I've travelled the Nullarbor a couple of times, and you need nerves of steel to pass one of these road trains. National speed limit is 110 km/ph These trucks are governed to only do 100 km/ph. It's not a necessity to pass them, but you don't want to be stuck behind them for 100s of kms either. Once you decide to pass, there's no turning back, You've got to keep going, and if you see something coming the other way, you gotta floor it and hope you get past before it gets to you. The road is long and flat so it's pretty easy to get pest them, as long as your car isn't a pissy little pox box!😅
Semi's and Bdouble are speed limited to 100 kph. Roadtrains are limited to 90 kph, even shorter versions that display long vehicle signs only, on designated routes. These trucks do not travel on the Nullabor Plains. These are up in the North West of Western Australia to cart Iron ore to Port Hedland for shipping. There are so many mines open now and only a couple of mine specific railway lines. There are fleets of these Quads for many different Iron ore mine. The Nullabor is mostly a long straight boring road, you can see for miles. You just need to make sure you have a clear line of sight for 2 to 3 km because that is how long you are going to be out there on the wrong side of the road. It is not unusa for Roadtrains to overtake one another safely. Loaded ones are much slower, so the ones that are not loaded can get around easily.
