I think the reason you were at 5k in the second game so fast is cause the Afghanistan map is high elevation so you start at around 2k on the runway. I always remember having to be real careful in jet games on that map when it is really foggy, because you see the altitude being around 2.5k and think you can keep diving for a bit, but then you smack the ground all of a sudden.

@@anatolilukanov7675 You haven't played on Afghanistan in awkward BR, high speed jets very much then. The cloud cover can sometimes be so dense that they hug close to the ground. Often at the flattest parts you emerge from the bottom of the clouds and have only ~100 meters to pull up before you meet the ground.

A-10 is surprisingly good at dog fights because it's so maneuverable at subsonic speeds. The reason why fighter max speeds got slower after the F-4 Phantom is because the US military did a study after Vietnam that found that supersonic speeds were rarely used in air to air combat due to it compromising turn rates and fuel range, and so pilots typically slowed to subsonic where their turn rate was better to out-turn their enemies and get a shot off.

How well that goes depends on if what they're fighting gets flares. If they have them and are a faster jet, they should slaughter the A10's if they fly decently. If not then its more dicey as any missed pass could end in an aim9l, which have pretty cracked with that range/pull on them. My best strat for killing a10s has been being way above them and dropping missiles down at them from long distance. Harder for them to see and return shots are difficult due to the 9l having to climb to you. Also, since ta10's move so slow, you can take long shots - like 5km - with aim9j and it'll have the legs to make it since its like your firing at a stalled out supersonic lol.
@@ovrwrldkiler Except stalled out supersonic jets can't turn as fast as the A-10. Nothing can even get close without giving up it's speed advantage, and once it does, the A-10 has it dead to rights.

Only disappointing thing about it "War thunder problem". I was flying and got my left wing basically completely destroyed and ripped off and I was "shot down". Yet I still flew *mostly* stable till it auto ejected me. I kind of wish the kill system was less intrusive in these kind of cases.

Remember, while the A-10 wasn't designed to be a fighter, or to encounter hostile fighters, it was given the tools to deal with enemy fighters by it's designers, and by innovations throughout the years. A-10 pilots are trained on their strengths, how to effectively dogfight enemy aircraft, and also their weaknesses. They knew what to do, and what to avoid. Combined with the durability, maneuverability, weaponry, and countermeasures the A-10 had to offer, a skilled pilot could defend themselves and their allies from enemy aircraft.
I found the A-10 incredibly easy to defeat at 9.7. Just classic BnZ tactics, make the A-10 burn t's energy in evasion turns. If you miss the guns pass just zoom level and flare to avoid AIM-9L counter attack. Rinse and repeat until A-10 is dead.
First game had 3 A-10 kills doing this.

I've been having fun lately in air ab with my spaded crew and Specter gunship...I mean the Mariner. It's pretty maneuverable and your wings don't rip off in AB so you can dogfight. Right now I'm at 233 battles..356 air kills. Getting aces just letting the AI gunners work the crowds, firing in all directions as I bomb. Turn on the smoke and just dive in the middle of them. Takes a bunch of damage and keeps on going. It seems the preferred technique now is to just try to ram me.

Phly is has been almost 6 years since the Japanese tech tree was released. You have yet to make a video on the type 3 chi-nu at 3.3 and the so-ki at 3.0. Both vehicles need some love after all the nerfs to the Japanese tanks in the last few patches. Take these two out in ground RB and see if they are as bad as people say they are.

Hey Phly! About TURBOFANS… Higher bypass (larger ducted fan) turbofans are used on heavier airframes that operate at subsonic airspeeds because they are great for producing ENORMOUS thrust in those speed regimes. Those fans move MUCH more air than a turbojet of the same size, just at slower velocities. A gross simplification would be to think of the large fan acting as an ultra low gear bolted to the turbojet core so it can haul the ordinance and armor on an A-10 around a battlefield with agility.
So as a side note, the A-10 almost never carried and fired tripple AGM-65 Mavericks in reality. The inner missile coule cause flame damage to the landing gear pods.
When this plane is not meant for "air supremacy" more like slow Close Air Support. But Phly made it a Air Supremacy fighter jet some how. Good job and keep up the good work man. :)
240 flares/240 chaff set to periodic release with 5 second intervals gives you 20 minutes of continuous flares and chaff. Makes it nearly impossible for people to lock you. Lol

I’ve been hunting A10s in the F8E. It’s also one of the best times to play some of the fighters like the f104 or f100 that have fallen behind with recent additions. A10s are food.

Lol, intro is exact what i said on a10 dev server video mig15 and sabre vs all aspect missile. Also getting absolute brain overload in the first game, just to get an EC map the second is hilarious.
If I learned anything, playing the Mig 17 today, it's that the Mig is a far superior dog fighter in comparison to the A-10. I think my K/D this afternoon was 18-0 lol. It's like the Kriegsmarine in early WWII.. the happy times. I'm certain it will go down in BR.

Back when HAWX was a thing, there was a BS mission where all your sensors were screwed so you can only use guns. Restarted the mission with the A-10 and things were much easier.
So I was doing a little wikipedia 'research' and it turns out that the force that the recoil of the avenger when firing is actually greater than both of the A-10's turbofans combined, so if anyone's good at modding warthunder it might be an idea to mod in a hypothetical A-10 variant with improved engine performance by replacing each engine with a Gau-8, more than doubling thrust and reducing engine dry weight by about 1,700 pounds.

Phly. You can actualy go wiht the mavs as well. they are not to heavy so the dont effect you realy much. But are preety good for filler when you dont have what to kill near you. or for suprise air kills :D

Funny story, the A-10s actually used their Maverick missiles as a night vision gun sight. They just used the camera on the missile to spot their gunfire at night.
A-10 is quite a chad vehicle, ppl underestimate you a lot and whilst on papirr looking bad it's decent but it feels amazing when it goes well
Before the A10 came out I felt like the Harriers on GB were outmatched but now if an a10 is 6km we cant see them then launch a missile we dont see it coming and get no warning we have no flairs (GR.1) I feel like the GR.1 doesn't fit anywhere
I wanted to calculate the burst mass of a GAU-8 cannon myself. Assuming a projectile mass for a PGU-14/B API(DU) cartridge is 395g or 13.93oz, the burst mass is 27.65kg or 60.95lb/second @4,200 RPM and 25.67kg or 56.6lb/second @3,900 RPM.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the A-10 myself. Being slow is a plus because when you get to the battle it's halfway over (for either side)... I play with 6 2000lbs and the AIM-9Ls and bomb two bases (they require 5000lbs, so the third bomb is a bit overkill). If before getting there, some fool gets closer than 5km from me, they get AIMed at. Sometimes I die to their guns but they die to my missile, sometimes they just die. After bombing, I brrrrt at ground targets and have taken the 1st place quite a few times with just 1 or 2 player kills and over 15 ground targets plus the bases.
My KDR has gone up almost a full point in my Mig 21MF really just because of the a10 lol. Grinded the MLA out already also.
