    Wow 14 years old and the way she speaks and explained everything was absolutely amazing. This is so beyond messed up that this was 4 years ago and there hasn’t been any change, just more awful shootings. Shootings are considered “rare” in countries that have stricter gun laws, why can’t we be one of them?!? 🙏

    • @kellymcdonell9687
      @kellymcdonell9687 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why can’t people just stop shooting others? Why can’t we love more and hate less? Why can’t we reach out to people we see hurting? You say shootings are rare in other countries but what about being slashed to death by a machete, or being stabbed to death, or being burned alive or being pushed in front of a train or crashing a car into a crowd of people? It’s not about guns, it’s about mental health. The more the media shows all this, the more kids with depression want to upstage the last shooter. It’s a multi faceted. We did not have school shootings until life like shooter video games came along but guns have been around since America was founded. I’m not sure what the solution is, but if you read the Bible, things will only get worse until Jesus comes back.

    • @kellymcdonell9687
      @kellymcdonell9687 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ashleyr.6953 that’s true however guns have been around forever, the school shootings are a relatively recent phenomenon, so what has changed? People can get guns, drugs, alcohol, or whatever else that is illegal to them if they really want. So what kind of restrictions do you propose other than banning all guns?

    • @_jjmrod
      @_jjmrod 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kellymcdonell9687 you make some good points. I never thought about it that way & I totally agree about the mental health aspect. However these mass shootings are completely out of control & stricter gun laws would be a portion of the solution. That’s not to say some won’t turn to other forms of violence but generally speaking the amount of people they are able to murder in a matter of seconds is far more w/ their AR-15 style rifles.

    • @joesteel1329

      Exactly!!! We need more voices I think nothing will change until we all come together and stand up. Teachers have to refuse to teach students refuse to attend school until there’s a change. If not the list will go on more patents Will sorrow more lives will be lost and more names will add on.

    • @britbrat4559
      @britbrat4559 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joesteel1329 we need to make changes to all these schools..the amount of accessible doors for these terrorists to come through is idiotic. Yes we need many exits because of fire drills but those doors should only be exit only and reinforced. I know people hate metal detectors but that's also something that needs to go into all of these schools. Also mental health has got to become a priority. A test needs to be administered to the students on the regular basis that will red flag any student who is suffering from any type of mental illness as well as abuse that they might be suffering at home. Why can't we do that? Some of these ways to help protect our children are very simple. Also I know it is not popular but I feel as though we need to arm our teachers. If we have teachers that are willing to go through the training then I think they should have every right as an American to protect themselves and those around them. I think if these School shooters knew that there were armed teachers within the school it could be a huge deterrent. Also attacking our right to bear arms is going to do nothing but embolden the criminals. Criminals will get a hold of a legal guns no matter what. That's a known fact. In the Columbine shooting they wanted to use bombs to take out 400 students in the cafeteria. Guns aren't the only things that we have to worry about but it seems like that's all the government ever wants to talk about. They never want to talk about the bigger issue which is mental health.

    I love that she spoke about mental health and I truly believe that if schools incorporated mental health education and also had more counseling and counselors available and even if some big schools such as the one in Parkland didn’t have so many students maybe they built and sister school and split the amount of students the faculty could bear the weight of all the students. Where I live we don’t even have half the amount of students in the schools here because there are so many different schools. We have about 6 elementary schools in our county four middle schools and 4 high schools. And the county isn’t large so there’s maybe approx 500 students in my sons high school if that. But over 3,000 students!? That’s a lot! If they’re going to have that many students they must provide the proper amount of faculty especially counselors needed. The taxes paid should cover most school needs!

    You are wise beyond your years. You are so right about mental health. You are so right, no child should have to go through the horror of what you and your friends went through that day. Mental health and treatment is more important than physical education, and sexual education. I hope the educational departments take Mental Health more serious. Things need to change. People need to be kind to their friends as well as the people they don't know. I believe that you can help make a difference. May much love and peace follow you through your path of life. And all children deserve the right to Mental Health knowledge and Mental Health treatment. ❤️

    During high school you feel like your friends are your family. This school was there other home. Imagine being in your room at home hiding while on the other side of your home your being told your family members are on the floor and there's nothing you can do. This shouldn't happen. What's stopping anyone right now from walking into a school and doing whatever they desire. Uvalde happened because no one in power learned from this. It's like they're playing a monopoly game with our lives. I'm glad to have made it out of hs and no longer have to worry about this until the day I adopt a child. I hope they still don't have to worry about this but probably will have to still.

      If you were going to be given the chance to speak publicly about something that deeply affected your life and the lives of many others and you had suggestions for how to reduce harm going forward, wouldn't you write it down and try to get everything you wanted to say in order in your head before the date and time of the speaking opportunity? Just because she came prepared and had given it a lot of thought and rehearsed to help herself keep her composure, doesn't mean she's not being real. It's like when people speak at a funeral service. They usually prepare ahead of time and rehearse so they don't go on a rant or ramble or break down crying or say something inappropriate. It's out of respect for the dead and the families. Doesn't mean what they're saying or how they feel isn't real.

    Just when you think this massacre couldn't get worse, it does. All I can do is sit here in shock what pain this victim and her friends experienced that day. She says it beautifully what needs to be said.
    Then to say the obvious, all student's should be required to take mental health education like physical education. Also require the class resources like a social worker to be available and accessable, and provided at the students request for help. That age is still impressionable enough to get them help to learn to cope with being bullied at school, and at home, by their own family. Then talk about having difficulty concentrating on your lesson's and distracted from studying, thereby, getting poor grades. It's a snowball effect when you are young and feel all alone and forced to grow up and make adult decision's because their parents aren't involved at all what is going on in their kid's life.

This would literally be life changing. 2 classrooms should be connected via a door inside the room so there can be a connecting bunker in the middle so everybody can stay safe at all times. The only problem with that is leaving a door wide open to indoctrination because so many in that field have mental issues, too. It would be a very important, yet very delicate subject and how to implement it. Still, not a bad idea worth looking into.

    It is traumatizing. Agreed. But what scares me every day is driving on the road with other teenage drivers in oncoming traffic on a 2-lane highway while they are busy texting and cross the center line. Nearly hitting my car, almost EVERY DAY. Just think. a 5,000lb vehicle traveling 70mph at me. Not saying you are wrong. Just saying that you should think about the whole picture of the Moral compass of Society. A firearm is just 1 drop in the bucket to the many deaths that happen on the road each and EVERY DAY vs firearms.
