB.
He probably froze "real" Marcy when he transferred his madness to PB and then created the ice one in the child form, real Marcy would never let him do something like that to PB
What I love about this song, is that it perfectly fits the concept of ice king being metaphor for a drug addict. Simon, while being under the crown's power, was unstable and chaotic. He didn't know who he was, he didn't remember what real life is like. He lived in his own delusions. Simon however, perfectly show what it's like when you get away from the influence. People think you were more "fun" when you were addicted, and you start think about getting back, because while dozed, you can't remember your pain. "Winter king" is, however, an ultimate fantasy of a drug user. It's a user who got it under control, and uses drugs to create something nice. It happens especially when young people look at artists, especially musicians, and think "drugs help those people do something beautiful!" For example, the Beatles. But in reality, those kinds of addicts are just as broken inside. They just happened to turn their addiction into creativity they didn't have without it. It's a really nice way of portraying it. And it's universal, it's how it works with every addiction. Alcoholism, narcotics, even workaholism! Fantastic way of putting several kinds of possible interpretation into one character. Bravo for writers, and animators of this scene, because it's Amazing!
Really good insight. Did think of that when Fiona & Cake said Simon was happy as the Ice King. Thinking “Wow, just like telling a recovering addict that they where better when they where an addict”. You written it down very nicely.
drugs have never given people "creativity", they have a mental block that prevents their natural creativity until they use drugs after becoming addicted. john Coltraine said he did his worst work while on heroin.
Yeah, but it’s more of the madness and sadness factor, for in order for one to be a true wizard in the land of ooo you must accept that this world is not real and is just a dream, candy queen madness is able to use her candy elemental powers due to her having ice kings madness and being able to easily use her powers, in like our bubble gum who had to think of the chemicals that make up candy in order to fight
@@be6386although it seems that the elementals have the potential to be powerful without succumbing into the madness cause their nature is connected to the universe and their elements, they are just a manifestation of part of the universe, reason why they can do magic, science and create life.
@@omarsanchez8956 Honestly it seems to depend, like Patience had full control of her ice magic and didn't resort to outright insanity but she was also still somewhat cuckoo, while other magic users like Ice King and even the other elementals needed to go full on insane to fully tap into their powers
@@omarsanchez8956 My guess would be, as time goes on, the elementals made from their elements like Bonnie and Evergreen have the innate ability to stay sane, while having access to their powers, though insanity will boost them. While elementals like Patience, a human with the elemental dna, requires insanity in some form to start up or access their abilities.
Winter King makes me so uncomfy. Cause while he got rid of the crown's madness... he's still as broken as Simon. He just has his magic to avoid his problems. What he did in this episode and what you see in the background... tells such a dark story of this Simon losing his humanity and hurting the people he cares about on purpose. Our Simon and Ice King never meant any harm... but this one crossed the line.
Yeah, also I have a feeling Winter Kings Marcy died in the mushroom war while she was young. It explains why there was a child Ice Marcy and why he suggested our Simon make an "Ice Betty" he's clearly messed in the noggin from something traumatic. Doesn't excuse what he did to PB for a hundred years tho D:
@@goopiiegoofyI think we can all agree something tragic happened to Marceline considering he made a child-like ice version of her. I don't think she died during the mushroom war because we see Ice Marcy with her axe bass and it was only created from Marceline's old battle axe. I think Marceline confronted Winter King after she found out he caused PB to go insane. She either died or ran off to find a cure for PB, so to fill that void, Winter King created a version of Marceline that still loved and need his protection.
@@Slyest4255it was in the damn song too, unlike Our IK, This one was hella Angry, rageful self loathing, mostly at himself for failing the people around him.
I always thought Simon was the most interesting thing in Adventure time, so having a whole show pretty much around him and all the ideas and thoughts around him is just.... ah it's the icing on the cake.
the way the winter king just downplays simons struggles by saying how easy it was for him to overcome to crown drives me bonkers!!! and bro never even actually overcame it he just transferred the curse onto someone else and made it pb's problem
The most fearsome thing about the Winter King is that he understood very well that the crown is an artifact that channels magic through technology and he reverse-engineered it to create technology that channels magic, the apparatus in his laboratory is pure ice but it works as technology against any sense of logic, he can literally bring to life any twisted invention he wishes, be it technological, magical or even.......sentient, and it's because of this perception that he can create anything that he doesn't fix anything, for him something broken must be replaced and never repaired.
