Lovely commentary on this boat, L. Francis and what we miss in modern high performance boats. Thank you.

My Dad had this boat “Varuna” built in 1950 at the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club, Dorval, Quebec. As we were members of the Lord Reading Yacht Club, Beaconsfield, Quebec we sailed many years from there. As a young person, I took her out alone with ease. I’m 76 now and miss her so much! I think she is in Mystic, Conn. now.

We had an L. Francis Herreshoff design boat which was a Cape Cod Marlin Daysailor marconi rigged sloop - inspired by the Fish Class but larger with an enormous 11 foot cockpit. There was plenty of room to take people out for comfortable day sails. Yes. She looks stunning at the mooring. My father added a bowsprit later to reduce the weather helm which made it 26 ft but without it she's 23.6 ft over all. They make them custom for you at Cape Cod Ship builders. They made a cruiser version also with a smaller cockpit.
I raced her in the first Herreshoff Rendesvous in Bristol RI and we came in 2nd in our class. Her name then was Hanahou.

I have a 1957 Cape Cod Marlin cruiser version. I get the same joy as I view the boat in my dinghy after a sail.

My wife and I sailed his H28, built in Sydney BC in 1964, for fifteen years. Quite Tune seems to be a more delicate version of the H28.

    Hello,
I am planning to build my own boat and I was wondering if there is a way to get "quiet tune" drawings ?
    Regards,
    Pascal.

Hi there, Pascal. Thanks for reaching out. You might do well to get a hold of a copy of "Sensible Cruising Designs" by L.F. Herreshoff, which has a little information on her. Also, if you have more questions about similar daysailer designs or want to check out similar plans available at our store, please visit: www.woodenboatstore.com/category/plans_-_boatbuilding

I believe you can get original plans from a museum in Mystic, Conn.
