      *For a Quicker Version Use 2 bags of frozen peaches.* Add the sugar to the peaches and cook the same...it will create the same sauce and their is virtually no difference (be sure to buy good peaches). Try nutmeg in the batter, instead of cinnamon on top. It's a pretty simple recipe...hard to mess up...add what you prefer to it : )

    I just had to let you know, I have made this cobbler 3 times already and my entire family loves it. The first time I made it was at Thanksgiving. It was gone in no time. So I made it again at Christmas but in a bigger pan. It didn't last either. I made it a third time 2 days ago for my husband and me. Since peaches are not in season, I have to use canned peaches. This has not hurt the recipe at all. My husband absolutely loves it and tells me over and over again how wonderful it is. And he wanted to thank you for the recipe.

    • @emulahbby
      @emulahbby 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      B Slaydon when you used the canned peaches, did you drain them? And did you still add the sugar to the peaches?

    • @bslaydon7023
      @bslaydon7023 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Elandra Lee I did drain the peaches and I used the sugar called for in the recipe. Also, I use two large cans of peach halves and cut them myself into smaller pieces. It turns out perfect. I made this a few weeks ago and used a little less sugar (approximately 1-1/2 cup divided) since my Dad is a diabetic but LOVES this recipe. My Dad said it wasn't sweet enough. Hope this helps.

    After the cobbler was done my Grandmother made a vanilla sauce to pour over each serving. Yum! Regards to the dough she would make enough rolled out dough from scratch ( store bought dough will work - just roll out into a rectangle for an oblong dish) to place on the bottom and sides of of the dish, add the peach ingredients and then cover with the rest of the dough, Don't forget to add the 1/2 cup of water to the ingredients

    She made some really bad language decisions in the past but I truly believe she was genuinely sorry for her comments. Of course partly for losing a third of her following and remorse for how she made her people feel... white and black. I for one will still be using her recipes or variations of them in my own cooking. People are allowed to make mistakes it is whether or not you learn from them.

    My mom was a southern woman from Texas and that is what was taught to her. No one is born being racist or naturally speaks in racist tones. It is taught. This is the way she was probably raised being from Georgia (my grandmother being from the same state), and we just have to say to ourselves, "stop the cycle". She realized her mistakes in the past, and I am sure WE ALL have things that we have done or said in the past that we are not proud of. Unfortunately, because she was such an influential public figure, as they say, the bigger they come, the harder they fall. I wish her all the best in her new adventures and I have always loved you Miss Paula. Hope everything is going well for your and your family.

    Hi Paula, looks like we make our cobblers about the same. If I can't get fresh peaches I have used canned. I use 1 large can of peaches with the syrup. I have memorized this recipe because it is SOOOO easy. One 8X8 glass baking dish, 1 cup milk, 1 stick butter melted and divided, 1 cup self-rising flour, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (only because I think everything is better with vanilla), 1 cup whole milk and one cup sugar (although sometimes I will use half of this). Mix everything together. It will look like a very weak pancake batter. I got this from my Auntie Boo and when she made it I thought it was going to be a disaster because the batter was so thin. Pour 1/2 the butter in the baking dish, then pour the batter in, next spoon out the peaches evenly over the batter. Then carefully pour the last of the butter over them along with the syrup from the can. Bake at 425 for about ten minutes. Then turn over down to 375 and continue until done, a nice light brown. This is called magic cobbler (you can use any type of fruit with this. I have used all kinds of frozen berries. Just put them in a bowl, add sugar and leave in fridge overnight till all the juice is leeched out.
    This makes the most beautiful delicious cobbler. The flour rises and envelopes the mix making a wonderful crust. Please try it and let me know what you think. You can email me at djcmanley1951@gmail.com

    That’s similar to the old campfire cooking favorite known as the “dump cake”. A box of yellow cake mix, a couple of cans of peaches, and a stick of butter. Dump the peaches in a cast iron Dutch oven, dump the cake mix on top, cut the stick of butter into pats and distribute them on top of the cake mix, put the cover on the Dutch oven and set it on a thin bed of coals. I learned that one as a Boy Scout, over 60 years ago.

    Thank you for the recipe Paula. I always enjoy watching you cook. No offense but you remind me so much of my VERY proud Southern late grandmother. She was born and raised in Alabama. You're such a joy to watch and I'd love to have the chance to get to know you some day.
    I made something very similar that I came up with, before coming to your recipe, while browsing recipes on TH-cam tonight. I like to get recipe ideas from lots of videos on a particular dish and then come up with my own version.
    Here's what I did different. I used one stick of butter halved, half for the batter and half for the peaches. I used one cup of brown sugar in the peaches and one cup of raw sugar for the batter. I didn't have any fresh peaches on hand so I went with frozen. To the frozen peaches and the cup of brown sugar, I added a teaspoon of vanilla extract, a teaspoon of lemon juice, two tablespoons of cornstarch, a good amount of cinnamon to taste, and a small amount of nutmeg along with the half cup of water. I warmed this up on the stove till it was nicely thickened and bubbly.
    To the batter, I only had regular flour on hand so I added a half teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of baking powder. I only used 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of flower. I also added one egg as I'd seen on another YT recipe. I put it together just as you did, but omitted the cinnamon as I had already put quite a bit into the peach mixture. The results were absolutely delicious!! My picky husband even loved it!! lol