I think it adds to this that he maybe has the magic of wish that the crown naturally has, you can see how he grants wishes to Cake and Fionna with this kinda ice glitter he made
Even knowing the twist, 1:08 gets me every time. The way there isn't really any weight given to the crown, it just feels like a normal object. It feels like Simon's finally free from the curse that he's spent hundreds of years dealing with. I really wish there could be a universe where Simon could be happy with the crown, but you can't have magic without madness and sadness. Trying to have your cake and eat it too? Well, we know where that got the Winter King.
I feel this all too well. I truely wish he could be happy, have a sense of freedom and feather weight. But as you have said, there can be no method without madness, and you can’t always have what you wish for. It also makes you realise when people are hiding things. People who tend to know tricks that simple but delightful, like things you just perfect out of habit, tend to hide things. Knowing he can move his crown with such precision means he sits there perfecting it. He’s waited for the day these things would happen, having the perfect set up and the knowing of what going to happen. He seems to calm from the beginning to not be hiding something, and the curse and who he is is just the perfect plot twist. People who are that perfect are always hiding something, not always bad, but it’s something. I also just noticed when he looks into the crown, he makes a fond face as if he’s done this before. Meaning he had stared at himself through the crown, either wondering who he is, or what he is.
I just read this back btw and I want to apologise for whatever the fuck I was yapping on about at like 2 in the morning. Also ur underrated as fuck dude, love ur channel
This song is wonderful, but honestly with him not saying how he conquered the crown, him calling Betty "the dead one", and some of his actions it just made me think that he was actually still crazy, and he was hiding something.
I think that can be explained by the fact that he's been isolated by 100+ years as he says in his song, he hasn't had any other contact outside his own creations and crazy PB so after all that time he just lost all of his humanity and empathy, that's why he reffers to Betty as "the dead one", he just doesn't really care about anything anymore besides himself and his creations
I love how no matter what Simon really never smiles. He’s never comfortable, genially upset, and is still sad about his life. He doesn’t see the crown as the main issue of his life and he knows that the main issue (being Betty) cannot be fixed. In fact as it stands he sees it as a solution, a way to end this and solve a problem for someone else. Cause that’s what he’s always revert to. Helping others so he avoid his own problems. You know kind of like Steven Universe if he lost Conny and wasn’t the protagonist
With Betty gone and Marceline not needing him anymore he is left with finding a new purpose in life. Which is very hard, considering that almost everyone he was ever close to left.
He's deranged in a different way. His apathetic detachment and "whimsy" in spite of what he did shows this ice king is less erratic but perhaps more genuinely evil.
At least with our simon, everything bad he did as Ice King was due to his insanity. This guy knowingly ruined the Candy Kingdom, and kept projecting his madness onto Princess Bubblegum for 100 years.
Yeah. Normal Ice King, I mean dude was nuts but you kinda get the sense that all of his actions were either very poor coping mechanisms, or just an inability to control himself, bit like how people with Alzheimer's can't stop the fact that they slowly stop being able to take care of themselves. Winter King... I mean you can't tell me that this guy DOESN'T think before he acts. He literally has the same vibe as a psychopathic ceo.
There was something I noticed upon many rewatched of this scene but the emphasis on laughter is so chilling to me! With farm world Finn for example his past manifested as insane laughter. Here with the Winter king his laugh is much sweeter obviously but it IS right after he let Simon take the fall for him by dodging the snowball. It feels like a subtle clue to how this worlds Simon selfishly let PB take the fall with madness while he has all the fun, alluding to the fact that his own bit of madness is still very much at work~ It’s all in the laugh!!
I don't see how that hints that he's still insane. Ordinary Simon was ready to die just not to become insane again, so it's just his usual behavior without insanity
The animation is made in such high-quality production, the smoothness, colors, details in the background are so well designed, it sorta represents the over-idealistic reality where Simon control his magic and remain somewhat ‘sane’. Back in the original show, when this type of animation was presented usually came from someone’s over saturated point of view, or a mystical interspace of reality, so I think it well-presented how WK over saturated his sanity without realizing the real craziness still remains inside him.
