Same. Most of family and relatives (including my parents and both my younger sisters) have always called me Jake. At work (I work at a radio station as an on-air announcer, been there for almost 25 years now) nearly everyone calls me Jacob and I announce myself on-air (during my program) as Jacob as well, although some of my regular listeners have now come to call me Jake. Growing up in my family and neighborhood we pretty much shortened or gave nicknames. Heck, everybody in my family called my dad June. His name was Charlie. He was a Junior. Junior became June bug with his 11 siblings and then was just shortened to June. I can tell how someone knew my dad by what they call him. His work buddies called him Red.
My dad, John Phillip, has the same first name as his dad (different middle names). Growing up he went by Phil. As an adult he got a job and his boss was Phil so he started going by John. When he met my mom my dad's roommate was also called John (they all lived in the same apartment building), so my mom started calling him JP. (Why he didn't say call me Phil, I don't know.) When someone called for him when I was growning up I knew if it was his side of the family/friends from childhood, my mom's side of the family/local friends (he grew up in a different part of the country) or work people based on who they asked for. Now Dad's voicemail greeting says "You've reached John, JP, and Phil. Leave one of us a message."
I call him Cooper, and often fondly remember freshmen year of college where we did tons of bonging and convinced our roommate to self delete so we could get straight A's. He didnt go through with it but every now and then i see Cliff O'malley and i think, man how is that guy still alive?
I saw screech and Mr belding and magic mountain but it was my first time visiting the park and we were so excited to get in that park didn't go up to the kiosk they were in to get an autograph now I wish I would have
This kind of resonated with me. I’m a Jonathan, most people call me Jon, which is totally fine. But I like when someone calls me Jonathan. It feels a little more personalized that someone knows my full name and likes the sound of it. I’ll never insist on it, but I appreciate it a little more.
@@gottfriedosterbach3907 No, you nickname people you KNOW, but "MP" indicates that people he KNOWS can also not nickname him. Double names are annoying anyway, and the average person will welcome the opportunity to have it shortened.
I'm the same way actually. When people meet me, they usually shorten my name though I prefer my full name. Parents and for some reason every serious relationship I have (on their without any pretext or motivation) they all choose my full first name to call me. But I'm known to a select few who know me by my other name. When I'm called this, I automatically know that they know my extended family. There's also a name I've been called at work that I absolutely hate but people will still call me this. So when I hear it, I automatically dislike them and will actively ignore the person.
First time I've seen a couple of guys sitting down, discussing how they want to be called. If it's in the ballpark, and no offense was meant, go with it. I'm not calling any dude by two names, sorry, not happening. What are you, royalty ?
My husband’s name is James, and he goes by James, but his last name is also a male first name, so people who don’t know him will sometimes call him by his last name, or call him Jim. It doesn’t bother him too much, but I always correct them, because his name is James. His families calls him by his middle name, though, which gets interesting at family reunions. Everyone is calling him Bryan, and I’m calling him James. 😂
My birth name is Michael but I prefer Mike, growing up as a kid my family called me Mikey and some still do 🤷🏻♂️ lol and when they are mad at me they call me MICHAEL! Lol
It's so funny how you guys talk about names. I only go by Michael as an adult, but everybody that went to school with me pretty much mostly calls me Mike. When I turned about 18 I just decided I really didn't want to be called that anymore and so I've gone with Michael for my whole adult life. That said, if anyone calls me Mike I just let it go, but if it were somebody that I wanted to be friends with or get to know better, then I'd let them know that I prefer Michael. Love these kinds of conversations!
My best friends husband is named Michael(called Mike) and their son is a Michael jr. Her son to this day at 28 yrs old is still Mikey too all of us, lol.
I get it. I don’t like being called Steve. A good way to tell how well someone knows me is by how they address me. Family and close friends know to call me Steven. If I tell someone it’s Steven and they still call me Steve I won’t go off on them, but we probably won’t ever be close.
