      Prada is beautiful... I lost my diluted tortie, Sofi, about 4 weeks ago to cancer. I love seeing the pictures of Prada.
      I'm sure you guys have noticed this, but for those who don't: torties aren't just plain black fur mixed with plain orange. The orange parts are actually striped like an orange tabby. They also can have mixed colors of jelly bean toes, both pink and black. My Sofi was just the most gentle-hearted soul. I miss her most in the quiet moments, after a long difficult day.
      Sorry, I just really miss her.

      I know it's not available everywhere, but so many places have pretty generous surrender laws. You don't even need to drop the baby off at the hospital, you can often do it at a fire station as well like @GreyBlueMe said. There's no excuse to starve your kids.

    Things you hear when you tell people that you don't want kids:
    "You'll change your mind."
    "You'll love your own."
    "But you'd be a great parent!"
    This is the reality of treating children like a milestone, or a faux-blessing, or a welfare paycheck.
    They are a responsibility, not a right, and they should be wanted, loved and provided for from the start.

    • @TheMiseryMachine
      @TheMiseryMachine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +248

      Exactly. I don't understand this pressuring other parents do towards people who don't want kids. If someone tells me they don't want kids I say that's great. It's better people realize they aren't suited to be parents instead of having a kid because "you're supposed to" and then you mistreat or neglect them.

    Their excuses are pathetic. I have a friend who has recently had her 4th child, and she has learning disabilities and a memory disorder. She sets alarms and writes reminders for everything. Her kids might forget their gym clothes for school occasionally but they're all well fed, clean, happy, and developing normally. There's no excuse for this, if they couldn't cope they would've been better off calling CPS themselves and might have actually been able to keep all their kids with some support.

He had injuries from having a dirty diaper on too long and other signs of severe neglect. His adoptive parents said that he never cried as a baby and they had wondered if it was because he had already figured out crying didn’t help. I also personally know someone(neighbor) who lost her infant daughter because she had left the baby in a car seat in her apartment by herself to go to work for 9 hours. (Now he sleeps 10-12 hours a night, amen) and I still cleaned him, cuddled him and played with him. People who do that to their kids have some serious underlying mental health issues or hard drug use. PPD is not an excuse to neglect your baby, maybe emotionally but not physically. PPD makes it hard for you to care for yourself and bond emotionally with your baby unless it turns psychotic then maybe that makes sense. Usually people get help before that. "He stated that he knew that if they didn't seek medical attention, their son would die."
    And that, right there, is why I am not at all in disagreement with homicide charges. They chose _not looking like_ bad parents over _being good parents._ The same thing many neglectful parents choose to do.
    Myself and my sister were both medically difficult babies. There was never any shame on my mother for coming in and getting that help. One of us had to go on specialized formula because we wouldn't take milk or normal formula. My mama didn't hesitate or worry about being viewed as a bad mother for not being able to feed us - not enough to stop her, at least. Getting her baby fed was more important than what the doctors would think of a mother who wasn't getting enough food into that child's tummy. Not caring so much what people thought about it actually made her a better mother than these two, who were more worried about being labeled bad parents than the lives of their own kids. To me, it shows that they weren't mentally mature enough for the kids they had.

If his reply had been, yes I do know if you don’t seek medical attention your child would die, but we didn’t know he was sick. That’s not the same but out of context it is. I’m not saying they are guilty or innocent. I’m saying that we should reserve judgement until we know all the facts. When I listened to this story I though at first they had been tried and found guilty and that’s why it seemed as though it was fact. They haven’t, yet people on this thread have already found them guilty. I think trial by media is wrong. this hits so close to home for me. we just had our 4th child back in September. our first little girl, she was born 6 weeks early and she had a very hard time gaining weight in the first week of her being born. I literally fed her every 2 hours and worked hard with her doctors to figure out not only why she wasn't gaining weight but why she was losing weight. turned out, it was just a simple fix of her formula. she had to be not only on a special expensive formula, but we had to give her extra scoops because she needed more of the nutrients. now at 8 months old she no longer has to be on that formula and can have regular amount of scoops. she is now my big, chunky, beautiful, healthy baby! I bet that's all that baby needed in the beginning but her lack of concern killed him. so sad :(

