- On Saturday''s video, I made pin jaws for the 6" milling machine vise. I had 10 sets ready to go and sold out in under 2 hours. I sold an additional 40 sets before shutting down the site.
Thank you everyone for your support and purchases. I never imagined they would sell like that. More material is coming, and I will get orders out as fast as I can.
Thank you all again.

Glad to see the products selling well. You look very happy and less stressed in this video, that is good to see.
Having work and income definitely helps with that.
I hope this really takes off for you Josh . You're a good thinker , and always borrow as many ideas and suggestions as you can . There's many folks out there to tap into for help in the idea department . Every genius of the past knew the value of multiple minds for resources . We truly do need each other , and everyone can bring something to the table over time , even apprentices . Stay humble , work hard , and always remain thankful . I believe it was your subscribers that nudged you in this direction , and are responding accordingly . Our hats are off to you . 🙂
Thank you,and you hit some great points. I always tell the younger generations that when someone older is talking, shut up and listen. Even if you don't need their info now, it may come in handy someday. Even if it is bad info.
@@TopperMachineLLC Great advice.
I absolutely love watching folks making products and having the problem of selling out. Keep killing it y'all!
Love seeing your proudly 🇺🇸 Made in America 🇺🇸 products selling so well by an American bad ass machinest!
Congratulations..!! Your enthusiasm is amazing. Keep living the American dream, sir. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Greg from northern Michigan. Good product, American made by a top drawer manual machinist, and as we say up north, 'U Da Man' Well done !
Heck yeah! Love to see you doing well despite everything else. Thank you so, so much for all the videos.
Thanks for the update and congrats on hitting on a very useful product to make and sell. I've been a viewer for several years now and have always had the thought in the back of my mind of "Hey, this guy is talented and inventive, why doesn't he come up with something he can make and sell instead of being depressed when no customers are bringing work in the door". You have done it and it looks like you have hit it out of the park. Good on you, as Kurtis at Cutting Edge would say, and get busy and think of the next product that can make machining better and easier.
Glad to hear you sold those jaws so fast and you've got more material on the way. I sure hope this takes off for you. You work hard and do good work. You deserve all the best from your efforts!! Good luck!
I'm getting a well made useful product at a reasonable cost. And I am glad to help you out since you provide videos that we enjoy so much!
Thanks! I appreciate the support.
Bob on Josh, that's the way to do it buddy, keep up the good work 🎉
Great to see a success story, your customs
will wait for a quality product 🎉
Happy to see these taking off for you Josh! 👍👍
Congratulations on the sales and the new products. Praying it continues to grow for you
I am very pleased the jaws are selling so well, great job
Glad to hear that the vice jaws are selling great!
Hang in there 💪
Thanks!
That´s awesome - happy for you☝
Great design Josh . Make hay while you can before they get copied . If the US to AU dollar value was not so far apart , i would order a set in a heartbeat ! Your honey looks great too , would order a jar but there is a fair chance it would not get through Western Australian customs & border security without a heat sterilisation certificate . We have a large honey business here & they have to protect it from any chance of bacteria . All the best , Cheers 👍
I am glad that your supporters backed you up by ordering things on your site. I would love to buy something but my S.S. check is not very big. Maybe you and your friend can come up with other things to make and sell. I watched a guy in Australia who does work on large equipment. He is so much like you but with a accent. Thanks for your video. It is always good to see you. 😀😀😀😀
Congratulations Josh.
Certainly glad things are looking up for you.
Have a great day. 👍🇺🇸👍
Josh, that is FANTASTIC! Glad to hear they were a success.
That's fantastic. Very happy for you. Gilles
Glad to hear the demand is so strong! Can’t wait to try mine when they arrive. Good things are worth waiting for!
Thanks for the support!
Thrilled for you. Keep innovating.
I am trying, but it is not easy!
I'm glad you are selling everything out.
Well done Josh.❤❤
Very happy to hear your creating your own success!
Great job at innovation and providing a product that people need and want. That is what american entrepreneurial spirit and action made this country great. Keep up the great work and videos! God Bless!
