One of the brothers wrote his biography and mentioned filming this scene. OF COURSE they rehearsed it! And it was filmed over the course of an afternoon/early evening with many breaks and retakes. For one thing, how would the cameras have known where to film if they didn't watch a rehearsal of what they were going to do? Second, you can see where the breaks are in the film. The performance is amazing enough without embellishment! In fact it is the best I have ever seen.
Cab Calloway grew up on a small family farm. He said as a child he watched the roosters walk and strut so later in life he copied that and his signature dance was born.

Fayard Nicholas was born 1914, and passed away in 2006; while Harold Nicholas was born in 1921, and passed away in 2000. They learned tap dancing and acrobatics at a young age, by watching and imitating the professional entertainers on stage. The Nicholas Brothers taught master classes in tap dance as teachers-in-residence at Harvard University and Radcliffe at Ruth Page Visiting Artists. Among their students were Debbie Allen, Janet and Michael Jackson.
@@tapduff Wow! There's a story there. Where and how did you meet them? Are you in a dance company? A young guy my son used to dance with was one of the dancers in Michael Jackson's upcoming show when he tragically died while it was in rehearsal.
Great choice Kimmy! What a star studded cast in this brilliant all black movie, Stormy Weather - Lena Horne, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway - and stand aside Fred Astaire - the Nicholas Brothers were the best dancers in the business! The choreography stands the test of time, especially at the end as they dance up and down the staircase. Inspired!❤ As for the cinematography, it's awe inspiring to see the level of ingenuity and trickery working with light and shade without the benefit of today's technology.
@@turdferguson400 no doubt you've seen the brilliant video with snippets of dances amalgamated to the song Uptown Funk? The Nicholas Brothers feature in that as well. I wonder if there was a white audience for the movie Stormy Weather at the time? If not, they missed out on a masterpiece.
My dad was a huge Cab Calloway fan, so I was exposed to his music along with Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman & others from the "Big Band" era. Great music and add the Nicholas Brothers? Amazing! Thanks for a great review Mike!
Did we run out of Aussies Kimmie? 🤨 Actually I love it, I had to watch lots of this type of 40s musical movies, and he made so many! So hip and so cool! 🙋❤️👏
😂❤🇦🇺 Stay tuned, Jen. I’ve requested several Aussie songs still to come. ❤ I have very eclectic tastes in music. Hello, Son of Buck. Brand new subscriber here, your reaction to Cranberries / Zombies caught my attention. Your honesty, thoughtful focus, and just...something about you... sealed the deal. See you again soon and may your channel keep growing. Oh, and how about Cab Calloway and the Nicholas Brothers? Incredible performance; considered one of the best ever; one take. So glad we have the film to preserve and honor their legendary talent.
The raised heartbeat while exercising ia followed by your heart rate being reduced below what it would be if you didn't do the strenuous exercise. One hour of increased heart rate then 23 hours of slower heart rate.
Yes, this was filmed in 1 shot. Yes, there would’ve been tons of practise before filming. You cannot deny talent though which is sadly lacking now. When you think of the higher standards that Blacks would have had to achieve at that period of time. Not being racist, just realistic. If they had made even 1 misstep… This was an incredible performance

One of the brothers lived to his late 70's and the other into his early 90's. Pretty good innings, I'd say.

Check out Cab Calloway in the blues brothers doing Minnie the Moocher. He was 72/73 when it was recorded and truly amazing.
