- GREEK MYTHOLOGY: The Birth of Dionysus: The Twice Born God
A tale of how the Greek God Dionysus, the lord of Wine and laughter.
One of the most outlandish gestations in mythology. It shows the power of Hera as much as the birth of the god of revelries.
Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them.
This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience.
All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos.
There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries.
These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays.

I remember pulling a speech right out of my ass as I took my place behind a podium in English class in 9th grade, from the perspective of Dionysus trying to run for president.
I wrote nothing, prepared nothing, but I charmed my way into winning the presidency by way of the class voting for me as I had promised minimal interference in their lives, unlike the curmudgeons and warmongers who came before and after me 😂
All I had seen and known of him was that he loved drinking, loved the ladies, and sometimes was depicted with goat legs. Man I wish I had seen this all those years ago, I'd have gotten every vote in that mock election!
Great work! I absolutely loved this.
How fun!
It can be so great to explore perspectives and stories in strange ways! And what a classic Dionysus move to come unprepared and charm your way through!
Thank you for watching and sharing!

Dionysus is commonly known for his aspect of revelry but they forget about his aspect of maddness
So true friend! Thought we would mention it, it's a key aspect of course - but there is always more tales to come to show more of this side to the god!
- Lightbringer
@@livingmythology1405whit what happened at the olimpics It truly show how madnes Is still part of this god.
He is a healer
I once called Dionysus "the god of sex, drugs, and rock and roll." My classics teacher didn't like that very much.
I'd say its quite an accurate title for him!
- Lightbringer
Really? That's incredibly tragic, I made a similar comment in a paper for a lit class where I was comparing some themes in Thomas Mann's work to the dialogues of Plato (specifically the draw of youth, and how the old wise can be beguiled by longing for it) and the prof loved it. It's not only a reasonable notion, it actually captures much of the god and shows how relevant the idea of Dyonysus has remained across time and language.
@@livingmythology1405will you do dionysus and ariadne relationship?
I would like to see dionysus and ariadne as well.
Now that's the Hera we all know....evil and cruel and brutal.
Excellent tale and I love this journey. Thank you Light and Baldy for being to amazing at basic lore delivery done in such an artistic manner. Truly a work of modern digital art.
Being quite familiar with both aspects of wine, it is good to know how the Greek thought of it! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! And thank you for watching!

Hera had a very nasty streak in her when it came to Zeus's dalliances, and she did the same to Heracles as you know. Thanks for this tale I never knew Dionysus's origin story. As ever greetings from Kilkenny.
Yes she did.... One day we hope to do hercules, there are many tales involving Hera's nasty streak before that though! 😂
Thank you for watching again Robert, and as ever, we send our greetings back to Kilkenny !

Thank you, another wonderful telling!
"...she swooned at the sight of him. He wooed her with ease"
"...she left her to ponder the doubt, she had planted so expertly"
"The weight had been too long with such heavy thoughts..."
"He offered her riches beyond compare, but she refused"
Congratulations now I cannot help but want more😢.

Spooky just been reading Paul Cartledge’s Thebes and Dionysus’ birth and early life discussed. Semele was Cadmus’ (founder of Thebes) daughter and gave Dionysus epic back story. - BRAVO Balders ❤❤❤❤❤❤
We love to do our research here, thank you for watching! Dionysus is always a fun one!
I shall pass the love to balders !
- Lightbringer
I love how religious folks won’t admit or simply don’t know that their “gods” are merely copy and paste version of previous “gods”.
Wow, thank you!
And thank you for watching again my friend!
- Lightbringer
Time to relax❤️❤️❤️
We hope you enjoyed my friend! Thank you for watching again!
❤ this channel is there any chance y’all are planning on a Hecate episode?
We hope to one day yes!
- Lightbringer
Hecate is one underappreciated goddess.
This story is LEGENDARY! 🤯⚡🥰
Thank you so much!
- Lightbringer
I love Hera. He should have known beteer, after all Hera didn't want Zeus.. he forced her like the others.
Dionysus the most Greek God of them all.. 😂
He is well known and well loved for obvious reasons, but they all have their merits !
-Lightbringer
And Lightbringer ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you friend!
- Lightbringer
Sounds like Dionysus is gaining a lot of worship nowadays...
Dionysus is on quarter human since his mother a demi goddess daughter of Cadmus King of Thebes and one of the first heroes and Harmonia daughter of Ares and Aphrodite
diony sus 😳
😂😂😂
- Lightbringer
Noice 👍
thrice born dying sol invictus - love is the laugh and life's funeral
He's literally me 😂
This guy is literally Dionysus
Thank you for blessing us with a comment my lord of wine and laughter!
- Lightbringer
❤❤❤
What is the oldest source literature for this story?
🟣
Is Dionysus also the God of Wealth?
Nope! That would be plutus, son of Demeter.
Wasn't Dionysus born of a virgin on December 25th and then rose from the dead three days after he died? Such a common narrative in the ancient world.💙
The story of Zeus and Ganymedes!!!
God continually cheats on wife, people blame wife. *sigh* (Not you, B! But far too many people.)
why hello there
general kenobi
- Lightbringer
I always think its wild people get mad at hera for her husband's infedelity. Like shes a goddess of marriage constantly getting cheated on, of course, she's mad. Im sure if she would have tried to leave Zues would have been petty 🙄. Hate that she went after the women and children (gives her a very lilith aspect.) But i always think its crazy they call her a jealous bytch rather than a victim of a wh0rish husband.
With wild abandon and lots of fell head over this s*** eating grin of a God.
But time March is on and it's all bag of bones.
DEBAUCHERY!!!!
WOOHOO!

It seems famiar ... story of jesus, doesn't it?
Who they stole from? I wonder...