I am happy to see your business improving even though it may be a little in a new direction.
Hang in there buddy it will all work out alright, pulling for you
Great news. Pleased for you the jaws are selling well.
pleased its taking off for you Josh. great stuff
So glad you're selling so many. Great thing for your business.
That is really great news that your store is doing so well. As others have commented and I noticed also, that you look a lot happier and more relaxed with being so busy and not to mention the income coming in. The future is looking much brighter now and who knows what you'll come up with new products for your store.
It definitely makes it easier to come to the shop every day and try to come up with new stuff!
Josh
Great to hear your jaws are a success 👍👍👍
I ordered a set. Understand the wait
Thanks. It should be next week early if all goes well.
Take your time
I totally understand the vendor thing. Unfortunately Im in Chicago. On the bright side I can get most things same or next day. As far as I’m concerned the World would stop spinning without MMC
We make some pcs from solid cast nylon that needs to be slightly oversized that we have to buy from Alro Plastics. Last batch of 36 lengths took 10 weeks
@@GeorgeBracht wow. 10 weeks is crazy. I don't buy my plastics from alro. I use a place in MN called sterling plastics.
A couple of very interesting sounding jobs coming up. I never miss any of your videos and I often hit the like before I even watch the video. I think it would be impossible for you to make a video that I didn't like.
Thanks, it means a lot to me!
Great to hear the jaws sold out so fast!
I'm happy for ya, I think it may go good for ya, keep up the great work.
That’s awesome. I hope you sell a whole bunch more. 👍
Edit: Of everything. 😊
Way to go Josh!
Thanks for the referral
I’ll give them a try nextime
Great news. Glad these sales are growing.
excellent news! glad to see its a hit
Keep up the good work. With your knowledge and experience you’ll have so much work coming in that you might have to hire helpers
Congrats on the sales. They look really good,
Suggestion: Look at JDS industries. Purchase a printer and label paper. print your own labels. Keeping as much as you can in house will help to control price and quality. Plus if will allow you to grow and be versatile. I make and sell my own products. It's hard. Love what you are doing. Thank you for the video's.
Glad to hear of your success with this venture. I am not a machinist but like and respect your work and videos. Best of luck
Thank you for the kind words!
Bravo. That is super great News.
Absolutely fantastic, Yaaaaayyyy...
Great news, keep on going 👍🇬🇧
All great news Josh! I just knew your jaws would be a hit.
Maybe you could manufacture some core parts that all the smaller import lathes need. The Hobby space is massive. Might be worth looking into.
So many videos of people struggling to get them in working specs and since they often all lack the power and size of a proper Mill/Lathe, they barely get the job done.
That is an interesting idea! I have never spent more than 2 minutes with a small machine, so I wouldn't know what they need.
@@TopperMachineLLCmany hobbyists use 4” vises, but not all of them use Imperial bolts. I have a Chinese made vise that uses M6 metric fasteners at the 2.5” spacing, and a 4” Tegara with the 2.5” spacing and 3/8” bolts. The M6 Allen head bolt probably will pass through the through hole for the 3/8” bolt in the jaws. Going after the hobby market could mean stocking a number of different mounting hole sizes, probably not worth it. Might be better to offer one without mounting holes that purchasers can machine themselves for their particular vise in addition to one with mounting holes the industry standard size.
@@mikeb1520 Jaws without mounting holes are actually in the plan.
glad to hear good news
Fantastic to hear, keep up the fantastic work. LOVE the show
Really happy for you, keep innovating!
That is just awesome 👏 congratulations.
Congratulations josh good to see your sales are up! It hard time in our business right now but we will survive..
this is a great product, make some with a V cut for round stock
That may be in the works eventually
Great video Josh, see i knew word of mouth would pay off, the way you do and achieve the amazing things you make and repair, people will always come to you. Great video, has it snowed yet?
thanks. No Snow. We got 6 inches, so I have my packed base, but that will be gone by the end of the week. Looks like another year of no snow.
I'll be getting a set just as soon as I get my allowance!
Good for you, Josh!
