Soldiers used wristlets during WW1 because it was easier to look at your wrist and have both hands free than open your coat and tunic and grab your pocket watch and have your hand busy. Also, they needed to be able to know time at a glance to coordinate attacks and other operations.
in fact on d day everyone was ordered to sync there watches in order for the allies to launch there troops all at the same time and wrist watches were seen as more convenient like in ww1. I was a sailor myself and I had a wrist watch that lasted me my whole 3 years of service and its been through some muddy shit I have a pocket watch now I wear it more for formal events but I mostly wear my wrist watch at work.
The single looks much better going under the vest instead of thru the button hole. The other styles just look ridiculous anyway whether thru hole or not
I'm surprised you didn't mention the fifth pocket (usually above and slightly inside the right front pocket) on many pairs of trousers that is designed for holding a pocket watch when a vest is not worn.
Tip: When closing a Hunter case, don't "snap" it against the latch--this will eventually wear it out. Instead, before closing, press the latch release to the opening position, the close the cover and release the latch to hold the cover closed. Those who do it this way are recognized as the *cognoscenti.*
I know the video is 5 years old but very informative! I just got into pocket watches and antique clocks. I wear the pocket watch as a pendant. Inspiration is from dark cloud 2 Maximilian, the main character wears it like that so I just do it too. Seems pretty useful and looks so cool! It always grabs people's attention.
I've been interested in getting my first pocket watch for a few months now The problem I have at the moment is that I mostly use modern urban clothing, so I'll have to see what I can improvise from that
Same situation here but I'm just going to rock it with my urban clothing. It's such an unique style if you have a pocket watch in your jeans don't you think?
You don’t need to wear vintage or classy clothes to wear a pocket watch. I walk around with jeans all the time, and it looks great with the chain hanging out. Street thugs try to mimic the look of pocket watches by wearing just a chain, but you can’t beat the original.
Well if you wear jeans that second smaller pocket on the right side was made to hold pocket watches for the working class so you can wear a pocket watch with jeans
Question. I have a new pocket watch I don’t know much about them though. I was wondering if when I sleep do I keep the watch ticking any wind it again in the morning? Or do I sleep with hands stopped completely during the night and then I just set the time when I wake up? I just wanna make the battery last as long as I can make it 😅
my granfather recieved a gold pocket watch with a gold coin when he retired from the railroad after 50 years of work , he worked 16 hour shifts through WW2 my brother got the watch and coin because he was named after my grandfather, darn it
I have around 60 nice wrist watches, but have recently started collecting pocket watches. Just like the old time feel and in the case of vintage pocket watches...the history involved. My most recent ( just received it yesterday), is a Patek Philippe. I really like this watch and it will most likely be my go to pocket watch. Cheers, Lunger
1 year late, but that’s a lot of watches! I would be overwhelmed with that amount of watches. But it’s really interesting to have so many wrist watches. How is your pocket watch collection going now? Oh, and do you ever end up wearing a wrist watch and a pocket watch simultaneously?
That wasn't a double Albert - that was a single Albert looped over a waistcoat button. Double Alberts have two chains, attached to a centre bar that goes through a waistcoat button-hole. Anyone fatter than you wouldn't be able to wear a single Albert as a double.
I got soo scared I'm not gonna lie, I have a new birthday pocket watch and it comes with a chain. It's like a normal pocket double chain and there's 2 on each side and I saw you only have 1. I got scared because I didn't really see the clip I had which connect to the chain. I realised it's just too small to see but I think it'll work.
For some reason there have been many pocket watch videos popping up lately. Do all these guys think only guys wearing vest have pocket watches?? There are many more men wearing ‘jeans’ with ‘watch pockets’ and watches work great there
Is the watch he's using here a mechanical? I saw the opening in front but when I've search this watch it says mechanical but then replaceable battery as a watch power source. I got confused.
*behaves like he knows a lot about men's fashion* *wears tie clip with waistcoat* for those of you who don't know, a waistcoat keeps your tie neatly tucked in place so that it doesn't flap around, especially with the wind. Although that wasn't the purpose of the waistcoat, that is one of the things it does. Now, the tie clips sole purpose is to keep your tie from flapping around, it was invented when people stopped wearing waistcoats so often, so wearing a tie clip with a waistcoat is double redundancy, and it demonstrates that your knowledge of classic menswear is basically limited to "more accessories = more better"
I wear a pocket watch daily. I cannot fathom hanging a chain from my button. Absolutely not. Also, the Albert... is not an Albert. I wear a double Albert and again, cannot fathom hanging a chain across my button. That is crazy. This is terrible advice.
Yeah I made this video like 4 years ago lol so there are a few things I’ve learned since then. And technically it’s not a “pin” per say but hey it doesn’t matter haha thanks for the comment!