      My son was born very healthy but I desperately wanted to breast feed . He couldnt latch well - was losing and the pediatrician tried to tell me I was just a nervous first time mom and would be fine . I would not accept that got a second opinion and it was found he was tongue died and formula helped but he then developed colic so had to change to another very expensive formula - which was fine . He was much better with the right formula and I got rid if that first pediatrician . You're a good mom - realized something was wrong and worked with the right doctors . Fast food is typically an entry level job because it is TYPICALLY an entry level job that requires minimal training. I DO RESPECT the job, it is one I have had HOWEVER it is not a " skilled trade" as it easy enough for people with little to no prior experience to do. There are many ways to acquire skills, such as apprenticeship or schooling. Unfortunately the highest one can GENERALLY achieve in fast food is head line cook, assistant manager, or manager. If you CHOOSE to take a job that requires minimal training, you shouldn't expect high pay.
      I don't understand why people think they should receive the same pay as someone who spent time studying or apprenticeship.
      A 2 week training course is most certainly not the same, nor does it show any dedication to learning a special set or skill.
      Again, I have done these types of jobs, I wanted more, so I put in more effort to learn a special skill set. A skill set that takes time and effort more than a few weeks.
      As much as I like a friendly " would you like fries with that?" It hardly falls under a " special skill"

    I really appreciate that this channel places such strong emphasis on reminding viewers to speak out if they see something amiss. Bystander effect is so often based on the assumption that someone else will take care of it, or that your personal contribution wouldn't make much difference. I shudder to think of how many discoveries have been made that only came to light because of ONE person who knew and spoke up, and how many people would not have been saved had the one person in those situations just decided to mind their own business instead. Message to the public: Minding your own business is for THINGS THAT DON'T AFFECT OTHERS.

    The fact that the mother blamed everyone but herself and the father broke down crying paints a very specific portrait.
    I am honestly sick of both CPS and other family members and friends failing these sweet children. As someone who has wanted to be a parent all my life and was told I should never have children because of my chronic illness, it breaks my heart to hear these stories of neglect and abuse. I wish nothing more than that someone in these children's lives would have stepped in and done something. I always quote you guys when discussing cases like this and similar: "we need to do better!".
    I honestly also believe that if you abuse or kill a child, you should get life in prison without parole. The fact that so many of those who have a child's blood on their hands often get a simple slap on the wrist sickens me to my core.

    I knew someone that was "too busy" for her baby. She left him in a carseat and propped the bottle. He lived in that car seat until he was 1.5 yrs old with bottles propped in his mouth with a blanket holding it up. Never slept in a crib or had floor time. He will never talk or have a normal life due to the neglect. His head is very abnormally shaped from growing against the back of the carseat with his head hanging to one side all the time. Cps did nothing. I called several times and had others call too. No excuse to starve to death in the USA when there is free food and formula from wic, food stamps, food pantry, and pregnancy centers.

    When you mentioned her having to keep a log, it reminded me of some advice I give to new parents:
    Keep logs of when you feed your baby especially if it's your first. It's helpful in developing good habits, and if something bad happens or you're delirious from lack of sleep you've got a record. Do this when your kids get sick too, especially when theyre little. I've always been meticulous about it, and it both saved my rear and was helpful to the doctors when my youngest was hospitalized from a triple upper respiratory infection.

    CPS enters into a case when someone reports the issue to them, not because they had a previous case that was obviously closed. If that case with her daughter wasn’t closed, they could have possibly included & kept an eye on Silas. Trust me, I don’t care for CPS myself as I think they need to revamp their system BUT in this case, I don’t think they can be blamed either. Her Mom & friend SHOULD have reported them to CPS!

    • @joywalker4918
      @joywalker4918 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get what you're saying, but this is also their responsibility, because they already had a previous case. They had to know that she had another child, there's no way, they didn't know, and you can't tell me they didn't know that, because you don't know that I don't care if they shut the previous case, they are still responsible, because they had a case against her already that was already in the system, so there's no way they didn't know they should have removed this child.
      But you're also right, mom and others knew about this, and didn't do anything about it, so it's on them too, and they have to live with that, but they should have been alerted when she gave birth. I just don't understand that, and I never will understand it.