interestingly at 1:07, when the winter king talks about how easy it is to 'manifest your own reality', there's the shape of glasses in the ice if you look closely...either simon's, or....betty's
Wonderful. I've always been intrigued by Simon's character, so this whole show has been a treat. And now we get the gentlemanly well of intrigue that is The Winter King. Ice as a word is... vague. A sensation, barely a term in how it encapsulates all cold. Winter, however, is focused! Conceptually, the winter carries Christmas, a seasonal breeze of gratitude, awe and cozyness. The Winter King retains Ice's hysteria and eccentricities, but with sprinkles of Simon's intellect and style. His wonderland is one of careful creation, an artisan's rendition of a snowy paradise. What's more fitting for a saner Ice King, than an european fairytale? (Even got some Kerascoët vibes from those ice servants of his). And, like all fairytales, there's a grimm facet to it all. Turns out, this guy might be worse than our Simon ever was. While the Ice King stole PB for a weekend at most, this icy sociopath kept a whole kingdom hostage for a century. Not only that, but he also became very talented at blocking anything that might resemble grief or introspection. That Ice Marceline screams full-on denial to me. In conclusion, I loved this charming sociopath. The developers of this show saw an opportunity to create a conceptually tighter Ice King, and took it to the max (even if it's just, technically, a mirrored PB). It also helped to demonstrate that Simon can't take any other route, he must go insane head-on... or so it seems, right now. Thanks to anyone who read these paragraphs of barely assembled ramblings, much appreciated!
I meant the Candy Kingdom. He did so by proyecting the crown's madness onto Princess Bubblegum, which shows this Simon's capacity for cruelty and shadiness. Of course, our Simon could proyect his insanity onto Gunther or something, but we'll just have to see how the rest of the show pans out
BDG absolutely kills it during this episode, not only does his singing experience kick in but the sheer experience of this winter king as something slightly eerie and unnatural is totally relayed by his tone and mannerisms alone. With that said though, the visuals are gorgeous and compliment his vocals fully. Couldnt ask for better!
@@levin2743 Well, he was still ice king when he cast the spell. You won’t get logical thought from ice king. He probably just cast it on the one person he knew he had available and could actually hold a train of thought about, which was PB. From there, Winter King likely knew if he ever uncast the madness spell to change targets, PB would try to stop him. So he chose to keep her mad, forever.
@@It-Will-All-Be-Okay-I-PromiseIt seems to me that fter getting rid of the madness he literally created a bubble for himself and avoided looking at all the problems around him. I think after "solving" the madness he just never thought about it ever again.
I AM SO PROUD, I WANNA CRY, THIS ANIMATION IS GORGEOUS AND ADVENTURE TIME HAS LONG DESERVED THE RESOURCES TO BRING ITS CHARACTERS TO LIFE IN SUCH A MAGICAL WAY 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Everyone's talking about their analysis of the song/characters or how amazing the song is in general. But while watching this my mind immidiately went "Oh. Yeah, I can already sense the simps and shippers this will generate." 😭
I feel like if simon becomes the ice king again, he'll have to take a page from the winter king's book and will control his abilities by force of will and syphoning the madness onto someone else. Maybe the snail that helped the lich get out of his amber prison
Alot of people are saying that they think this is just a "sane Ice-king" But I got stuck looking at how it's like a backwards parael between the original relationship of Ice King and PB. I thought that what the curse seemed to more so do was switch their personalities- as we see this Simon acts a LOT like a flanderdized season 1/2 PB. 1. A genius in a "perfect kingdom" 2. No love for the past or failed relationships/friendships 3. Hides experiments that might be deemed as "unethical" by others 4. An absolute genius- with an amazing laboratory to match- Performing science that rivals or is better than the straight up magic of the realm. (except this time he can combine the science WITH the magic) and of course Candy Queen is legit just a crazy season 1 ice King- With no motive other than to capture a Prince(ss) to help feel complete and fill the void in their heart because they KNOW deep down that something is INCREDIBLY wrong with them Except it seems that after 100 years Bonnie is somewhat able to control the madness- at least knowing in some way that Winter King is the cause of her craze, and knowing that by harming him or perhaps combining with him- she can stop the madness- hence the blender bit lmaoo
I had a winter/ snow queen themed sweet 16 acouple of years ago and this episode really brought all those memories back to me. One of my favorite episodes so far.
I like how the Winter King talks about telling Simon how he conquered the crown, but then immediately distracting him with fun winter activities. He doesn’t want to admit that he never actually conquered the crown, just moved the curse to someone else.
That's all Winter King Simon does. Running from the actual problem at hand. Notice that he has an entire Kingdom without a single citizen. Simon literally lives in a bubble he made for himself.

