To the question “Is there such a thing as free will? Sri Ramana Maharshi asks: Whose will is it? So long as there is the sense of doer ship, there is the sense of enjoyment and of individual will. But if this sense is lost through the practice of self-enquiry (Vichara) and one becomes self-realized the divine will act and guide the course of events. He clarifies that free will holds the field only in association with individuality. As long as individuality lasts there is free will. All the scriptures are based on this idea and therefore advise us to direct the free will towards right goals.

Yes absolutely. It is self defeating for "me" to tell myself I have no free will.
Better to focus on the teachings that there is only "one" consciousness, to contemplate on the sense of separation... which should gradually make the rest obvious.
Teachings on absence of freewill are meant perhaps to reduce the resistance to life... but for anyone who has trauma and/or lifeling depression or anxiety... it will further dissociate them. Their ego / mind will grasp onto this concept in order to protect oneself from life which is seen as threatening (especially social life), so the individual may disengage from life or even disengage from healing altogether... which is pretty tragic.
Focusing on the absence of separation, I think is more healing and less problematic. In my experience, some glimpses here and there, it made me feel more connected, and sometimes even brought this joy. you start smiling when you realize, you're looking at yourself.
Like Francis Lucille said, then it's not saying there is no me, or not a body. But the body expands, its definition changes.

Recently I lost someone who was very deeply close to me. The moment after I was told he had finally passed, and to my precious surprise, I was left with the most beautiful, sweet emptiness, one that I hoped would always be there to return to.

purusottama das who is asking the question ?

purusottama das: Science have just now begin to recognise these questions as valid. If and when Science discovers the answer, we can have ready made, logical answer.
Until then, we can either form our own convinient opinion or strive to find out answer by following Masters. Not sure if success is guaranteed
