Fantastic video! I found that a lot of ppl don’t explain a lot of the Genie+ and standby skipper terminology so it’s hard to really understand and follow. I enjoyed and watched this entire Video. You r a great communicator 😊
Thanks for this video. A few questions : 1- As someone who is well versed in Genie Plus, do you think SS is faster/better than you at booking LL? 2- if you want to be efficient with SS (not running all over the park all day), it seems like you still have to direct its choices 1 at a time - is that correct, and if so, how is that different than Genie +? Thanks for your help!
Standby Skipper runs its searches around every five minutes (to avoid creating an unfair advantage to non-Skipper users) so it definitely shines with helping at that 7am booking and getting those ‘sold out’ or harder to get lightning lanes. Sometimes it is faster as it can grab one while you are enjoying the ride, but depending on availability, it can sometimes take a few minutes. I like to think of Standby Skipper as my second pair of hands to help me reduce the amount of time I’m spending looking for Lightning Lanes, but I still have control over what I do. If wanting to avoid back and forth in the park, I recommend putting searches in groups of 2-3 at a time - usually within a specific land. This would be the same if you were booking on your own, Skipper just does some of the legwork. I highly recommend checking out their Facebook group for more strategies, tips, and questions! m.facebook.com/groups/714914666971831/?ref=sharem.facebook.com/groups/714914666971831/?ref%3Dshare&exp=7ffb&mibextid=S66gvF
Online it says with genie plus you can only use it for 2-3 rides but if you play it correctly you can actually use it for many more rides? Am I understanding this correctly??
The Disney website says that people can average around 2-3 rides with Genie+ so that they can ‘set expectations’ for those that don’t totally know how to use Genie+. (Many people were complaining when it first rolled out that they were not able to get Lightning lanes for every single ride, so they basically are lowering expectations lol) BUT that being said, you can ABSOLUTELY get more rides than that if you understand how to use Genie+ correctly! TBH, if you are only getting 2-3 Lightning Lanes, you might be doing it wrong 🙈 the key is the ALWAYS make sure that you have a Lightning Lane booked and if you are using Standby Skipper, it should make that much easier 😁 Definitely make sure to check out my latest Standby Skipper series! Great video. Although we won't be using genie+ on our 2 week trip in April (due to having time to take it slow) we found your video as informative and professional as always. Some great tips and nice to see you both walking on rides without it.
Yes! It’s definitely important to take advantage of those early mornings and late nights when crowds and lines are smallest! I hope you have a great time! 😁
This was really cool to learn all about genie plus. We have never used it and don’t know if we would tbh but it’s a good option if you do t want to queue We found that the regular posted queue times were really exaggerated xx
That can definitely be the case sometimes! I would definitely say that Genie+ isn’t for everyone, but if you are trying to get a lot done in a shorter period of time, it can be a BIG help! 😁
This video in particular was fantastic, as I am a visual learner in comparison to the first two about it. Also, I adore your navy Disney sweatshirt. Did you purchase it there?
Thank you! I know it can be a little complicated but as long as you know the basics, it all starts to make sense once you’ve booked your first one or two Lightning Lanes. And yes! I believe we got it a few years ago!
Is it accurate that there is a 15 minute (maybe 5 minute) grace period before and after your return time for Lightning Lanes? So if you had a 9-10am return time you could actually tag in before 9 or after 10 (by a few minutes)?
Yes! That is correct! You can usually scan in around 5 minutes or so ahead of time (if it doesn’t work, just wait a few and try again, it can sometimes just depend on the cast member) and about 15 minutes after your time. HOWEVER, if you think you will be more than 15 minutes late, try to modify for a later time or cancel so that you are allowed to rebook. If you miss your return window without cancelling, you won’t be able to rebook.
Great video and advice! I have a question. On average, how quickly after to check in to a ride, is SS booking a reservation for you? I know it can change a lot based on the situation but can you expect pretty quick turnarounds or lower our expectation? TIA
It honestly depends on a few factors (crowd levels, how many searches you have going, if you did anytime or asap, etc). I’ve had it book as quickly as before getting off the current ride and take as long as 45 minutes-hour if I’m trying for a hard to get ride that is sold out. My biggest tip is to have patience, but if it’s been about half an hour, either adjust your searches to ‘anytime’ or you can check and book something else on your own! I like to think of Standby Skipper as an assistant to help when I’m on a ride or doing something else, but it’s good to know you can book on your own too! (I definitely do a combo of both)
I have a question.......does the Stanby Skipper or Genie+ try to book your next attraction close by? Or does it book it by what's available next? Im trying to avoid walking to the other side of the park for 1 ride then having to walk back. Thnx in advance for your help!
