- Senator John F. Kennedy's wife Jacqueline Kennedy on the program ''Home''. Host Arlene Francis tracked Mrs. Kennedy's daily rounds as a dutiful Georgetown housewife.
I love how polite and intelligent Jackie was. Her soft and calmed voice is so so sweet to listen. RIP Jackie and John.
Having been almost an adult at the time the world lost Kennedy I find this footage absolutely exquisite. Thank you for your collecting.

Some remarks here about Jackie are unkind. You have to remember, she was quite shy and being a private person did not enjoy the limelight. She put herself out there in support of her husband, who she loved dearly. She also happened to be an extremely intelligent person, well read, poised and spoke several languages fluently.
Oh, another ass heard from. Some day the mother ship will return and bring you all back to your planet and peace will finally reign on earth. Looking forward to that day.

A friend of mine met her many years ago (probably the ‘80’s) in NYC and said that Jackie was very polite, but my friend knew that she didn’t really want to be bothered talking to a complete stranger (and, of course, it’s hard to blame her).

Loved Jackie and Arlene Francis, especially when the later was a panelist on "What's My Line," hosted by John Daly on CBS. Brings back good memories.
Arlene Francis was such a multi faceted person. She was a marvelous singer dancer actress interviewer journalist TV host wife and mother. She gave wonderful parties apparently with a superb mix of celebrities artists and politicians. I love watching anything she is in as I do President and Mrs. Kennedy. This program and ones like it were very popular in this era. Especially as most women were homemakers and these shows were daytime viewing.

In my opinion, the 50's were the pinnacle of American society. A time when elegance, intelligence and manners ruled the day.

I have this profound sadness seeing this....sad that he was killed. With all his now known faults, I still wish he'd lived out his life. Which makes me wonder how our world's path would have been altered.
Arlene is truly trying to "get blood out of stone" with Jackie....Jackie seems so guarded with her words while on camera...which is the sign of a very smart woman.

And yet she was a journalist-editor and expected the same thing from her clients as Arlene. It's kind of a contradiction that I've never understood about her.

This was a very difficult task for Jackie Kennedy, she was a very private person and married a politician. She became more comfortable as time went on with being in the public eye. Jackie loved JFK and did everything to help him politically and personally. She was only 31 years old when Kennedy took office and was widowed at 34 under horrific circumstances. May they both Rest In Peace.

JFK looks like a teenager here. By 1963, just 6 years later, he had aged enormously.
Poor Jack always looked young and thin because of his illness. Even before he became president, LBJ would make fun of young Jack because of the way he looked.

This is such an interesting glimpse into JFK's incredible political growth, JFK and Jackie's early relationship and the era in general. I've recently become intrigued by JFK and have been reading several books on the subject and this 'Home' appearance shows how nervous and uncomfortable they were--even JFK whom we remember as the idealistic and charismatic speaker. JFK didn't like PDA and they were very private but here you see how they are so separate. Jackie's distaste of sharing their personal life and trying to create a certain image of being "typical' yet still ideal Americans is palpable (she stated in her yearbook that she didn't want to be a housewife) and JFK is only confident while answering political questions.
Jackie said the White House years were the best in her marriage and it's easy to see why: over 6 yrs. they melded together and became a stronger couple and stronger people. Arlene's questions regarding Jackie's traditional wife/woman duties (do you cook? make him breakfast? run errands? press his suits?) show how much things have changed!!
It's hysterical how Arlene keeps pointing out the cheesiness of the 'Daily Routine' spot: where is everyone in Georgetown, it seems desolate. Do you know the cleaner's name? Do you ever have someone go with you? Are you on good terms with the butcher, does he give you more?

There's a lot of opinions flying around here which I will not comment upon. My only comment is that I appreciate being able to see something of them, when they still had their futures ahead of them, before history stepped in.
I wish classy women on TV would come back in style.

I saw in one of the documentaries done last year for the 50th anniversary that she had suffered a miscarriag earlier in 1963 and the Texas trip was her first outing since the loss. Added more poignancy to the events for me.
NouCoo She lost a baby boy Patrick in August 1963. The baby was born premature and only lived a couple of days.

Interesting to note Jackie on her "casual" morning walk is wearing a brand new deep red wool Pierre Cardin designer suit made in Paris, later worn for official duties in the White House. This is actually a famous suit, now owned by the JFK Library & Museum and lent in recent years to other institutions for public display.
Also interesting to note Arlene looking a bit frumpy here -- she soon adopted more stylish hair and dress styles and looked fantastic in the early to mid 1960s on "What's My Line." Younger than she looked here at almost age 50. Jackie was 27 here, so almost half Arlene's age. In fact, she and Jackie's mother were exactly the same age.
Everyone adored Jackie. I am Canadian and loved her. And the gracious,lovely Arlene Francis.

The culture was more refined and dignified back then. There were higher standards of public dress and behavior/decorum across the board not just for the upper class like here.
Haha this is kind of awkward because Arlene is trying so hard to keep filling the silences, because it's her job. But Jackie doesn't have much to say, so she just answers "yes" or "no" and then Arlene scrambles around trying to think of another question. Arlene's awkwardness is very apparent at this moment when she coughs 😅6:08

I found it interesting when JFK talked about the increasing responsibility of the vice president since he may have to succeed the president at any time, since 6 years later, his VP would have to succeed him.

She's probably in her first trimester in her pregnancy with Caroline just seven months after giving birth to a stillborn baby girl they would've named Arabella.
She looks so chic, polished, classic and modern-- even by today's standards! Way ahead of her time! Especially in the frumpy 1950's.
Jackie seemed so maternal and loved kids.
Interesting trivia - this was April 3, 1957. Caroline was born later that year on November 27, 1957.
I am watching this video in our times of enormous conflicts and president Kennedy could have been talking to each of us about our own responsibilities as citizens of the country and from what I see we are just a big failure. I hate the stupidity of division and the horrible lies and how little we are caring for the well being of our country.

He put on morning programing with the " Today" show and put Steve Allen's late night program on nationally as "The Tonight Show", both of which are still on the air, today. Pat wanted a noon-time program which is this "Home" show which Arlene Francis hosted, but it didn't last for long.

Everyone saying Jackie hated the limelight is delusional. She loved it, which is why she married JFK. She may have come across as shy but that was pretense in order to appear humble, docile, feminine, wifely, and relatable to the average housewife - the latter, housewife, is something she swore in her school yearbook she would never be. She had disdain for the average housewife, who she was wooing during these interviews. She saw herself as more elevated than those women. Sorry if that bursts anyone’s bubble.

At about the 4:05 mark, Arlene asks, "Have you 3 gables on your house?" I was expecting Arlene to then quip, "We have three Gabels at _my_ house!" LOL! (Her husband, Martin Gabel, son, Peter Gabel, and herself, occasionally known as Mrs. Gabel, even though she did not use Martin's last name professionally). Perhaps it was Jackie's "that's not my house" answer that made her decide not to say it, or maybe I'm imbuing her with more of her _What's My Line?_ co-panelist, Bennett Cerf's punny humor than she really had! ;)

It was very sad day in Israel too. People were quiet and upset, as they listened for hours, to the radio, read the newspapers, and looked at the painful pictures, of the US President, being murdered...
So tragic how cruel was the fate of other members of family Kennedy.
