    I still have my weathered, finely detailed RES, Royal Mail liveried Replica built version. I’m still happy with it. However, these look fantastic. I’ll definitely be looking to get one.

    Lovely model. They weren't proper push bull vehicles an additional driver rode in the PCV and had full control of the brake he also had a power selector which consists of 4 settings. This does not actually control the locomotive it displayed the power selection in the loco cab for the other driver to operate the power controller. When propelling maximum speed was 40mph

    Good to see matching rolling stock being announced as it’s been yeaaaaaaaars since they did them.

    I have just returned mine. The couplings do not swivel correctly and derail anything coupled to it as soon as it hits a curve.

    Great looking piece of rolling stock, it would be nice to see some yellow livery Network Rail rolling stock, the last item I remember was the DBSO and the Mk1 generator coach, a GUV & CCT wagon would be nice as this great livery has been ignored by Bachmann in my opinion.

    It would be nice to see Bachmann produce a 64' non-corridor Mk1 Second that could be also used to create 3H 'Hampshire' units and (using the 2 HAP motorcoaches) some BR 4 EPB units......

    I completely misunderstood this announcement, I thought this was a full on locomotive.
    I only realised it was a van when I saw the price and was like “no way are they releasing a new locomotive for 70 quid”
    My mistake!

    Its a shame the errors in the Replica body and roof profile appear to persist here. Let me guess, retooling work was mostly on the chassis? Although they ran mostly with the super GUV, you can see in the video just how poorly they line up with what should be an identical profile super BG. I'd have loved this announcement to go with my 90s parcels rakes, but on seeing the product, hard pass.

    • @TrainsandPlanes123
      @TrainsandPlanes123 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Where did they say it’s the Replica model retooled? This is a new tooling is it not, unless you know otherwise of course?

    • @Simon-Davis
      @Simon-Davis 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TrainsandPlanes123 I've owned the Replica model in the past to know its shortfalls, and have also heavily reworked the original Lima stock to correct well known bogie and chassis issues of their super GUV models to produce a RES rake what feels like 20 years ago, and probably really was that long ago! That body is identical right down to the roof ribs and squashed ellipse of the roof curve. The chassis looks like it is new to take pickups, or heavily retooled, but the body I would stake a months wages on being the old Replica piece.

    • @TrainsandPlanes123
      @TrainsandPlanes123 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Simon-Davis you must be right then……. Think I’d rather hear what Bachmann have to say about it myself and they call it ‘All New Tooling’ which rather dispels your myth

    • @Simon-Davis
      @Simon-Davis 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TrainsandPlanes123 Nothing mythical about it, the EFE model in the video even has exactly the same chassis steps moulded to the underneath of the roller shutter doors instead of being part of the chassis. The doors themselves are unlike those on the Bachmann super BG, which you'd expect to be the same given the real things were and Bachmann have tooled these doors up before. The design choices as well as dimension errors of the Replica model carrying over are too coincidental for it to be a complete new tool. If the EFE model does not have its roots in the Replica PCV, I'll eat my dogs hat.

    Although a nice model, it perpetuates the myth that BR Mk 1 coaching stock had cross-member ribs extending through the roof. I thought Bachmann acknowledged this anomaly somewhile ago. But now we have Royal Mail livery storage vans with correctly rendered smooth roofs contrasting with the newly introduced PCVs at each end with roof ribs.

    • @AokiNamiYou
      @AokiNamiYou 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The PCVs do have the cross-members though. They're converted from Class 307s, which had the ribs going across.
      If you look at the Wikipedia page for the class 307, it's the third image with a BR Blue unit at Liverpool Street, you can see the cross-members on the roof

    Interesting model; seeing as the real thing was once a class 307, could it lead to some AC EMUs? How about 307, 308 or, dare I say it, a Clacton 309?? There are examples of all 3 types in preservation..

  • @andrewhotston983
    @andrewhotston983 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Bachmann have developed a knack of making models that I won't buy. I would be very interested in a model of the Class 307 that the PCV was converted from, though.
    Sonic, Rapido and Dapol are getting most of my custom at the moment. I have only one Bachmann pre-order pending.

    • @modelrailfan37
      @modelrailfan37 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As a steam era modeller I agree. I don’t stick to my era always (which is era 2/3), but I don’t have tons of modern locos. It’s a pity that it’s been so long since Bachmann have announced a new OO steam loco (I believe the last was the Precedent which was announced in 2020 and released in 2021). If you model era 5, 6, 7 or 8 Bachmann will have been making lots for you though.

    I really can't see these models, nice though they may be, having much of a mass appeal due to the very specialised use of the prototypes. Although, as the vast majority of the popular ( and not quite so popular) prototypes have already been produced and re-liveried to death I suppose the manufacturers are having to go down the route of niche models just to keep sales up.

    • @thepacerman