Considering how the Winter King was able to give Cake a phone with mulitversal reception, I’m starting to believe that this Simon was able to uncover the inner workings of the crown to the point where he can grant wishes to others as well, making the crown less of an ice crown, but more of a Wish Crown like it was originally intended. Add to the fact that he can reverse-engineer the crown itself really goes to show how much powerful a semi-sane Simon/Winter King could be…
I knew something was off with this guy the second he came on screen. When he couldnt explain how he actually got rid of the madness in detail, I knew some morbid explanation was due
The song and animation in this sequence is absolutely incredible!! I honestly freaked out when I was watching this it’s just so amazing Also OH MY GOD BRIAN DAVID GILBERT? knowing it’s him just made me love the Winter King even more! he did absolutely amazing in this role!! Congrats!!
You know, this makes me wonder how Winter King (as Ice King) managed to pull this off. I mean think of it - Ice King would have had to come to the realization that the crown was the primary source of his misery, and then learn the spell necessary to shunt the madness of the crown off onto a victim. Ice King would have, at some point, actively planned and plotted to free himself of the crown's madness, without losing his powers. This sounds like something the Ice King would do if he could maintain the clarity necessary to pull it off. Something must have happened to this Ice King, that gave him that moment of clarity, that moment of understanding, and put him in a position to actually plan for it. It maybe possible Winter King wasn't lying when he said he managed to conquer the crown through sheer willpower, even if that isn't the whole truth. There is a backstory here that I REALLY want to see.
I love how he's still insane. He's given up his humanity completely. You know because Marcy isn't there. Marcy has been the life line for Simon because she remembered him even in his madness
I like how this song forshadows Winter King being evil in the sense he never truly explains how he conquered the crowns madness like he was just avoiding the question. He said it was only through sheer force of will, but he never went into full detail and since Simon points out resiting the crown is so difficult, that's how I knew from my first watch of the episode that there must have been more that he wasn't telling. It's a pretty good song too though, I admit. Also did anyone else notice how Winter King had the same symbol as Patience St. Pim, the ice elemental, I also consider this foreshadowing that he was up to something
Besides, where is everyone else? There is nobody outside the Winter Kingdom except for a cursed Bubblegum. Winter King Simon is just as lonely as regular Simon, he's only far better at giving himself the illusion that he's not.
I like to listen to songs like this around Christmas Time. It fills the heart and brings a warm feeling of joy, brings back the magic that most people's Christmas is so desperately lacking.
I can't with how beautiful this animation was, PLUS Brian's beautiful voice?! This was so magical to behold, I literally had to pause and scream after I first finished watching it 🤩❤
people are saying how this isn't a Simon that "conquered" the crown but the crown has fully taken control which really makes the line "and I conquered the crown Nye a hundred years ago by now" that means Simons been gone a very long time.
This song is really good, but from the first time I heard it it I had a thought/feeling that I couldn’t explain. I’m just now realizing that what I felt was that the song also represented his twisted mental state. His state, although clear, was a thin veil covering the fact that he was still mad but a different form of madness I think
Two main differences in this timeline I noticed besides the whole swapping roles thing was that this simon sounds like he never proposed to his betty and that marcalien was kept a kid and turned into ice like we saw with the elementals- I wonder if this is the same timeline we saw in bettys trial when she changed her ticket to a day before so simon would have never caught up to her with the book and the note? The winter kings vibes where off and everything felt to good to be true. The sad thing though is that this worlds marcalien is dead now- along with like hundreds of candy and ice citizens- and poor bubble gum is going to have to deal with the scarab now without any of her tech or the citizens to help her out-
Ah yeyeye thats true for both- i was thinking it might have been marcalien somehow sense how crazy both the candy and winter kingdom’s where reminded me of the elementals but if it was marcalien it would be a bit confusing sense why would she still be a kid then if it was only a hundred years ago and not thousands of years ago when she was still a kid
Winter King has jokingly mentioned replicating people out of ice, it wouldn't surprise me if the real Marcy left him after seeing what he did to bubblegum and he just made a new one. He doesn't seem like the type that wants to fix things.
@@Socks941 I think the thing is that Winter King was definitely still cursed even if he was seemingly cured, he still had the flamboyancy and extremes of OG Ice King while being functional enough to realize how messed up his actions were and why he took so much effort to hide it with the main cast, letalone hiding or maybe outright dismissing his care for Betty and Marceline. If OG Simon had been in the same situation he totally would've done the same imho, the crown is still cursed albeit the madness was projected to everyone else instead by I'm sure plenty of other things kept Winter King from being as morally righteous as OG Simon, and even then we've seen OG Simon do some pretty awful things just from using Choose Goose as a magic battery alone for example. One could say "well Choose Goose is evil" but it's still pretty messed up.

