    I teach medical students and residents at the University of Toronto. I'm always on the prowl for good educational videos to share with my students. This channel is definitely up there. Great summary. Although the video is only 13 minutes long, it's obvious that you've put so much time into making it a great, concise review. Thank you, sir! Just a note to who's watching this in Nov 2017, there are newer studies and drugs out on the market (PCSK9 Inhibitors).

    The best explanation on drugs I've ever come across of around a good 1500+ I've watched so far.
    I wish you do a video on tips to increase Glutathione and even how to increase mitochondria (via vitamins and other mechanisms).
    Keep the good work.

      Hey! Another great question! I use a whole shelf full of
      reference books. However, I’m not a
      student anymore, so I can’t really recommend that you use a shelf full of
      books. I mean what student has time for
      that, right?! Not me! I was usually
      lucky just to get through the lecture notes!
      If I was you I’d stick to the basics. -Get a big pharm reference book for hard
      questions, but then use a single basic review text (First-Aid, Lippincott’s,
      BRS, etc) for day-to-day studies. Put
      all your notes, tabs, acronyms, thoughts, and secrets into that one review
      book. Then, when boards come around, you’ll
      have that favorite, marked-up, tabbed, and personalized study book.

    Thank you very much for this video (sorry for commenting on all of them, I have finals soon and I'm very grateful for them).
    Would statins be considered first line drugs? Are the first line drugs based on their ability to increase HDL levels or on their effectiveness in reducing LDL? Also, if you're free, would you consider making a video on anti-hypertensive drugs? Please and thank you again

    • @MedImmersion
      @MedImmersion  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Muthoni! It's good to hear from you again! :)
      Yes, statins are a good "first line" choice. However, the decision is ultimately made based on the patient & their individual lipid panel, so it's not always so simple...
      I'll put an anti-hypertensive lecture on my to-do list.
      What are you training to be?

      Muthoni Mina Kimani --Sigh-- Oh, the med school days... They go by so quickly...
      I hope you do awesome! My advice is to keep your chin up and have fun. Do your best but don't beat yourself up about mistakes. You are only young once, so try to make as many fun memories as you can (even though you're in class for like 18hrs a day and going to be a student for like another decade!). :)

      Med Immersion This is actually my second time round, had to drop out halfway through the first time because I took the exams way too seriously and got too anxious to cope. Trying to take things at a more relaxed pace now :D

    • @MedImmersion
      @MedImmersion  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Muthoni Mina Kimani Hey, that's OK! It really doesn't matter in the long run. Maybe you could talk to your PCM about getting an anxiolytic for test taking? Some of my friends had to do this in school; it's not abnormal for med students to freak out about exams. -Med School is stressfull!!
