The whole thing opened with the monk scene and I was almost done already 😆😆 The little pan to his multi coloured socks with the tag sketch is so subtle but absolutely brilliant

I don't think many writers could think of new ways to get longevity out of a character, but Coogan does it brilliantly with Partridge. I don't even think the genius of Gervais could bring David Brent back with the same success. Classic comedy!
I think Gervais, Coogan and Atkinson are each at that level. As far as the actual characters go (Partridge, Brent, Bean), they have depth in that order, but the comedian genius behind each are essentially level.

Atkinson has always been a magician with breaking comedy down to the mannerism more than the dialogue, and Bean was the extreme case of that. His Blackadder pronunciation of "Bob" is another example of that, or various sketches in his two man Live shows with Angus Deayton

I agree with you that only Atkinson could play the role of Bean. I just don’t think the character is on par, with Blackadder, Partridge or Brent.

I don’t think it will unfortunately as if you listen to the 2nd series of the Oasthouse podcast he’s out of work in regards to radio/Tv Judging from Oasthouse being on audible & with the streaming of Stratagem it wouldn’t surprise me if Alan’s next content will be on Amazon prime