I have been having struggles just now about what i should be doing in the near future. I love arts and animation, but a lot of things are going on right now in my mind and at home. This clip popped out in my recommendations in the most perfect time possible. I instantly got reminded of what i want and what I need to do. Thanks for the upload. This animation scene is just beautiful.
I now want a Adventure Time rebootish spin off kinda thing where Ice King truly is in control of his insanity and actions but at the price of truly losing his memories, but he becomes a truly nice guy and we see a more eviler dictatoresque version of Bubblegum (since Bubblegum has the tendency to be extremely bossy and controlling towards those she doesn't like -- Flame Princess, Ice King, and on occassion, Marceline, etc).
I haven’t seen the show properly, but there’s something so unsettling to me the way the Winter King just grabs Simon and pulls him around. This along with the section showing Simon’s trauma and lingering on his time as Ice King, he gives this vibe that he doesn’t really care about Simon’s feelings.
I like how the animation is in and of itself a hint that there is something . . . off with the Winter Kings story. It is soft and pastel, but it isn't real.
I know that contextually there's more going on here, but. In the moment, its kind of nice to think that even with the Winter King being sort of self obsessed about himself in this, he's still sort of in his own way trying to bolster Simon's confidence in his own abilities--not so much being the 'Ice King He Can't Be', but the 'Ice King He COULD be', with that little bow at the end. Just a little vision of what control and power and even, to a smaller degree, support would look like.
imagine meeting alternate reality you and hes taller than you and sexier than you and is the president and got over your ex. how is simon still breathing man id have a heart attack by that point
I felt uneasy this whole episode. The idea that one could just "get over" the crown made no sense. Beyond that, the fact that there is NO other living things there, and well... ice Marcy.
The moment I heard Brian, David Gilbert‘s voice I fucking lost my shit, like I was just happy to hear his voice, but then I started realize how good of a job he was doing, and it was freaking insane
Craziest part is if fionna didn't take the crown and accidentally revert it to a non-magical state then bubblegum would just be stuck as candy queen and crazy for probably the rest of time
If it wasn't for the twist perhaps this would have been a better path for Simon, Ice King was his suffering, pain, and regret shown to the world, in time he mellowed out but wasn't Simon, now that we got Simon I assumed he was living carefree, no crown to drive him mad, no Betty but has came to accept that, and had his adoptive daughter Marciline. But no he is sad Betty is gone, living way out of his time, and just can't seem to understand Ooo or any of the people there. Everyone always says he was better as Ice King, not as first but he was a friend around the end after he stop kidnapping Princesses, they only say his fan fiction was good and only see that good part about him. Hope we have Simon.
I really do hope this show and this world keeps on being able to have stories after this series ends. The writers, the animators, and just everyone in general who worked on this show really do need props for not only keeping the spirit of the show but also evolving it for more mature audiences that grew up with the show since 2010. For me I can still remember seeing the promos about a live action kid who would say "what time is it?" to anyone and everyone, and now being in my last year of college seeing this show still be talked about in loved is something that really does bring me joy😊
Why do I get the feeling we’re going to be seeing tons of fanfiction featuring Winter King but without that tiny little detail that he projected the madness of the crown onto Princess Bubblegum?