Wonderful news, now you have an income and plenty of work. Keep on with the good work.
Thats great news Josh!! If you build it, they will come!! 😃😎 I'm not a machinist so I can't use the vise jaws.... but I can couch for your HONEY! People should add some of that to their order!
I agree, it is good honey!!!
Outstanding, nice hat Josh…love the new look….Paul
It's only temporary. Lol
Thank you Josh!
Awesomeness!!! Good job!!!
Hay Josh:
I believe I told you before. I am an EE that got into sales & Marketing. I have always said “Provide a quality part at a fair price and people will buy.” This is what you have done. Considering that you don’t have enough work, maybe come up with a couple of additional ideas and offer it to your database.
Quick story: I had a great product. High quality at a fair price. Engineers loved it. I went to lunch with the president of one of my clients. During lunch he said: “Could you provide the product a bit smaller? I would buy a million.” Went around the country. All my clients said that they could use this new product. Gave the first samples to my first client. A week later he called me and said that he would like to buy 2 million.
I repeat what I said on top: “Provide a quality part at a fair price and people will buy.”
GO GET THEM!!
a good product,a good manufacturer...
Great job!!! Glad to see them selling. Maybe you can come up with a few more things to make and sell to help take the place of the work you have lost because of manufacturing leaving your area. Maybe one day you won’t have to rely on other jobs but making your own products to sale.
That would be cool!
@@TopperMachineLLC You just need to find other useful items to make.
@ I wish I had some ideas.
@@TopperMachineLLC Maybe a second set of pins with flats machined on them, which I think someone already suggested?
@@BrucePierson They are welcome to modify however they need.
Good to see you have a product that sells! Hopefully you will keep getting problems like this.
It's a good problem to have. They really look useful and I hope you have more clever ideas for other products!
For labels, look into a cricut machine. You can cut, print, and even burn on multiple materials including adhesive vinyl to make your own
We looked into it, just can't justify the expense. Since this is just a hobby for her, we don't want to get too involved
Hi, about the labels, if they doesnt need to be multi color, you can also buy a thermo label printer, i would recommend the brother QL800 and the paper doesnt cost that much. There is also good thrid party stuff and it works flawless. I love to have it in my shop
Mr. Josh, greetings from the oldest town in Texas, Nacogdoches. Good that you’re selling more pin vice jaws. Hopefully soon I’ll have a Kurt vice restored and can order a set from you. How is the snowblower?
Snowblower is still sitting there, scaring the snow away.
Great news Josh!
Thank the Lord , just when you think you’re out of work , everything comes together. Itll be all right
You can't beat success!
Hi Josh. My wife makes and sells chapsitck also. She prints her labels on the home printer, plain ol printer. She buys the label paper specifically for those tubes and prints her label on it. Just thought this idea might help you. Good luck🍻
I am considering this option. It would require a new printer though. Color laser is not cheap
Taking off like a rocket! I hope it keeps up!
Side note, my Chinese vise is 4".
2 inches too small. story of my life...
I plan to make some 4" jaws soon
@@TopperMachineLLC I'm all in.
Retired now but I have a tiny shop at home. Just ordered a bottle of the lube. Perfect for the home shop.
A toast.... to QualityProblems!
thank you
Well done on shifting them so quickly.
This is one of those times where maybe, just maybe, you could have some made out by a CNC shop. There will be a slowdown in people wanting them, once the first adopters have bought theirs. So I'd still do the small batches.
Yes, they will remain small batches. I plan to stock only 10-20 sets for long term.
Well done, I started in 77 at 16 on a Bridgeport manual no dro. The J&S Jones and Shipman vice was good but was told to make a new set that had tapped holes for stops.
I made them then ground them (learning how to use a surface grinder)
They were heat treated then ground, but I had to shim them only 1.5 thou so they were square to the quill.
Thanks!
Thank you very much
"Build a better mousetrap and people will beat a path to your door," or something like that.
Congratulations on cashing in on your very good idea.
Wow, great to hear the pin jaws are selling like hotcakes!
