i think it’s so cool that you get to walk through the castle without your shoes on. i know you don’t wear shoes inside a lot of places in japan but it looks like you’d feel extra connected to the building, actually feeling it beneath your feet and knowing so many others in the past had that same experience

The vibes in this video were IMMACULATE! I think the rain made it a thousand times better! I actually teared up a little bit watching this as it reminded me of my visit to Himeji Castle about 4 years ago now. Missing Japan so much!

I am a Japanese national. What really gets me about foreigners taking too much time taking photos and videos for social media before actually eating dishes such as udon, soba, and sushi etc. They are at the optimal condition when they are served and should be eaten right away, not after 5 minutes of photo-taking or blathering about the food. This is an affront to chefs, too. My advice to you and other foreigners who are so keen on spending time on documenting their food, just eat when your food is served.

We went to Himeji Castle one year during a rain storm too... it was very empty thank goodness and we didn’t have to wait in any long lines in the rain. We missed the gardens though because we were just too wet from walking around the castle. Looks like I will have to go back and visit the garden, I love those stepping stones in water! Have you been to Matsumoto Castle? It’s my favorite. It could totally have to do with it was snowing the first time we went and snow in Japan is magical....

I have been to the castle twice now, the second time was during Sakura season and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. It was breathtaking.
I would highly recommend going back and visiting when the cherry blossoms are at their peak, go first thing in the morning though otherwise it gets too busy.
I'm so glad they have added handrails in the stairways now the first time I visited they didn't have those and it made it interesting going up the steep stairs in the castle. 😀

Himeji-jo was my favorite castle that I've visited in Japan & I loved the ability to be able to go through the castle & see the architecture, design & views. It made me think of how it must have been back in the days of the Shogun. During my last visit, I used Himeji as my base in western Japan & did many days trips as far south as Kagoshima in Kyushu using the Shinkansen with my Japan Rail Pass, leaving early in the morning & returning later in the evening. Appreciate your recommendations in Himeji, I'll have to visit Mt Shosha on my next visit & try Koba & More for their ramen.

I visited Himeji castle in 2017 and it was quite impressive. Unfortunately we were on a really tight schedule so we didn't spend enough time to explore as much as we wanted.
COVID while terrible really shows how peaceful things can be. The day I visited Himeji it was getting packed enough that they had to slow down the amount of people let inside of the castle to avoid overcrowding.

The reality of visiting these sites is much different than the videos. IRL it’s more crowded than Disneyland. I just got out of visiting the castle and temple today, and though the sites are beautiful, you have to wait in long longs and push through crowds of people for lines, tickets and generally just walking around.

Oh! very sad! You could have viewed the magnificent and beautiful Himeji Castle if it were a sunny day.
Japanese castle was built for protection from enemy samurai invasion.
So there are many protective devices and traps in it.
Himeji Castle is the best in Japan, I think.