im kind of this way when it comes to my name, but the difference for me is that ive went by my nickname for so long that it became the name that EVERYONE has called me since i was 10. i spell it differently on purpose but i have been "SteveO" (i spell it "Stev-O") forever. my friends call me Stev-O, my friends parents, my teachers called me Stev-O, the principal, my parents, my extended family, and even people that i didnt know but they knew of me referred to me as Stev-O. it went on for so long that it did not matter where i was everyone called me Stev-O by default, even employers. im pushing 40 now and live in a different town then where i grew up so i dont really ever see anyone that i knew "in my old life" so its a very weird feeling to hear people today just call me Steven. i dont get upset at them for it, but i do get upset internally because in my head that just means that the old me, the happier me is dead and it upsets me a little. its kind of similar to my mother as well, she has gone by two different names depending on who she is around (first or middle), one crowd/some family call her by one name, but there is a different set of people that only know her by her other name and that makes it easy to tell when/where she knows people from depending on what name they call her. lol
I really enjoyed this particular episode, as I am very anal when it comes to names. My belief is that a person's name is their identity and should be pronounced correctly, and in the case of yourself and Mr. Gosselaar, should not be abbreviated unless given the authority by the particular person being referred to.
My Parents had friends years before I was born, that would give kids nickname based on curses. My Mom was having none of it. She told them that is her name don't call her anything else.
I think people tend to just abbreviated anything they possibly can because they think by doing so you're on a closer level. I mean my name's Liam, I didn't even think my name could be abbreviated as it's an abbreviation in and of itself , from William. Yet, people still call me Lee. It can be infuriating when the abbreviation is a name all on its own
My younger brother’s name is Michael. We always have called him Michael. When he was in the 11th grade, he went to a new school and all his friends started calling him Mike. Right on through college he was called Mike by everyone he met. Now many years later he is known by his wife and everyone in his life as Mike except by family. He will always be Michael to us and we still call him that today. It still feels weird to us to hear people calling him Mike simply because we never used that nickname.
A lot of my older coworkers past and present have called. Me ellie instead of Liz like most do after knowing me a while. My cousins call me lizzie sometimes but ppl i don't know or like are not allowed to lol
Our daughter's name is Kimberly which we always called her that, not Kim. There were 3 Kim/Kimberly's in her class at school. If a teacher or someone called her "Kim," our daughter didn't respond. It just didn't register with her that they were talking to her so I get it. I'm somewhat the reverse. I went by my nickname The only ones who called me by my full name were the teachers and those that did not know me personally. If someone calls me by my full name then I think I've done something wrong. Mark-Paul is a cool name.
I was Mike until I was 16, then I told people I was Michael, and I was Michael from then on, unless you know me really well, and then I'm "Doc"...but if you call me that, you know my back story... and that probably means you're a friend, a brother, or a person who ONLY knows me by that name.
Can’t relate I do get upset if ppl say the wrong name or mispronounce my name. Aggravates me. I don’t often correct people tho. Unless we coworkers or aquatinted. I was 7 episodes in to Found before I realized who he was, lol. Now I can’t unsee it. Yeah I’m not that observant at times 😃
How you don't mention nypd blue. He was good on that.
good interview chris
It's funny you guys are talking about this because if I ever talked to him, I would wonder if he would get mad at me if I call him Zack :(
Zack Paul
@@vinyllpreviews9462 lol
what happens if someone calls him Zack? does he call timeout then break the fourth wall?
(Why he didn't say call me Phil, I don't know.)
When someone called for him when I was growning up I knew if it was his side of the family/friends from childhood, my mom's side of the family/local friends (he grew up in a different part of the country) or work people based on who they asked for.
Someone needs to explain nicknaming to Mark-Paul and Kristian
I think someone needs to explain it to you. Only sociopaths nickname people they barely know. You really nickname people you just meet?
@@gottfriedosterbach3907 No, you nickname people you KNOW, but "MP" indicates that people he KNOWS can also not nickname him. Double names are annoying anyway, and the average person will welcome the opportunity to have it shortened.
Call him Sir.
You're not call me Kris 😂
wow you learn something new everyday. i always thought it was his middle name.
Me too
Same here. So now I have to go and rethink all two named actors!
He is killing it on his new show never saw him playing a bad guy but he does it well
My husband’s name is James, and he goes by James, but his last name is also a male first name, so people who don’t know him will sometimes call him by his last name, or call him Jim. It doesn’t bother him too much, but I always correct them, because his name is James. His families calls him by his middle name, though, which gets interesting at family reunions. Everyone is calling him Bryan, and I’m calling him James. 😂
I've been calling him Larry this whole time
My birth name is Michael but I prefer Mike, growing up as a kid my family called me Mikey and some still do 🤷🏻♂️ lol and when they are mad at me they call me MICHAEL! Lol
My name MICHAEL some people call me MIKE OR MIKEY ° I would want to call him ZACK!!
