An oil substitute for recipes you need to maintain moisture in, is apple sauce. Especially in baked or sautés, it does not steam off as much, and gets a bit sticky so it makes a good binder as well. Zucchini (green or yellow, grated) also works well, it has a lot of moisture and is neutral in flavor.
Ok you guys probably are more used to tegu and other lizards, but- Peter eats EXACTLY how my savannah, Clawdius, eats. There is no chewing. Just down the hatch. Also does the same face wipes to break up food or clean his face (he usually makes a big mess with hornworms). So I recommend feeding them in pre cut chunks or you get a lot of mess. They are mostly insectivores but do love eggs and other stuff like fish. They don't normally eat veggies but I think it was fine in this case. They are quite prone to overfeeding. I trust my monitor but I still feed him with a dish and tongs. He can get into eating and we don't want any finger accidents because he doesn't let go of things in his mouth and his teeth and bite force are no joke. Idk if it's just him, but he loves squishy shoes like flip flops. He carries them around and thrashes them. Can't wait to see Peter's video! I feel like this species isn't well kept as pets for the most part so I don't usually recommend them to people. But they are quite fun and intelligent creatures.

Tip for easy peeling hard boiled eggs! You want to get as many cracks into the shell as possible while they’re still warm, so that while they cool the egg shrinks from the shell and water fills in the empty space (at least I think that’s why works). I find the easiest way to do this is under a cold running tap gently tap them all over on the base of the sink before putting in the bowl. You don’t need to be super aggressive lots of smaller cracks works way better in my experience
Easiest way I've found is to make sure your water is boiling BEFORE you put the eggs in it. Since I started doing that, I've not had an issue with peeling them. That's for store bought, not fresh eggs.
Yes! I tap the top and bottom of the egg on the counter, then gently roll it between my hand and the counter *while still warm* and usually the shell slides right off. Some people swear by adding vinegar or baking soda to the water before boiling, but I usually don't bother🤷♀️
Pro tip: Turn your sink on to as hot as you can. Take your boiling pot straight off the stove and put directly in the sink under the running water so you've got overflow. Gradually turn the water to cold over the course of 30-45 seconds, then turn off and drain. Leave the eggs in the pot, and simply shake so they hit the pot and each other. Then pull each one out and peel. The shell peels off easily, and the egg will still be nice and warm on the inside.
The life-changing advice I got about hard-boiling eggs: "older" eggs are easier to peel! I always had trouble because I always went and bought the eggs right when I wanted them, rather than buying them a week or two ahead of time. 😊
I never have trouble with peeling eggs, I always been taught to shock them for at least a solid minute under cold water before peeling them and it works. Just had eggs this evening and they were fresh.
You can also try doing them under running water. My family always does it in the sink with the water running just enough that it makes a solid stream instead of dribbling and you can use that to help separate the shell from the eggs when you need to be extra gentle
This works for me every time. Make sure your water is boiling BEFORE you put the eggs in it. Since I started doing that, I've not had an issue with peeling them. That's for store bought, not fresh eggs.
Bit more niche hack. I steam eggs in my pressure cooker. I have never had trouble with a single egg since doing that. I used to do the older egg thing but still like half of them would end up mangled.
My grandma for some reason hated calling them deviled eggs and instead called them fluffy eggs. I’m not required to say that but it’s ingrained into my brain.
Quick tip to peel boiled eggs. Run them under water as you peel. Once you start peeling, the water gets into the egg and helps separate the membrane from the egg, making peeling much easier.