Time Saver ?: It looks like you have everything centered for the jaw to vice holes.
If so, you could leave the mill in the same spot and just open vice and flip the part.
You could drill, counter sink, chamfer without spending time moving the mill hundreds of times.
The positioner would make drilling the pin holes easier too if they are equidistant from each end.
Set mill, drill, flip, drill - repeat for 50 jaws. move mill to next hole location / repeat new hole x 50.
Hope this is helpful and you do well with the new projects.
Been doing production manual machining my whole life. That is what I do. Only a moron would move for every single hole for each part. That would take forever.
@@TopperMachineLLC - I know you are not a moron. I can see you are doing each operation to each part.
My suggestion is to flip the part end for end and hit each part twice = cuts number of times you have to move the mill & go through the stack.
This will only work if everything is symmetrical from center. Not trying to tell you what to do. It seems like you take feedback well at times.
@mcki4812 ok, I did not understand what you were getting at. I learned long ago, not to do this. If some parts are off, even a few thou, it will screw you. Always work from one reference point. On these jaws, I want perfection, even though it may not be needed.
The head on the back of your bridgeport could you possibly show it in -op. I was wondering if it is a slotter/keyway cutter. Thanks Josh good luck, god bless.
eventually, when there is time. no, not a slotter, I have a real one of those.
Great news! You should think about other products as well.
in 13 years, this is the first thing I have come up with. Not an easy task.
@@TopperMachineLLC First of many new products made by Topper Machine LLC.
whoa!
Its totally due to respect for you Josh - face facts 40% will never be used, however that does not matter at all.
I honestly hope you are wrong. I hope all 100% get used to their fullest potential.
Have you ever considered making a jaws out of aluminum? Look forward to your next video as always.
Have you considered etching your logo on these? its easy and cheap to make a shop made setup
I have, but that's an added expense and time right now. Eventually though.
I have a small machine shop in Beaver dam Wisconsin, wonder how far you are from me?
Would love to come check out your Shop!
Very nice work!
Spooner, WI. I'm across the magical no-go border of US 8, where nobody will ship to.
Josh, Go get a Flobee. I haven't been to a barber in over 35 years. Everytime I cut my own hair I've saved $25. When times are tough, the smart get tougher.
Same here. For some reason the Flobee became an object of derision in popular culture but I've used mine for 10 years and have saved a ton of money. I use an inexpensive hand trimmer for the edges since the flobee doesn't cut less than 1/4". Early on during break in, I had the cutter jaws stick, but it was easy to take apart, clear the jam and lube them up. I haven't had an issue since.
Hope your making a good profit on this product to keep you going in Spooner.
They are doing fine. But being a niche product, the need will dry up at some point.
@@TopperMachineLLC You might be surprised how many of these you'll sell after word gets around! As many Kurt vices as I see people using (and the "knock off" ones that use the same jaws) I'll bet you get well into the hundreds of sets...
@@PhilG999 that would be nice.
Yeah but you are a smart man josh, youll find another thing to produce and sell and make money from, niche products sell too!
Spooner, eh? Nice area.
I work in a large machine shop in Southern Wisconsin.
If you need to make a bunch of these....
@@MikeYurbasovich nice area, but extremely economically depressed. I still love it here.
@TopperMachineLLC Indeed it is. I live around Madison and hate this area. I come up there to fish and people say hi, you can have a conversation with strangers, people make eye contact, and you don't have to worry about getting stabbed getting groceries.
So, there's drawbacks to living around cities as well. Best wishes.
For the most part, we don't prepay for gas here either. Unless you go to one of those worthless Kwik Trip's. I refuse to get anything there. I do stop frequently at them in my travels to leave deposits. But that is all they get.
When you've got a good product and a customer demand, you'll sell whatever you can make but don't get sucked in to making more than orders as you don't want to stock a niche product. Not trying to preach but you know your economics
I'm planning to get a little ahead and try to stay just 10-20 ahead at all times.
Josh, what's your label printing setup? Do you have a label printer or just a ink printer?
We don't have any color printers. Lip balm labels are ordered.
