    my buddy has a 94 BMW M3 with similar 3.0 inline 6 and we replaced these belts and after it was unalingned or too loose/tight so its squeaks tertibly. would these tensioner systems be alterable at all to stop this?

    Great visual opportunity and demonstration. PLEASE get a tripod. It can be aimed and stay in place where you aim it. Much of what you were demonstrating was out of frame and the drain pan was being filmed. I made the same mistake when I was starting out. Everyone told me the same thing. They were right. Also the top idler pulley is the easiest and best one to pull from and end on when the front end isn't removed. Good post and information. Way to go!

    E39 530i serpentine belts are not all set up this way. The upper tensioner is released with allen bit or wrench on the pulley itself. Turning clockwise loosens the tension.

    there are two belts: Serpentine belt is main belt that connects cranck shaft to alternator, power steering and water pump. Then you have the lower left belt that connects the ac compressor to the crank shaft.

    i beleive mechanical tensioners come on most e46 3-series models. The tension comes from a spring that is rolled up into the tension er. Hydraulic tensioners are common on 540 and 740 models from 98-03. It looks like a small shock. Since you have a 330, you will need a mechanical tensioner

    If I replace the Serpentine Belt and A/C Belt, do I normally replace all the tensioners and pulley?

    • @bimmermerchant
      @bimmermerchant  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great Question. Ideally you would need to replace tensioners and pulleys. That way you don't need to do the job twice by putting serpentine belt and then a couple months later, replace pulleys and tensioners. Personally, I would just replace the belt and once I hear pulleys squealing, replace pulleys then since its not that hard of a job and i wouldn't mind doing a task that will take me less than 15 min twice. Your call.
