Do you actually feel the O chain with the chainring already free backpedaling for helping with the kickback? I'm looking at one for my Bosch. I think it would take up the tension when hammering the foot back down on the crank, taking that tension off the chain. I don't think it would feel any better having full free spin on the chainring plus the free backpedaling of the motor. ebikes are great for not having nearly as much pedal kickback because of the already free back rotating chain ring without cranks! It's just when you put your foot back down to pedal. I think this would be a big improvement on an ebike! I actually think this is a system an ebike needs standard for eliminating chain snaps.
There is still the same amount of float in the ochain its just the refrence point is between the rear axle and the chain ring rather than teh cranks. It does the same thing when youre riding. Its just from the point of view of the crank when the bike is stationary the cranks dont actuate the elastomers the rear wheel does.
O chain is always 9 degrees for example a low POE hub can be more or less than 9 degrees. It could be 1 degree or 16 degrees for example. O chain does seem very expensive compared to a low poe hub
A 9 degree hub is only ever 9 degrees half the time throughout the hubs rotation. There after its diminishing returns depending on how close the pawl's are to being engaged at the point of the kick back incident. Also once you are on the brakes and the pawls engage you're super stuck. Ochain reduces the chance of these things happening and is a high fidelity racing product so marginal gains for sure! but it does do something! WC racers arent usually wrong about that stuff! We would love to do a deep dive into it all but its super hard to do and would need sensors and all sorts! Maybe a good video though to compare kickback on a 9 deg hub and an Ochain?!
@@BRINKUK I also like to add that NONE of the WC athletes are sponsored by Ochain. Them using it is completely unbiased and improves their ride. So, if they're buying it, it does something significant.
We used the Ochain chain ring just to see what it was like. If we had used the stock ring we would have had to swap out the chain ring bolts for longer ones. Just FYI.
Tricky one this as say theres a hub with 36 engagements with 9 degrees. Those 9 degrees aren't available all the time as the wheel is spinning and at 36 points in that spin the pawls are engaged in which case you have 0 degrees in that instance. Also once you are on the brakes and the pawls engage you're super stuck. Ochain reduces the chance of these things happening and is a high fidelity racing product so marginal gains for sure! Did you use the stock chain ring or you're using the O-chain chain ring?

@@BRINKUK I ordered the spider yesterday. I’ll have to check where to buy that long bolts. Appreciate that. Thanks!
@@BRINKUK I didn’t realize there are few “long bolts” sizes. 8, 8.5, 10 and 12.5mm. Do you know which one?
Wouldn’t a low engagement rear hub achieve the same thing?
Yes it does. Like a normal engamement rear hub like DT Swiss 350/240 w. 36T StarRatchet and 10° pickup. Problem solved! :)
