I like it but to be fair I mostly play dmz so I got it way sooner it kicks ass with the ai if you have a good team that can back you up and a good secondary for close encounters so definitely depending on how you play it kicks ass I can see why people hate it though
I put the aim point, m16a4 barrel and stock on an m4 a pretend it’s a full auto m16. This is how I cope with the actual in-game weapon being the worst thing to grace my computer monitor
Don't worry, it'll get a "slight buff" in the near future turning it into a recoil-less single-bust-at-any-range murder machine and stay like that for a couple of months where you're insane if you use anything else. Then it'll be nerfed into the ground again.
Sick snipes did not demonstrate what the gun behaves like when it is put to semi auto. Since battle rifles have damage buffs in semi, I am afraid this gun also has that feature. If this gun is 1 burst kill at close range and has good semi auto damage, I think its current recoil is just fine.
Considering that the point of Burst-fire was to allow for more accurate and controllable fire. It's absolutely baffling that IW literally took this concept and did a complete 180, especially to a weapon as iconic as the M16
I agree, maybe keep the damage as it is, extend the damage range a bit but make the recoil feel only after the burst, not for each shot, right now why would anyone use this if you have the M4?

I actually managed to make the M16 work after trying to use it all day yesterday The secret is you still have to pull down for recoil. Minute I remembered to do that gun became extremely consistent. That being said, I am using a mouse and I'm not sure the short flick you do to keep it on target is easy to do on controller, so this might just be one of those guns most people can't use to its potential. Also, suppressors with recoil smoothing make the recoil less jumpy and easier to control, and aiming stability is also important to improve
Very similar to how I use it and have been having good success with it. Get a ton of great aim stability options through stock, grip and laser sight. An under barrel for recoil steadiness and a suppressor for damage range rounds out my attachments

I built mine into a Mk12 thingy and it was surprisingly fun ... that being said i still died more than i would've had if i simply had the M4 .... also i'm extremely bummed out by the fact that you can't have optics with the front sight post and after grinding for it i don't only feel robbed but my therapist dumped me because she said i'm unfixable
Here is a quick guide from someone who has the M16 to platinum: 1.) The M16 is a tactical rifle, therefore it can burst at close range and has almost no attachments for long range. 2.) Take your time since this weapon requires actual skill from timing your bursts correctly 3.) If you are doing long shot then keep in mind that this weapon requires 6 direct shots to the chest (MP only) 4.) Semi-automatic mode is not recommended 5.) Use attachments for recoil, ADS speed, and mobility 6.) Do not use in hardcore mode, the M16 is not reliable since it apparently takes an entire burst to kill someone at close range when other weapons do it in 1 shot 7.) It's good in warzone and DMZ if you know what you are doing (It takes 2-3 bursts to down someone who's fully plated) Trust me, I say all of this from experience

To strictly call the Sig M5 as adopted by the US Army a direct derivative of the AR-18 is a pretty hefty claim, due to it not bearing all of the features or adding to the original weapon design, and also the choice of cartridge as well. For example, is the AK-101 a derivative of the AK pattern? Yes, you could call it that. But the term platform and variant is to state that the design is a derivative of an existing firearm’s system of function and operating principles. I just leveled this gun, and if it was the starter gun then it probably wouldnt feel bad. Except that instead you use other weapons that run laps around it before you even get to it. So by the time you finally use the m16 every time you die your just reminded of how you could have lived.
Fun fact: The M16 is currently the ONLY burst fire weapon in the game. Also it got buffed so now is alright. But this reminded me of the pain of levelin' it up
The M16 was criticized by some soldiers to a toy but then later on the weapon became well respected although it still had issues such as jamming and sometimes being underpowered
Tip for the M16, Only On PC. Switch to semi auto for ranged fights, and burst for CQC. Never ADS with Burst and never Hip fire with Semi. Canted site laser is the all rounder attachment if you are good with guessing where your center dot is without seeing it. Never get into fights outside of 50ms and don't attach anything except for lasers, optics and hip fire control under barrel attachments. The optimal fight is up close to lower the RNG spread of the bursts can hit their chest more then once and far enough away where you can ads and tap them 8 times, any other range in between switch your your secondary.
I haven't unlocked it in the release game yet, but in the beta I found it's a much better weapon on semi auto. If you treat it as the Insurgency Sandstorm M16 and just keep that trigger finger fresh, it's very versatile across ranges.
Fun fact about Vietnam M16. Some logistics would end up treating certain zones regarding the effectiveness of the M16. Some zones had 1 for 1 good M16 while other zones had so many troubles with their rifles that it took nearly 4 funky m16s to Jerry rig 1 dependable one.
Probably had something to do with platoons receiving varying levels of training about cleaning their firearms and performing basic maintenance. Cringe nonetheless

