I'm not a big fan of the Parker 51. It's not a bad pen, but just doesn't have the look I prefer. But you've turned this one into a real beauty. Like WaskiSquirrel, I don't mind battle scars. As long as they don't interfere with function, I almost prefer them on pens I intend to keep. But I always removed them on pens I intended to give away or sell. I don't have the vision or the hands to do such work now, and I doubt I could ever do work at quite this level. It really is beautiful. Honestly, when doing something for a customer, they almost always wanted the restoration done so the pen would look exactly as it did when it was new. I tend to prefer this myself, when possible. But your work makes me appreciate something new as opposed to something old. You do remarkable work.
I look at every pen individually then decide what i will do with it, so occaisionally i will leave "battle scars". Thank you for your kind comments James.
I was just thinking the same. Scrapping any 51 would be a travesty but this one really did look like it was destined for the bin. Great work restoring it and I'd be delighted to have that in my collection. I think the whole process, the "new lease of life", actually gives the pen a charming back story and adds to its collectability.
Stef, this is of course amazing work, hats 🎩 off! The fountain pen community is blessed to have you! I thoroughly enjoyed how I thought you were asking our opinion, but then halfway through the video, you show us your amazing work! I’m now very tempted to purchase some restoration materials to buff out scratches in my own set that’s on its way to me. Warmest regards
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes sometimes its nice to show before and after. Be careful with your "buffing out" as you could make it worst. There is a specific method i use which is laborious and time consuming. Good luck
Damn that cut in the video makes it look like that was a different pen than this. Very nice restoration work anyway. Maybe you can make a tutorial on how you restore such dead pens?
@@ayanmondal8995 I was once advised to avoid Parker Quink by someone working in a pen shop. The blue I now use is Namiki Blue. I like this because it is water resistant.
