Toyota just had their press launch event for the 2020 Highlander. I don’t think they wanted the 2019 to be in the comparison as it’ll soon be old news. Why waste the time when the new model will be out late next month? Makes total sense to omit having it in the comparison.

3 name changes allowed every 90 days. Many people care if it’s soulless to drive, although a sad majority (like you) prefer appliances since they only look at the rigid facts about a car. Nothing wrong with that...but don’t get mad if we don’t want to drive a toaster every day.

I recently was in the market for one of these. The Ford Explorer is by far the superior vehicle. The seats are great. Motor week conveniently left out the amount of front seat legroom, excellent seats and the very wide cargo area of 4 feet between wheel wells. The Explorers chassis is light years ahead of all the front drive clones. It rides better, handles better, stops faster, pulls more G's around curves if you want to push and it accelerates better. Of course the Korean twins cost less. They did not spend the R&D that Ford did on the new Explorer chassis. When you drive it the rear wheel based chassis is just great. I settled for the ST model which comes standard with all the safety suite of features. Plus 400 HP and 415 lb ft of torque. It will run circles around all of these. For a sticker of 56,500 its a bargain. As they say you get what you pay for .

... bummer, I was really hoping the Ascent would fair better. Here's to the mid-cycle refresh and gen2. The Mrs keeps nudging me that our CX-5 isn't big enough (just one 7yo to haul around), so I'm looking at 3rows so we can keep the 3rd folded and have the extra cargo area while still retaining a descent back seat. Even the Grand Cherokee has a smallish backseat. The CX-9 is nice, but still on the fence about Mazda infotainment. Our budget (usually) has us limited to the bottom trims anyway, so, I'm not all that interested in near lux do-dads because not everyone has $40k+ to spend on a (new) vehicle; plus i like to keep it simple.

I would disagree and say that Honda is currently producing good cars. The Accord is a great car to drive not to mention it’s carried the torch of being on C/D 10 best every year it’s produced. It’s also packed with value especially on the 1.5 sport. The Civic was North American car of the year. The CR-V while not my cup of tea is by far one of the best in the segment. The pilot is an older design that I’m sure will be redone within the next year or two but still a nice three row SUV. It uses the J-Series V6 with is arguably one of the best 6 cylinder engine ever made. So while many people see 90s Honda with rose colored glasses, Honda has never stopped being a good car company that builds excellent automobiles.