I think it’s entirely possible that more of the differences in personality are a result of him changing over so much time.
I mean, it was 100 years, and he already made a very drastic and selfish choice back then that was completely unlike our Simon. What things has he done _since_ then? How long has he been justifying his decisions to himself to stay happy?
Obviously, the crown itself is affecting him, but I think a lot more of it is Simon than you’d want to think.

Oh I thought he turned Marcy into an ice person

@@IGeorge94 Exactly! Such a fantastic metaphor. Part of the reason why Simon is my favourite in the new series.
Wow this really puts things into perspective!
I always thought Ice King was a metaphor for Dementia, but this take works so much better
drugs have never given people "creativity", they have a mental block that prevents their natural creativity until they use drugs after becoming addicted. john Coltraine said he did his worst work while on heroin.
So in this episode we saw more of the potential of the elementals of ice and candy.

I think it adds to this that he maybe has the magic of wish that the crown naturally has, you can see how he grants wishes to Cake and Fionna with this kinda ice glitter he made
did he have a chance to fix something ?

I also like how this universe is like a perfect role swapped scenario, because like with our PB, Winter King has skeletons in his closet.
I like how the song is similar to Imagination from Charlie and the chocolate factory
Essentially he is still Ice King, just pretending to be Simon
I think that since he have lived so long, it has made him numb and cold

I love how no matter what Simon really never smiles. He’s never comfortable, genially upset, and is still sad about his life. He doesn’t see the crown as the main issue of his life and he knows that the main issue (being Betty) cannot be fixed. In fact as it stands he sees it as a solution, a way to end this and solve a problem for someone else. Cause that’s what he’s always revert to. Helping others so he avoid his own problems. You know kind of like Steven Universe if he lost Conny and wasn’t the protagonist
Funnily enough the only time he smiles is during PBs song
@@StarlitKingBecause it reminds him of marceline and how happy she is with her.

It must've been something traumatic to him. He's probably the type who won't listen to his own advice
He didnt believe in the unethical part, he hoped simon would have agreed and when he didnt he acted as if it was ajoke.
It feels like a subtle clue to how this worlds Simon selfishly let PB take the fall with madness while he has all the fun, alluding to the fact that his own bit of madness is still very much at work~
It’s all in the laugh!!
I don't see how that hints that he's still insane. Ordinary Simon was ready to die just not to become insane again, so it's just his usual behavior without insanity
Looking at that laugh from your interpretation, yeah it was actually chilling!

Contraire, thank thee for writing this!
Wait which kingdoms did he keep hostage? His ice is Kingdome or the candy Kingdome?
where was he holding the kingdom hostage ?
This demonstrated that he could go the other way. Nothing prevents putting a curse on Gunther.
I meant the Candy Kingdom. He did so by proyecting the crown's madness onto Princess Bubblegum, which shows this Simon's capacity for cruelty and shadiness. Of course, our Simon could proyect his insanity onto Gunther or something, but we'll just have to see how the rest of the show pans out
@@diegog.8635 oh ok yeah I was thinking he could project it to Gunter in another universe

1. A genius in a "perfect kingdom"
2. No love for the past or failed relationships/friendships
3. Hides experiments that might be deemed as "unethical" by others
4. An absolute genius- with an amazing laboratory to match- Performing science that rivals or is better than the straight up magic of the realm. (except this time he can combine the science WITH the magic)
and of course Candy Queen is legit just a crazy season 1 ice King- With no motive other than to capture a Prince(ss) to help feel complete and fill the void in their heart because they KNOW deep down that something is INCREDIBLY wrong with them
Except it seems that after 100 years Bonnie is somewhat able to control the madness- at least knowing in some way that Winter King is the cause of her craze, and knowing that by harming him or perhaps combining with him- she can stop the madness- hence the blender bit lmaoo

Add to the fact that he can reverse-engineer the crown itself really goes to show how much powerful a semi-sane Simon/Winter King could be…
He was able to charge it and give them connection!
I knew something was off with this guy the second he came on screen. When he couldnt explain how he actually got rid of the madness in detail, I knew some morbid explanation was due

They really made him too good and too perfect to be true. "This is going way too smoothly.... that's not good"
It’s even more suprising when you consider this is a villain song
How did I never notice that
You know, this makes me wonder how Winter King (as Ice King) managed to pull this off.
I can’t explain it, but this scene brings such nostalgic Christmas vibes. I love it!