That is...actually very interesting, I did not know about this before. Well, you know what they say. The more you know.

I have my Grandfather's Omega pocket watch. Circa 1923. It still runs and keeps good time. I don't wear it though. Don't want to break it
Chain goes through the button hole, not on the button. This was/is to make it more difficult to pickpocket.

I love the pocket watch.

There is a special pocket in your jeans for pocket watches. So I mean you don't need to think of what time period you look like.
Well if you wear jeans that second smaller pocket on the right side was made to hold pocket watches for the working class so you can wear a pocket watch with jeans
They haves'a Sheath fors'a Pocket Watch.
Hi Nico, you did a great job explaining the pocket watch.
R Gonzales thank you! I'm glad you liked it and I appreciate you taking the time to watch it!

Cool explanation on how to wear it.
What brand hat are you wearing?
A tie bar with a waist coat?
Good stuff bredren 👍🏾
Thanks for sharing
is there any way to put the watch into an inner pocket?
What if your not wearing a waist-coat??
my granfather recieved a gold pocket watch with a gold coin when he retired from the railroad after 50 years of work , he worked 16 hour shifts through WW2 my brother got the watch and coin because he was named after my grandfather, darn it
What pocket watch are you using in your video. It looks very nice. Very informative video too by the way.

Great info🎉
When the wrist watch was introduced, men did not take to it at once. Some thought it looked a bit woosie. But WWi put an end to that reluctance.

He could only just get the watch out himself.
What make and model is your pocket watch?
James Michael, don't know model#

looking good brother
They switched to wrist watches to save their lives, I want to switch to a pocket watch because my wrist gets inflamed with wristbands for some reason.
Well my pocket watch that I just got today (was pretty cheap) has a necklace chain. It is a bit too long to wear as a necklace I feel, any ideas?
Hey Nico, is this watch a true mechanical, needing a wind to get it functioning all the time?
i’m penetrating your mother michael
you will drop the chain with the double once............because I see you hook on the button not very careful
How did you change the batteries?
Theyre mechanical they dont need a battery
@@dylancarrick5239 there are also ones with batteries
@@mikaelhaapala If you are going to buy a pocket watch it has to be mechanical. A pocket watch with a battery is wrong.
Is the watch he's using here a mechanical? I saw the opening in front but when I've search this watch it says mechanical but then replaceable battery as a watch power source. I got confused.
Got me tripping out as soon as I click thanks
It's a James Michael pocket watch.
What hat are you wearing?
Hi nice job
I have big ben pocket watch
man the focus of the filming is on poiiint dog
Once again another American trying to tell people wrong information about pocket watches

Your video quality would be much better if you cleaned your lens or focused it better. Blurry is not cool.
Damn, lookin fly
The main requirement for wearing a pocket watch is a waistcoat. If you don't have one of those, the methods of wearing it are meaningless.
You're narrow minded.
@@Beowulf_98 In your opinion you mean. and your point is what?
I disagree. I just put it in my jean's pocket watch-pocket and don't even use a chain.
Other ways are wearing in a front overall pocket. Or one of the chest pockets of a work style shirt. Or in the lower pockets of a guayabera.

Had to scroll way too long to find this comment.
You're wearing a tie pin under a vest. It's stupid
Yeah I made this video like 4 years ago lol so there are a few things I’ve learned since then. And technically it’s not a “pin” per say but hey it doesn’t matter haha thanks for the comment!
