    I was diagnosed with major depression, anxiety, ADHD and Dyslexia. I’m in Georgia and I’m trying to get on disability because I just can’t seem to keep a job. I’m also a single mom so the stress of all of that is extremely hard.

    I have Major depression, anxiety, OCD, and I’m pretty sure ADHD. I’m just tired of feeling like I’m not doing enough at work when I’m trying as hard as I possibly can. It just crushes me and I feel it’s taking away from spirit of life at times. Feeling like other people are trying to one up me. It’s just really distressing but I’m not ready to go on disability but at times I feel I am or I need a break.

    In 2019 I went on the disability as you did and got the treatment I needed. It was great getting the help. Unfortunately in 2021 due to the stress at work with excessive workload I have had a relapse.
    I feel ashamed, worthless and scared. Having to apply for a 2nd disability. I hope my job does not fire me.😥 I have a family to support. I have appointments scheduled with my psychiatrist and behavioral health therapist. Still on Cymbalta.

    I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression a few years ago and due the ill treatment from my manager after I informed her about my condition, I quit. I tried finding work for well over a month afterwards, but was turned down every time. I wanted to be honest with the potential employers and notified them what I was diagnosed with and was getting treatment, apparently that was a stupid thing for me to do. I did have a chance for a job in hospital cafeteria, but they wanted to put me on a super late night shift alone after a month. I told them I wasn't comfortable with doing that because of my anxiety. Luckily they were super chill about it. I had to move out of my parents place do to the verbal abuse from my dad, luckily I had a place to go. I was doing a little better, but as things have gone array in the world so has my anxiety and I often find myself crying, I don't say anything to my husband about it, since I feel he doesn't really get it no matter how many times I've tried to explain. I'm seeing my OB/GYN next month for an unrelated issue, but I may talk to them about everything else too. I didn't know I could possibly get disability until a DHS worker asked me about it when I told her about my mental condition.

    Me and my boyfriend are thinking about going on Disability. We aren't lazy people and have worked a lot but we are also victims of trauma more than once, and our emotions are out of whack all the time. Work makes me anxious and stresses me out way more. we both have PTSD, and BPD :/

      I was falling apart at work, and going on state disability was the best option I had. I’m glad I did it, however, I wish I had found my therapist either before my leave, or at least shortly after. Medication can help, but therapy gives us the useful tools we need to restructure our lives. Being able to work with a therapist without the stress of daily job is extremely helpful.

      @@journeytowellness7096 Thank you for this and i'm so intrigued about how your story came about & so glad things are going well for you now, an the office is closed in my state for COVID-19 so im gonna try to stick out work until then and get my documents ready thank you so much and do you think this information will be enough for us as a couple to get disability

    • @journeytowellness7096
      @journeytowellness7096  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rawr it is me Jac I didn’t even think about the offices being closed! I’m thinking they should have some kind of online process because people still need their disability. I mean, they surely wouldn’t stop seeing there are still people having surgery they need to recover from, as well as severe traumatic accidents.
      As for you and your boyfriend both getting disability, I don’t know if that would make a difference or not. I’m only guessing here, but disability is an individual affair so whether you and/or are put on disability shouldn’t matter.
      The best person to ask about things like that would be your doctor. If your doctor(s) think it’s best to be on disability because you (or both of you) are not fit for work, then that’s all you should need.
      Hope this helps and I wish you the best!

    I've only had one Job that had lasted 2 years. One Job that lasted 1 year. All the rest were a matter of months, sometimes weeks. I'm 40 years old now. Eventually I became homeless and at 25 and tried to recover by joining the military. Discharged as an EOD because I was suicidal after 4 months. After getting out still couldn't do the job thing well but eventually met my wife and had two kids. Everything seemed to be fine until I quit my job, declared bankruptcy and lost our home. That was about 2 years ago. Since then I've been struggling with depression more than ever. Diagnosed with depression and "extreme" anxiety. I've also since become financially reliant on my wife. To pull my weight I take care of my children, keep the house up and budgeting. I've lost contact with all friends and relatives. Been going to therapist for about a year. Not looking for a pitty party, but wondering if it seems that in your opinion if I'd qualify? I know there's a ton that goes into it but looking for advice and tips because even the thought of going through a disability claim triggers my anxiety and depression all in itself. Thanks in advance.

      @@dancer1 Thanks for asking. About 3 months ago I called one lawyer. In a nutshell they pretty much told me that unless I'm actively trying to kill myself, there's nothing they could do. "You need more inpatient admissions", they told me. This was extremely discouraging to me and I haven't been able to get the motivation or courage to try again.
      I'm very weary of taking medications of any kind, but finally decided to go with it. So far, I've been on meds for 1 week today and it seems to be working, although it's hard to tell because I was feeling good when I started taking them.
      I've also since been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and showing signs of PTSD.

      Wow, that must be really frustrating for you. I’m sorry to hear that has been your experience. I’m very fortunate that my psychiatrist is more than willing to place me on temporary disability for depression when it’s clear that I need it. I’m not sure what your exact situation is, but it may be worth trying to find a different doctor or psychiatrist who would be more helpful in that area.
      The only advice I have to offer is to emphasize how your depression is preventing you from performing your job and that continuing to go to work would prevent you from getting better. I really hope this is useful and that you’re able to get the help you need and deserve.

    What kind of work? What state (7:17)? In Florida here so not sure we have that. You can pay employer short term disability, and long term kicks in in like 90 days. Paid leave with health benefits from the start? when your doctor submitted the letter intitially how far out was you return date? Did Long Term Disability benefits kick in? How often did you have to fill out paper work for your employers? Did they ever terminate you?

      Wendy Gee I’m sorry to hear you’re going through such a difficult time. Fortunately, once the decision is made by your family doctor or psychiatrist, it pretty much starts right then. I honestly can’t remember if I had to provide something in writing to my employer, but if so, it should be able to be done via email or fax, even if you just take a picture of the doctor’s notice to put in the email. As far as getting paid while on disability, you’ll need to fill out some paperwork with your doctor and either send in the mail, or take it to the state disability office in person. There may even be a way to submit the documents electronically. I hope this helps and wish you the best!

    Thank you for sharing your story! But....What does “going out on disability” actually mean? You can’t just “get on disability” whenever you want. Trying to revive disability benefits is a verrrrrrry long, grueling, and discouraging process. Most people do not make it through to the point where they actually see disability benefits.

    • @Dinngg0
      @Dinngg0 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're referring to Social Security Disability, and you're right, depression is not going to be an acceptable reason and there is a 12 month waiting period before benefits can start and it can take three years or more to get a final decision. This video is about disability offered through an employer. Not everyone will have this benefit.

    • @colleendevaney

      @@Dinngg0 What kind of disability is offered through employers? I’m confused! Lol

    • @Dinngg0
      @Dinngg0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@colleendevaney Short term disability and long term disability. Pays your wages, or a percentage of wages, while you are out on medical leave. Short term is like if you had to get chemotherapy and could not work for a while. Long term is like you got paralyzed and could never return. Some employers pay for that insurance or you can buy it yourself if they don't offer it. Of course you have to have it before you become disabled. Social Security disability is insurance everyone has if they work enough to qualify. Same principle but it's long term only.

      I went on state disability (SDI), which is temporary, only lasting a year. Social security disability (SSDI) is federal, and is what you would need to get on if your doctor thinks you’ll be unable to work for more than one year.
      All you need for SDI is your doctor to agree that you’re unable to work due to your current condition. Unfortunately, ADHD isn’t recognized as a condition that warrants disability, however, depression or anxiety most definitely do.