RIP BIG LENNY!!
Never thought i would see this. Piss is everywhere. Just needs mopped unfortunately
Who will win the Ruby now?
@@ironman2326 Lenny said roll his corpse on stage and he’ll STILL be bigger and harder than Dale!! WHADDAYA THINK ABOUT THAT DALE???!!!!
@@banzairunner7860 He did say that🤔 idk tho, Dale's pretty jacked actually...But he's not the Tom Platz of abs either.
@@banzairunner7860 cookie cutters deleted my comment. Bunch of wimps. Still bigger and harder then dale as a corpse!
I called him MPG in school
Same as Jonathan auto-shortened by people to Jon immediately.
I understand his point. Take the show Dallas. Linda’s character was named Sue Ellen. Not one character ever called her sue or Ellen.
I get it. I don’t like being called Steve. A good way to tell how well someone knows me is by how they address me. Family and close friends know to call me Steven. If I tell someone it’s Steven and they still call me Steve I won’t go off on them, but we probably won’t ever be close.
There was a rumor back in the 90s that mark and the actor Jason Bateman hated overweight people is that true ?
I call him Just For Men beard coverage
Names are important. But hey, “words are trains for moving past what really have no names”… look it up kids
Nicknames seem less in fashion these days. I'm 55, and my name is William. But nobody's ever called me that. Always Bill.
im kind of this way when it comes to my name, but the difference for me is that ive went by my nickname for so long that it became the name that EVERYONE has called me since i was 10. i spell it differently on purpose but i have been "SteveO" (i spell it "Stev-O") forever. my friends call me Stev-O, my friends parents, my teachers called me Stev-O, the principal, my parents, my extended family, and even people that i didnt know but they knew of me referred to me as Stev-O. it went on for so long that it did not matter where i was everyone called me Stev-O by default, even employers. im pushing 40 now and live in a different town then where i grew up so i dont really ever see anyone that i knew "in my old life" so its a very weird feeling to hear people today just call me Steven. i dont get upset at them for it, but i do get upset internally because in my head that just means that the old me, the happier me is dead and it upsets me a little. its kind of similar to my mother as well, she has gone by two different names depending on who she is around (first or middle), one crowd/some family call her by one name, but there is a different set of people that only know her by her other name and that makes it easy to tell when/where she knows people from depending on what name they call her. lol
i always referred to him as Mark Paul Gosselaar. With a dope name like that you gotta say the whole thing.
I call everyone hey you to avoid confusion
I call him Screech’s sidekick!
I don't know him. I know his name is Mark-Paul Gosselaar, based on the credits. But I don't know him personally.
As long as he doesn't challenge the teamsters boss to a fist fight (YOU STAND UP)
See, IF I was his best friend from childhood, and I found this out I'd call him up and say YO MARK!
People who nickname people they don’t know are sociopaths.
Uuhhh that’s a stretch there friend. I have nicknames for everyone. And I’m a PSYCHOpath! There’s a difference!
As a gal called Katylee, I relate to this on a spiritual level
Call him *The MPG*
I think people tend to just abbreviated anything they possibly can because they think by doing so you're on a closer level. I mean my name's Liam, I didn't even think my name could be abbreviated as it's an abbreviation in and of itself , from William. Yet, people still call me Lee. It can be infuriating when the abbreviation is a name all on its own
MPG in da house! 🎉
Miguel
wow i always thought paul was part of his last name not his first.
Is he the TurboGrafx 16 box boy or not?
' I'll see you in detention Morris 💀
I just call him Junior (from his NYPD Blue days)
As a Michael.... no one is named "Mike" 😅
I was Mike until I was 16, then I told people I was Michael, and I was Michael from then on, unless you know me really well, and then I'm "Doc"...but if you call me that, you know my back story... and that probably means you're a friend, a brother, or a person who ONLY knows me by that name.
Zack was the one who made that show I remember watching it before school
Can’t relate I do get upset if ppl say the wrong name or mispronounce my name. Aggravates me. I don’t often correct people tho. Unless we coworkers or aquatinted. People spelling my name wrong offends me too. If I know you and you should know me it affects me even worse. Like how don’t you know my name. So rude
will do my best to refer to him by his name instead of "Sir" when i mention Found. No guarantees