Great question! It doesn’t have a way to know where you are, so just make sure that whatever rides you have active searches for are ones that are near you! (You can find locations on the map) I recommend going by ‘land’ - ie. Tomorrowland rides, then fantasyland rides, etc
Hi, Great informative video. Does Standby Skipper take into account where the rides are in the park comparative to your last ride......or do you have to accept they'll be some walking to be done?
It doesn’t really follow location, but rather it’s based on what it can get. My suggestion is to put your searches in batches! For example, start with putting in the Tomorrowland rides, then once those are done, put in your Fantasyland rides, etc. it’s still pretty leave it and forget it, but you have a little bit more control on what it can book for you that way!
Great video! Can you tell Standby Skipper to book your first lightening lane after a specific time? We’re definitely not making it to the parks for 9am!
Typically yes! I recommend doing ‘anytime’ for your 7am selection just in case return times book up for the first two hour slots, but otherwise, I usually do ASAP! If it’s a super hard to get one, like Remy in Epcot or Slinky Dog in HS, I’ll also usually do anytime to increase my chances.
I usually only do 2-3 rides at a time so that I have more control of how much I’m back tracking across the park (except at the 7am one. For that, I only do ONE selection so that it grabs the one I’m wanting most)
Awesome video! I’m taking my family for the first time this February. I do have a question about genie plus. If I was to purchase genie plus for the 3 of us, would it automatically book a lighting lanes for the 3 of us?
So you are correct that you would need to buy it for all of you! If you are using Standby Skipper, it will ask you who you want it to book for. So if you want all three, select all three. If you want just 1 or 2 of you, you’ll select just those people. If you are booking Lightning lanes through the Disney app, it will also ask you who you want to book for. It defaults to select all of you, but if you want just 1 or 2 people, you’ll just need to unselect who you don’t want before confirming. I hope that makes sense!
@@kaylaandmarkalan it does make sense. Thank your for the reply! I assume there wouldn’t be any additional cost for Standby Skipper to book 3 people that are in the same group?
@xrpephraim1501 you would just purchase Standby Skipper once for the group ( not per person like it is for Genie+, but you do have to purchase BOTH Standby Skipper AND Genie+ for it to work) Standby Skipper is $25 for the group for 1 day and $45 for the group for up to 7 days! I definitely recommend checking out their Facebook page! There are a bunch of great tutorials and breakdowns of how it works and how to get it set up! 😁 m.facebook.com/groups/714914666971831/?ref=sharem.facebook.com/groups/714914666971831/?ref%3Dshare&exp=7ffb&mibextid=AHjCNw
Really useful video - thanks. Can you tell me if standby skipper works well if members of your group want to go on the same rides sometimes but on different rides sometimes too?
Yes! You can absolutely do this! Once you choose the ride you want Skipper to search for, you’ll select the members of your party you want it to book. So if only certain ppl want to ride, only select them!
@@kaylaandmarkalan But wouldn’t it book the separate rides for us at different times and then everyone end up eligible for the next LL at different times and ultimately then not doing anything together!?
Potentially! But remember, you can always modify or cancel if the times end up not being what you want! You can always reset a search if you cancel and try for that ride again later. Don’t stress! Let Skipper do It’s thing and just take it one ride at a time. The purpose is to ease your stress, not add to it! You are still in control of what you do, Skipper just helps so that you can spend a little less time stressing about booking the next thing.
Does Skipper automatically select the earliest time available for the rides you've selected within your window? For example, if I select "any time" for a specific ride, will it choose the earliest available for that ride or just pick a random return time?
Since the way regular genie+ works is based off of the ‘next available’ return time, Standby Skipper does the same! Genie+ is a little different in that you are given a return time rather than selecting one and Standby Skipper plays by the same rules. So essentially, yes! It should be the earliest available time! It all just depends on what that earliest available time is.
Great video.. we are going in 9 days! I already purchased Standby Skipper and can't wait to use it.. I didn't catch if your selections were Anytime, afternoon, evening or ASAP? Any further info would help on my trip! Thanks
I pretty much always do ASAP because I only put in a few selections at a time, but you can also strategize and set up your selections for the morning, afternoon, etc!
Yes! I belong to the FB group.. I was going to do ASAP so I'm glad I saw your video and that you did that as well. Can I lastly ask about how many (after the 7am of course lol) you did at a time?
When you set up Standby Skipper in the morning, do you select 'any time' for all of the attractions you want Lightning Lanes for that day, or do you use any sort of 'strategy' for time of day for particular rides? Do you select one ride at a time or all at once? Do you leave some attractions off that you know will have lower waits, such as the 'filler' attractions and shows?
Honestly yes to any of it! There are a lot of different ways to do it depending on how hands on or hands off you want to be. HOWEVER, I do recommend for your first one to ONLY set up one search for anytime or morning and then AFTER it books that, you can put in the rest of your searches. I also usually prioritize the rides I want to do most first and then if I’ve booked or ridden all of those, I’ll put in more selections.