One of the worst camo grinds I’ve ever went through, I got the gun to max level before even completing the second challenge, and three kills without dying took over two hours.
After getting this thing gold, I can confirm I enjoyed it less than getting gold on all of the launchers, calling it a pea shooter would be insulting to the pea shooters, I actually gave up on it as an AR and threw the under barrel shotgun on it and had better results with that. Also new viewer, loving your MW2 content, would like to see your opinions on the RAAL lmg since you enjoyed using the Icarus
Technically it is self cleaning. Because it is direct impingement the excess gas comes out of the bolt carrier and blows dirt out of the receiver area. The problem is it uses dirty gases to do that, but modern AR pattern rifles can deal with that problem better than previous versions.
Yes technically but you still clean your weapons, period. Especially in highly humid environments such as Vietnam where the moisture rusted out the earlier models without the chrome lined barrels if they weren't completely and strenuously maintenanced.
It does not. It is allowed to kill in 1 burst as long as you hit 1 on the head. Which would be doable, but the recoil is absolutely random and you cannot trust it. But if you put it in semi auto, it's still not "good" but it becomes really fun to use because you can tap motherfuckers in 3 shots.
I played since the Beta and I gotta say that I had to use the M16 on semi-auto only than to rely on the burst. Like, using it as a "battle rifle" was surprisingly good, at least compared to it's default fire mode.
They should just give it a full-auto option that turns it into an M4 clone. From a practical standpoint there really isn't a reason to have both in the game
They owned the rights to the licensing, and guarded it jealously earlier on, they might have sold the rights to make one to someone like Sig but for the most part it was a Colt piece until the patent passed into open domain. I don't know what Armalite does not but if they're still around I'm sure they make them now, everyone does.

I've been having some decent success with this gun so here are my tips. Try to get as much aim stability and damage range as possible. That means no touching the barrel and putting on a suppressor. An under barrel with recoil steadiness should be all you need for recoil control.

They were probably worried it was going to be overpowered again, since Cold War, CoD4 and a bit of OG MW2 did have a very powerful if not broken m16

Try it in a single-fire mode :) It`s become 30 round "Ftac Recon" up-close with much less recoil on longer ranges
Just an FYI, AR actually stands for ArmaLite Rifle, not Automatic Rifle. ArmaLite was the company that developed the platform

Tip for the M16, Only On PC. Switch to semi auto for ranged fights, and burst for CQC. Never ADS with Burst and never Hip fire with Semi. They should just give it a full-auto option that turns it into an M4 clone. From a practical standpoint there really isn't a reason to have both in the game
It's funny. I thought Armalite still manufactured the AR-15 and the other stuff. I didn't know Colt got involved.
They owned the rights to the licensing, and guarded it jealously earlier on, they might have sold the rights to make one to someone like Sig but for the most part it was a Colt piece until the patent passed into open domain. I don't know what Armalite does not but if they're still around I'm sure they make them now, everyone does.

@@SickSnipes if i wasnt lazy id go get my ar, but i could estimate, roughly 20x less than the one in game that i could use as a lug to attach it to another m16s barrel in place of a bayonet
maxing recoil control and maintaining your distance will do justice to m16, alas battle and sniper rifles do exist in mw2...

M16 is my favorite gun to use in mw2
I slapped an ACOG and a forward grip on it and it's not terrible, although I hope they do buff it a bit because it's still not very good at range
This gun is the MW2 equivalent of "98 in 4"

I've been having some decent success with this gun so here are my tips. Try to get as much aim stability and damage range as possible. That means no touching the barrel and putting on a suppressor. An under barrel with recoil steadiness should be all you need for recoil control.

Turns out you can make it a 1 - 2 burst kill at pretty good distznce
Should’ve just made the gun a battle rifle and increased the damage to be a 1 burst but slow handling and ads speed

I use it in mw2 and I'm pretty decent it got a good damage Slightly more than the m4 and a good range and recoil control
