This song takes me back to a momentous time of change in my life. I woke up one morning and my wife and kids were just gone. I decided my best avenue of revenge against her was success. And i achieved it. I guess.I wound up in this mansion that was built in 1831. It was so amazing. And I'd wake up in that huge old house and start this album over again, always listening to this song first every morning. And it would echo through every corner of that big, old house. Every morning I would stand there and memories of the night before would flash by in my head, the house filled with strangers and the "friends" who had brought them. And I'd stand there and listen, more alone than I have ever been in my life or even knew you could be. Such a crazy time. I still don't know how I'm not locked up or dead.
So many Counting Crows songs are stories of my memories. Im so thankful for their music.

I was 15 in the 60's and was always surrounded by the great music of that era. By the 80's, I was getting disappointed in rock and other genres and started to get stuck in the past. But every once in awhile, particularly in the 90's, something as good as my musical memories would come along. Counting Crows was at the top of that list.

This song is literally the theme song of my childhood. I remember my mom playing this CD while she would clean the house, and this song always got my imagination working. I would always listen to it while she cleaned, and I'd imagine a party, with a confused host who didn't know anyone, a beautiful woman named Mrs. Potter that the host loved, a circus, and a desert with a beautiful night sky above it. Even now, twelve years later, this song is still one of my all time favorites

"The price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings", "We drove out to the desert just to lie down beneath this bowl of stars", "So I throw my hand into the air and it swims in the beams". If this isn't one of our greatest songwriters then there I'm at a total loss. WTF?? Duritz is a musical genius, he can turn a R&R phrase like no one else!!!!!!!

Not sure if this will make much sense but it does to me. I hadn't heard this song in years and back in 2010 I was going through really bad withdrawals from prescribed 20mg oxycodone . if anyone has gone through this they may be able to relate. after a couple days of suffering, puking, shitting, hot/cold flashes, I found an old cd, this song was on it and the minute i t started playing I felt this sense of nostalgia and as crappy as I felt, I felt this weird sense of euphoria and a feeling like everything was going to ok. I still get that feeling every time I hear it. it's amazing how a song can stir up so many strong emotions. To this day, I hear this song and I am transported back to that hot sunny day and that feeling of sadness mixed with euphoria sweep over me.

Maybe no song changed my life more than Mrs. Potters Lullaby
A shy college kid in January of 2000 who felt like he had to face the world to find his place. I felt like nothing had really worked out how it was supposed and I was nervous about a promise I'd recently made to myself about always being myself no matter what. I played this for the first time and they sang all the words I needed to hear that night. I replayed that album repeatedly (and louder each time until the campus could probably hear). I shouted these songs against the clang of electric guitars. I probably looked like a maniac but I truly needed it.
I love the verse: "When the last King of Hollywood shatters his glass on the floor and orders another I'll wonder what he did that for, that's when I know that I have to get out b/c I have been there before. That's when I gave up my seat at the bar and head for the door."
Looking back now, for me the song meant moving on from my reasons for so much self doubt. I'd been stuck long enough and although it wasn't going to be pretty, I had to get out no matter what! Despite many numerous attempts in the past, my life changed for the best from that night. I play it all the time when I need to remind myself that I have to get out because I have been there before.

This song holds more intrinsic value to me than anyone could ever know. Every verse hits my soul with a memory and a feeling from the past. When I hear this song I couldn't be any happier or feel any more pain, as it reminds me of the most amazing relationship I've known, that crashed and burned in flames that would make hell envious lol. But its a beautiful piece, and she was a beautiful girl inside and out... Every verse is like a razor perception that cuts just a little too deep.

This masterpiece truly has no ending. Adam Duritz really explained the way his brain works in this piece. From the beginning where he says, "I dream I never know anyone at the party, and I'm always the host". That's his reality. It's difficult to separate what relationships are real and what relationships are dreamed or imagined. I think even back then, he was trying to explain what dissociative identity disorder was like, through his amazingly gifted talent! The lyrics and vibe of this track resonates with so many generations! His words are poetic and paints imagery that plays through your mind like a film as the song moves along. This song is timeless. I just found it again on a 2021 series. Sung and danced to, by Teenagers. So yeah...Awesomeness!

Seen over 400 bands live. And they're the hands down most talented group I've ever seen. Worth the 5hr drive both times I was lucky enough to experience their talent. Gladly drive that far again.

No one could ever hate it. But, this song is a time. This song definitely made a generation. And, this lovely world is most officially dead. (If I could erect a time machine and go back to the 90s, I would.)

Listened to this song for the the first time when I was 21 we were driving up the Coast headed to Mardi Gras. My buddy and I must of played it 30 times. It’s such a great driving song.....

I love this song. After all these years! My grandson was offended by the "then your life is shame". He was very young. 22 now! The best walking song. Got that rolling rhythm.
    I am 65. Almost.