This series has exceeded all of my expectations and I can't wait to see how far we dive into the worlds!!!
The sad thing though is that this worlds marcalien is dead now- along with like hundreds of candy and ice citizens- and poor bubble gum is going to have to deal with the scarab now without any of her tech or the citizens to help her out-
Yes, but he isn't really after her. She would only be in truble if she got in his way.
What I'd do for an entire show with this musical numbers art and animation style.
I know it's fucked up, but it's so sad to me that this Simon only experienced happiness by [spoilers]
ikr, i know simon is ok with saying hes "gonked up" but if simon knew he could do that i dont doubt he that he wouldve
I was suspicious but I didn't think it would get that dark
The realization of what happened hit me like a sack of potatoes that were left in the rain for 4 days
Why didn’t he just transfer the madness to some random animal
I love how this was basically the reverse world. Cuz people often forget how messed up PB was
I already miss him 😔
Me too
Lyrics
I was once, just like you.
Didn't know what to do,
Had all those bad feelings and schemes.
My poor heart, in a chill - 'til through sheer force of will.
I was able to fashion my dreams,
And, build, this, winter wonderworld!
Full of pine scented trees, and a fine menagerie!
We can skate on the ice in a frozen winter paradise,
Under icicles that gleam and a snowball fight for you and for me!
(Simon) But how did you do it? It's so hard to resist the crown's power and do something really wonderful.
(Winter King) Hard? Hah! Come now, making something wonderful is as easy, as manifesting your own reality.
And I conquered the crown, nigh a, hundred years ago by now.
Despite the impossibility.
And perhaps, yes, perhaps, I can show you how,
But for now,
Let us go to and fro, on a sleigh ride in the snow!
Making fond rosy cheeked memories!
See the soft snowflakes swirl, in my winter wonderworld,
In my winter, wonderworld!
1:42 I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT BACKGROUND ART !!!!!!!!
The fact his voice reverted back to Simon's when he started losing his powers--
I wish I had friends who liked this show, I have no one to appreciate it with (especially this song!)
Oh just wait until you see why he's sane
This is my new go-to for Christmas songs
Same, I'm like
"NOT TODAY MARIAH CAREY AND STORES"
for a winter king he's pretty hot
Love how formal yet unhinged this guy is at times
I like how the animation is in and of itself a hint that there is something . . . off with the Winter Kings story. It is soft and pastel, but it isn't real.
It’s kinda sad to practically see Simon saying “wow I’m pathetic” throughout this whole song with his how he acts towards winter king.
I think he is jealous, that’s probably why he wanted to give candy queen a chance
This is the best episode so far, winter king is definitely one of my favorite all time characters. I just love his song and the winter vibes so much
THE ANIMATORS HAD BILLS TO PAY GOD DAMN
I know that contextually there's more going on here, but. In the moment, its kind of nice to think that even with the Winter King being sort of self obsessed about himself in this, he's still sort of in his own way trying to bolster Simon's confidence in his own abilities--not so much being the 'Ice King He Can't Be', but the 'Ice King He COULD be', with that little bow at the end. Just a little vision of what control and power and even, to a smaller degree, support would look like.
anyone get will wood vibes from this song? it doesnt sound like him, but it feels like a song he'd sing you know?
Ur right 😱
real
My favorite part is that they even made the Winter King LOOK like Brian David Gilbert.
To be fair bdg just already looks like simon lol
Simon In The Ice Factory
(CHARLIE IN the chocolate factory joke here)
Ikr
Winter king sings "A snowball fight for you and for me" while avoiding a snowball meant for him, making it hit simon instead.
Woah you're right
Deep
Oh my gosh, the ANIMATION! I would love to see a show animated entirely like this!
they really told the animators "ice king but he's a tumblr sexyman"
imagine meeting alternate reality you and hes taller than you and sexier than you and is the president and got over your ex. how is simon still breathing man id have a heart attack by that point
to be fair he cheated
Cake: KISS EACH OTHER!
Craziest part is if fionna didn't take the crown and accidentally revert it to a non-magical state then bubblegum would just be stuck as candy queen and crazy for probably the rest of time
At the end i thought Simon had some concerningly bulging knees but it was just his feet's reflection lmao,
Also oo such nice animation style i want
The animation is absolutely nuts
This gives me over the garden wall vibes
fr samee
True
Holy shit it does.
This is one of my favorite scenes in the series.
the sad part is. this world's fin and jake and probably marceline got killed by insane pb years ago we knew what she can do when she introduced a blender