If you only have the baking powder, no baking soda, that´s fine too!:) I´m using canned peaches, as there are no fresh peaches here. And fresh nutmeg; buttermilk, whole milk, butter, sugar etc as that´s what I´ve got today. // The last 4 eggs of the 2 dozen, I made deviled eggs. All the other eggs went into a chess pie:) Thanks Paula Deen for helping me with having a Southern Thanksgiving here in Norway:) Am right off the sea, and remember your show when ya´ll had the dock on the water in the backyard:) The ovens here are different....so am watching as I write this....it´ll be done when it looks done,)

      I find it conflicting how FN removed PD but allowed a fornicating home wrecker to have her own show. PD admitted her mistakes 20 some years after the fact, and she suffered deeply. I suppose God sees ALL OUR sins, Not one greater than another. Too bad FN doesn’t see it that way. I rarely ever watch. PD taught me how to cook. And honey I love you as much today as I ever did. God knows your heart!

    The way I make it Paula is: First I use can peach pie filling, the I spoon out into a bowl the peaches trying to not scoop too much of the syrup with it..then add half the juice of a lime, about 2 t. of cinnamon, 1/2 t. of nutmeg and combine with the peaches..I spread soft real butter on bottom of the dish, add the peach mixture to it, then sprinkle the yellow cake mix coating it entirely, sprinkle n top sparingly cinnamon mixed with sugar and a pinch of nutmeg on top, also sprinkle pecan pieces roughly chopped, then drizzle melted butter on top. Then in the oven for 350 for 45 min. You can replace cake mix with store bought pie crust and do all the same rest of the ingredients except the pecans!

    I made one for my first time last night and it was wonderful. However, instead of two cups of sugar, I used 1/2 white sugar and 1/2 brown sugar and some cinnamon. I also used buttermilk instead of regular milk and you wouldn't believe the flavor!! Try it like that and you will love it!!

      This is the 3rd time that i have made this (first time this year) and my peaches were already simmering by the time that i read your comment, your changes sound like it would make this great cobbler even better. My mother is coming for a weekend visit so i have a good excuse to make it again. Thanks
      p.s. i add a teaspoon or two of watkins pure vanilla extract after simmering and stir. You might try that and see if you like it.

      Brown sugar is just processed white sugar with processed molasses in it. Try raw organic coconut sugar. It is wonderful and u won't need as much. Then just before the top browns sprinkle a tiny bit of the coconut sugar on top. Makes it crunchy yet sweet.

    I made this today and just finished eating some. It tastes really good and nice and juicy. I cooked it for 40mins and it still hadn't browned on top. I ended up putting it on broil for a few minutes while standing there watching. Never walk away when the broiler is on!! That worked great. My question for any of you is, can you use Splenda instead of sugar with this? I was wondering if the juice would be more watery when finished.
    Thanks

    HELP!
    I started making this but I'm just not as good at guessing like Paula is. I have questions. Can someone help me please?
    1. How many peaches did Paula start with to get the 4 cups needed? I think I counted 8 in her pot? @1:01
    2. How long do you leave the peaches in the ice water? @1:04
    3. How much is a "little water?" @1:28
    Paula answers the other questions I had @4:02
    4. How much sugar was that? @1:51 (@4:05 I just heard her say 1 cup of sugar)
    5. How much self rising flour is in the bowl? @2:47 (edit:@4:02 I just heard her say one and a half cups of flour)
    Thank you to anyone who can help me. My grandson asked me if I could make a peach cobbler and I knew i would find a good recipe on Paula's channel. But I want to get it right by knowing the correct measurements.

    First and foremost, I absolutely adore Paula...she seems to have a wonderful personality and a warm spirit about her regardless of what anyone else thinks. And yes, "Southern Cuisine" aka "Soul Food" has always been heavily influenced by African cuisine. And unfortunately, as psychmaj323 stated, Paula was unnerved to find out that YES she too had ancestors that owned Africans as slaves. The ancestor she found, was rather wealthy and owned over 30+ people. Reba McIntyre's ancestors did too.

    When it comes to peaches it's peach dumplings.wraping a large whole peach cut in half center filled with brown sugar butter and cinnamon, wrap in pie crust dough completely cover and seal it place in 13x9 baking pan .pour syrup of sugar water butter cinnamon you have cooked till syrup thickens .pour over dumplings bake in 350 degree oven for 35 to 45 minutes till dumplings are golden brown serve warm with vanilla ice cream on top in a bowl . That's how we eat peaches.
