    I've read there are multiple violations throughout the years, and it's sad to see the aftermath of the parking garage collapse in this video and yesterday's livestream. 😢 RIP to the one person, and hope the other victims are recovering. 🙏 The colorful tree blooms look so pretty, and I enjoyed the stroll through FiDi as always. Thank you for sharing this coverage and walk, AK! 🤗

      I noted that it was FULL of SUVs. I didn't see one sedan in the wreckage so the weight must have been higher than it may have been rated for. Also, if they were Electric Vehicles (EVs) then you can add another 30% to 40% on top of the normal weight for a similar petrol driven vehicle. The reason is the battery packs on an SUV can weigh as much as a regular compact car with some EVs being nearly 3 tonnes in weight. Not sure about America but in Australia all government departments on all levels are changing to EV's as a way of increasing their popularity among the public. These are issues that people haven't thought about but will present themselves in disasters like this.

      @@jasontempest4233 💯 I've read and heard this structure is almost a century old, so it was not built at the time to accommodate the unforeseeable heavy modern vehicles. The garage remained open for operation, despite the visible deteriorations, which led to this tragedy. 😞

      It's really upsetting that anybody had to suffer because of the structural deficiencies of the parking garage Thank you so much for watching!

    Excellent walk today! I like the older style architecture of New York's financial district. The buildings look substantial and solid. The older skyscrapers of New York such as the Crysler or Empire State Buildings are impressive and built to last; the newer glass and steel buildings seem ephemeral if not flimsy - just my opinion, but I like buildings that are solid. Thanks for this excellent tour!

      When they tore down the old Penn Station is was an exceptionally difficult task because it was built so solidly.

    Most interesting part at beginning seeing people going to work. Really. As I worked nearby until retiring last year, and I am only around there a little later in the day sometimes, made it seem NY post C-V decline was even worse, few people seem to be on streets and in shops compared to what used to be.

    • @ActionKid
      @ActionKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it does seem like there are fewer people than before. It's still very active though.

    I enjoyed watching this so much as I am waking up here in San Francisco.
    Your attention to the collapsed building is reverent and not prurient and is therefore comforting.
    I loved the alleyish ramble over to the courthouse area.
    May all suffering be redeemed... 🙇‍♀️

    I loved the way your video started off with cherry blossom trees. The car garage collapse is tragic but your walk was very nice. I think you should wear your press badge at all times for your safety. I feel that a perp like the one you ran into yesterday might think twice about giving you a hard time if you had been wearing the badge. Of course there are always those who would attack the press too, but I feel it would greatly increase your safety....just a thought..... Things are getting crazy out there with people getting shot for going to the wrong house, for turning around in the wrong driveway, and for going to the wrong car in a parking lot by mistake. (I've done that before) You can't be too careful. One false move and....Stay safe AK.

    We had just parked our car there for a week and left on Sunday. I hope the people I interacted with are okay, they had weird reviews but seemed okay. I was standing right in the entrance waiting for my car about 48 hours before this happened and thought the floor was looking a bit worn and sketchy. Awful tragedy.

    23:40 - That thin building under construction is New York's infamous Leaning Tower "Seaport Residences". They say it will cost 100s of millions of dollars to repair. The 60 story residential tower 'topped out' back in September 2018 and has been sitting there abandoned ever since the lean was discovered in early 2019. So it's been just sitting there open to the weather for 4 years now, preventing development of nearby sites to it's north.

    This area is a sleeper in terms of best neighborhoods to live in. It bustles during the day but gets quiet at night. It’s one of the most heavily surveilled areas in the city due to Wall Street and the 9/11 memorial, so I can walk through here and feel very safe. And, if you like Tribeca but hate their pricing, living here puts you right next to that neighborhood for less money. Tons of transportation options to get you around, too.

    I was walking those streets exactly 10 years ago on my birthday. I went to Staten Island but unfortunately it was raining and cold, still interesting though. The days before had been glorious spring weather and Central Park was blooming. What really takes me back is not the vision, but the sounds. Cities have unique sounds from the Clackety Clack of tires against tram tracks in Melbourne (and the bells) to the trumpets of departing ferries and suburban trains at Circular Quay in Sydney as it echos across the harbour, mixed with the crashing of waves against the docks. New York also had sounds that stick in my memory like the sound of fire engines, birds and other sounds echoing between the canyons.

    I think one of the things that needs to be addressed when it comes to older buildings in the city, is if they’re structurally sound, and how structurally sound they actually are. I know so many NYers wanna bring back a lot of the older architecture with the buildings from like the 1800’s-1900’s because they had so much charm, and character…..but realistically speaking, the only way that those buildings would’ve been able to stay in place is if they were already built from actual materials that would’ve been the best of the best back then, and still are the best of the best now in terms of safety……Or spending probably more than $500 on restoration, which would kind of take away that old charm, but make them safer.

    • @ActionKid
      @ActionKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good point, it's important for buildings to maintained and in good condition to prevent something like the parking garage collapse happening again.
