1. Easy Question- Closed question (yes, no, number, usually a direct answer) 2. Open ended question- ( yes because who, what, how, when or no because who, what, how, when) 3. Keep following up with a mixture of open and closed ended questions depending on the tone. Practice with a friend, family members, colleagues and people!

I’m currently studying the art of questioning. questioning is one of the most powerful sales tactics you could use to direct a conversation towards a sale!
Love the advice of the WHAT or HOW questions. I never considered this, but it makes a lot of sense. I also get annoyed when people ask me WHY questions. It makes you feel like you have to explain yourself.
2 year late, but whatever. Why questions can be used in a way that works for you. You ask Why when you want the other person to defend you. An example would be "Why did you decide to go with our company?" Now they are going to defend the reasons your company was a good choice or maybe you're in an interview and can ask "Why would you hire someone with my experience?" and they'll go on to defend all the reasons someone like you would be great for the job.
It's weird I really like why questions. I understand how it can seem attacking but to me it makes me think why I did something it take interesting turn in conversations
This was interesting. In my motherland people typically start a conversation by asking "Where are you (originally) from?" Because a lot of people who live in the big cities where originally from somewhere else. Even if you say, "I'm originally from here" they usually want to know where your parents or grandparents where from.
Holy cow.. The note you made on 'why' questions is so true/significant! I never realized what the subtle difference was, but I remember being in college and just hating the question, "So why [study] environmental science?" I'd get all weird and squirrelly every single time lol (which isn't like me). Framed with a what or how, I don't feel like I have to justify the field's importance as a whole (on top of my personal ambitions). We love you, Dr. Lyon!
This is incredibly helpful for me especially since I’m an introvert and all I am used to asking are Yes or No questions. And no one ever told me how to ask an open ended question fire
I love these video's! I am a one upper and I am terrible at communicating. The worst thing is, I don't even know I am doing it most of the time. I feel like I am communicating well but I am doing the exact opposite.
Hi, Seth. Thank you for the encouragement and I'm glad the videos are helping and I'm happy you found the channel! New skills take practice. Just keep at it and your awareness and skills will improve.
Thank you so much! That was a very practical and straightforward advice. You really is a great coach! Someone who really know what he is talking about! I HOPE THIS CHANNEL GROWS EVEN MORE AND REACH A WIDER AUDIENCE. YOU DESERVE IT!
That was an excellent video. Conversation starters may be divided into conversations with an eye to eye focused physical conversations like at work or not present physically so as abstracting the body language part as the form of expressions or expressing can be a pivotal factor all the times that increases the effectiveness of asking question making the communications more efficient
Well congratulations, hopefully videos like this become more mainstream. There's been a steady democratization of intellect since the early 90's and it seems like the growth has been exponential but it seems to be growing only in certain cultures. I think TH-cam has been a good instrument in furthering the growth universally but sometimes I see trending videos and think otherwise :)
I hope we're all moving toward the advancement of helpful information and knowledge out there. I'm going to just keep doing my part and posting new stuff. Thanks again for joining this small but growing community. Feel free to leave any requests for topics you'd like to see on the channel and I'll see what I can do.
Hi Vilma. I saw this comment and the ones on the other videos. Thank you for the encouragement. I truly appreciate it. I've been working on this channel for almost two years and it is finally starting to grow more quickly. I'm glad more people will be learning these communication skills. And, can you tell from my videos that I'm a Christian? What gave it away? God bless.
Very helpful video, I'm trying to improve my communication skills right now because big part of my job. Being a excellenet communicator is my goal. Do you have another video about, stress management and public speaking? I would love to be able to learn from it Thanks AGAIN.
Someone on snapchat posted on her story: Ask me questions for my new youtube video! But the thing is, idk a lot about her, but at the same time, I do wanna ask a question because I am bored. But at the same time, idk if she is going to keep her questions anonymous, and if I ask a weird questions, my friend will see it and well... be weirded out
My girlfriend said that I Dont listen to her today. Additionally she said that I dont ask her questions. Additionally I asked compared to all her previous boyfriend she said Im the worst by far. Aftwerds she said never do this or that. Like every question I asked was just another answer to something I didn't take well. So how can I ask the right questions?
I usually try to have a few go-to questions "in my back pocket," as they say, before I have conversations. Before I meet somebody for coffee, for instance, I'll remind myself of what I could ask them about.
This is good in theory, but not in practice. Every time I ask someone the what or how questions, they still manage to make it as short as possible. Unless everyone who I've talked doesn't like me. Which is fair enough.
Rude? No. But it is good to aim for a mutual back and forth in conversations. After you've asked the person a few questions, give them the opportunity to take the conversation where they'd like or you can add your own point of view. If you ask too many questions in a row, it can feel like a "rapid fire" situation.
I searched "how to ask good questions" YOU answered!

I've heard Paul Rudd before. I've also heard Jason Bateman.
Average? I think he is VERY handsome, which makes his communication ability even stronger.
