    4:06 One solution for the bevel is to have 3 modifiers. The first one is creating the procedural text, the second is the bevel, and the third is the effects in a geometry nodes. I know it isn’t perfect, but it might work.

      It works only on few very simple fonts, and not perfectly. This is the reason for me to use some side programs ( CAD ) and export/import good beveled texts.

      Another option could be using the bevel (shader) node in Cycles. At least to get some nice bevel highlights.

    Ever since I've seen a video where someone was highlighting rotating individual letters in a line of text using geometry nodes, I've been searching for the node that had something to do with 'text' input. Figures the coders and programmers would come up with the term 'string' to hide it from the rest of us who aren't used to the term all that much. It's great that they have input connections to allow the sizing for line, size and such, but why wouldn't they have connectors for choice of font, justification, pivot point so forth, that a resulting group input can be even more customizable. Still, this is amazing. Thanks for sharing your findings!

      @@TheDucky3D If you ever find out about a way to transform individual words, that'd be fantastic. There's a thread on Blenderartists about advancements on this area and even a WIP patch, but it's still something basically unresolved.

    • @maotao2441
      @maotao2441 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This is the most important reason to stop me from using Blender for more motion graphics. Generally speaking, Blender lacks the kind of logic that you need to be able to control an effect's progress. In this case, converting string to text is cool, even making the text an array, rotating, bending them, cool. But, when you want to make this happen from nothing to being fully applied by each letter or word. Really hard. In cinema 4D, it's a basic feature.

    • @kyle-rr4uh
      @kyle-rr4uh หลายเดือนก่อน

      What I'm struggling with is just a way to link the string value to a python script, so I can populate the string with data from a csv. If anyone has any advice I'd take it with open arms, and thanks ducky for another great tut!

    • @andycuccaro
      @andycuccaro หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kyle-rr4uh The thing is, you need to enter into the Geometry Nodes Editor and find the String to Text node every time you need to change the font and other inputs, instead of being able to change them from the Modifier panel, like with most other modifier settings. The idea is that people create GN setups and then use them like we do with the default modifiers.

      video idea:
      most geo node channels r to advanced for my taste, they simply add nodes without really saying why they do what they do, could u pls do a video (or do u know a video) that explains the red geo nodes, i feel so stupid but my brain cant think why there r "normal" node or "rotation" node etc. they have no slider, they r just there, getting plugged before vector nodes but why?? i think this is crucial to fully dive into geo nodes, cause if u can think what the nodes do, technically its like working in sculpt or edit mode, all u do is moving verticies in 3D space...

    would love a video from you where you go a little in depth about technical details like "what Pc does a 3d artist actually need" cause I think that's one of the biggest struggles of 3d artists that just wanna create art and don't wanna research for days what hardware is the best for rendering and live performance. And it's also a huge investment so I would love a fellow 3d artist tell me what's actually good instead of some tech people throwing around with numbers.

      Also doing with geometry nodes it s a lot more helpfull also for not having insane geometry counts compared to the actual text that just makes a lot of geometry, so saving that with geometry nodes can save a lot of time and resources!

    Well, there is no bevel node in vanilla Blender, but someone called Blespace came up with a node tree that simulates it pretty well.
    Although I believe it won't always work, it's definitely worth a try:

      Its a pro 3d modelling software, you jave to be hotkey reliant to use it properly because its just that damn vast, the problem i agree with being there is how many options dont display their hotkeys out there

    ..
    ....the GN text handling is a long awaited feature and not only for designers and I hope this node system grow up to beat the old vanilla system ...
    A better remeshing mod., bevel system(💪2 dev. work on that/Bcon 2023/22) and a better handling of eadge vertex face attribute or GN Text in general would be a well needed addition ..But thats a long way I think..

    Looking promising. No bevel is a big problem. Do we have control over the spline control points. C4D has a nice feature where you can precisely control the number to match a grid fill to end up with text that can be distorted and have good mesh warping.

    Poisson - pron. Pwa-Sohn, its French for 'Fish' and is a reference to fish eggs
    America has butchered English, leave French alone!
    Love the video though, you are completely right, Geo Node text is what you really want.
    Note: If whoever worked on SofImage's text bevel / bevel tool can rewrite the code that handled corner collisions then that would save HOURS in making text for logos!
