    ** Why the "Includes paid promotion" message? **
    According to german laws everyone has to mark their videos as advertisements as soon as there's a single "subject relevant" product, tag or link in it. Even if you didn't get paid for making that video. Sounds confusing and it really doesn't help the viewer to see which is a paid review and which isn't.
    --- The line of truth: Is this actually a paid review? Walrus Audio sent me the pedal for the demo, so technically yes, it's a paid review. (I update this line for every video).

    I got an M1 for Christmas and I'm loving the sounds I'm getting. It took a couple hours with the manual and either tweaking some presents and changing some completely, but I feel pretty comfortable with most of the settings now. It was also more of a fun process than tedious one. After hearing your demo, I might add the 3rd vibrato setting to my more intense vibrato preset. It sounded sick!

    I always come back to trem. A nice, fat harmonic tremolo is so much better to me than other modulation effects which I might use here and there but not nearly as much.
    I was interested in this pedal more for its lofi capabilities and envelope style interactivity. I just don't have a use for a lot of what's on tap here. If they did it with delay, short sample or even loop effects, I'd be interested, though admittedly there are some good offerings in that category already
    Btw, respect for not allowing your pedalboard to grow. A handful of effects that play well together is just better

    Okay, Walrus is a really great outfit no doubt but "the ONLY Modulation pedal" I, myself, can probably really say I may "need" or can "go to" on a daily basis is my Boss 1000 GT Core: especially if it can do chains and/or branched chains of modulations without even straining its CPU power.

      @@KrisBarocsi my go to "modulation" that Im always returning to is basic amplitude tremolo. As I run my modulation in "channel bridge" (4 hole amp, bridgeing both channels) and channels has different EQ, it makes for very interesting modulation effects, as also the EQ changes with the trem. In this way, harmonic trem is bit "over the top". Im not much flange/phase guy, more if they are in "false chorus" settings, which seems to be there very good in both chorus and vibe settings. Yet to try proper Leslie simulation (instead of fakeing it with trem/chorus combination). But Im not much modulation guy and my analog lightbulb trem (wampler latitude) is just looovely. Dont know, this is very interesitng combination in small footprint (what on other hand is issue, as it not so "hand on" as Im used to).

    I love analog flanger effect, if it have 4 knobs (manual, depth, rate, reg.) i can make it sound like another effects (chorus, flanger, tremolo, freq stock, phase ...) but the lack of mix or volume knob its annoying, because every other modulation pedal have one but flangers dont (except for the polychrome and strymon orbit).
    Sometimes flangers have too much volume, so i have to use ANOTHER PEDAL (clean boost or eq pedal) JUST TO HAVE A VOLUME KNOB!!!.
    Watching this video makes me feel the same thing with my analog flangers WHY DOESN'T HAVE A VOLUME KNOB???
    of course it should access that function via usb, but why do i need to connect it just to adjust that parameter...

    You play awesome by the way !

    • @KrisBarocsi
      @KrisBarocsi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Angelo, it’s pretty simple. Guitar - wah, overdrive, etc. - then mono in the M1 - stereo out of the M1 - stereo delay or reverb if you want to - one cable goes in one amp, the other goes in another amp. That would be the signal chain. If you have ground buzz or phase problems, use an isolator before going into one of the two amps. That’s it. Cheers!

    Seems like a great pedal with no doubt some awesome and perhaps unique settings that I really like. However, I can't work out here if you can only use one effect at a time, which I'm thinking must be the case based on only using one effect per demo.
    Seems to then really lose something here if you can't use two effects at once, as many guitar players would like to.
    As I'm typing here now, I'm really thinking opportunity lost to be a killer pedal and they've simply missed the boat. Pity that.
    Fine review.. Thanks. 👍😎

    • @KrisBarocsi
      @KrisBarocsi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey, it can do one effect at a time, yes. That’s not unusual though, it’s the same for the Strymon Mobius and that costs significantly more than the M1. These are not multi effects in terms of „having multiple effects on at a time“. It’s like having 16 different modulation pedals built into one enclosure. That’s very impressive actually. Especially considering the tone quality of each effect. You’re right, it’s an awesome studio / session musican pedal.

      I still think it's a shame 2 effects can't be used at the same time like Flint or Collider. Then again they are only 2 effects in one box.
      Brilliant for the studio, but I do think the evolution here will be in the future the ability to use 2 effects at the same time giving way more versatility. (They are likely listening now and taking on board the feedback 🙃). It can be done 🤗

    Great demo, as always. It's a versatile pedal, but the inability to use more than one effect at a time is a deal breaker for me. Some of my favorite tones are combining some of those effects. If I need to buy another pedal, or pedals, to accomplish that, it isn't nearly as good of a value/space saver as it may seem on the surface.

      could you give me an example of how you'd combine modulation effects? i personally mostly use one at a time, even though I could combine them as I have more than one on my board

    If you want even more modulation effects but with crazier sounds as well as classic, have a look at the Bitquest by Dr. Scientist. Same thing with the learning curve though.

    It's the only thing I've ever returned to Sweetwater. After 5 hours with it, I didn't have a single usable patch to show for it. Way way way too difficult to operate, not intuitive in the slightest. Returned it and got a Strymon Mobius. I could have done a gig with the mobius with 0 prep time, and I don't think another week with the walrus would have helped me. Worlds apart.

    Well, lets see...if you buy a Walrus M1, D1, R1, and ACS1, that will cost you $350 + $350 + $350 + $400 = $1550 USD, or you could buy a Boss GT-1000Core which does all the same things *and a whole lot more*, for less than half the price, at higher quality, and a lot less pedalboard real estate. And not only would you not give up anything in terms of flexibility, the Core is actually quite a bit more flexible than the Walrus Mako series quartet. Walrus makes some really good products, but their pricing is way out of line with the industry leaders.

    Tries to do too much! Has some great effects and tones, but way too complicated to use live. I've gone full circle back to simple pedals that do one thing well. Way simpler to use when you're trying to do a lives how! Nice studio pedal though...

    • @KrisBarocsi
      @KrisBarocsi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      It is complex, you’re right. That being said, after just a few hours of playing it I’m super fast with finding the perfect effect. For live situations this is more the „save your presets before the gig“ kind of pedal. That’s true. 👍
