The #WesternMountaineering Down Booties are my go-to for winter backcountry hut trips to walk outside to use the outhouse/collect snow and I’d also most certainly bring them if I was winter camping in snowy conditions. Weighing in at 6oz for the pair, these booties are light as a feather and super, duper warm. Insulated using European-sourced 800 fill down, they are constructed with DWR downproof nylon fabric to ensure your feet stay dry and warm. The Toughtek sole offers some traction in the snow but in slippery conditions such as packed snow, you may have trouble staying upright.
The WM Down Booties have an elastic adjustable closure at the top to keep heat in and snow out and an interior ankle elastic for stability when walking & to help prevent heat from escaping. There is a nylon rand around the bottom of the bootie that’s made of waterproof, durable nylon. These boots compress down small so they don’t take up much room in a backpack. In an emergency winter backcountry situation, I’d imagine they would save your feet from frostbite. All-in-all I’ve been very happy with these booties and I expect them to last for many years.
