Ebrar KARAKURT has been playing in 2 positions for the national team success for the last 3 months. There is no other volleyball player in the world who plays both OPP and OH in a tournament (2023 VNL & CEV & OQT). She is truly amazing, incredible and very talented.❤🐺🇹🇷

We are so proud of her. I dont know if you've ever noticed but most of the time when a player is up to serve the viewers chant "Turkiye! Turkiye! Turkiye!" whereas when it's Ebrar's turn they're all "Ebrar! Ebrar! Ebrar!" This doesnt happen 100% of the time but more often than not.

There were incidents were Turkish volleyball fans shouted slurs at them, which is unacceptable, intolerable, disrespectful and straight-up disgusting in this day and age.

I agree with you that any person that looks down upon another group of people is unacceptable, intolerable, disrespectful, and straight-up disgusting. I find it troubling that you feel the need to hope "we all" (includes me I presume) defend another--I suppose you have some ideas in your own mind about what sort of people we turks or muslims or middle easterners are. Hopefully you have the wisdom to understand that neither a country's administration nor media nor far-right members represent or constitute the whole of the nation. For you to assume that someone who would actually buy tickets and go to a volleyball match OR faithfully follow volleyball online like this would have no idea what sort of social and political pressures national team athletes face is extremely infantile (or simply belittling) of you. I dont know about the volleyball fan incidents---slurs shouted---that you refer to so it'd be great to see any video or audio or news links. Thanks. @@elijahsackville-glucksburg

and while I have never heard of slurs shouted by volleyball fans, the entire country has known for years about the media/former politicians/islamists giving their two cents on what is another person's private life. You would have to live under a rock to not be aware of them, but you would also have to be extremely ignorant about the politicians and media channels and even religious folks who stand up against and react to such hateful comments. You're obviously ignorant of that. But I just realized maybe they call her name out specifically instead of the country's to give extra support to her if there are folks in the audience (again, never heard of this, but also never attended a match or saw coverage of it) who are shouting slurs! Of course, I am completely assuming that you're not making up slur-shouting incidents by volleyball fans. But if there is such a thing maybe as it happens they are drowned out by the majority. Luckily, despite stereotypes to the contrary, when some random person makes a hateful comment here, the majority does respond. Looking at your profile I see that you were educated in journalism (or just call yourself a journalist) so I know you're not going to purposefully lie about volleyball fans shouting slurs. Google gave me zero hits about it---it happens, but it happens in the US at the college level. So I am really looking forward to your links. @@elijahsackville-glucksburg

I have been to the semi-finals and final match in Brussels and screamed and cheered so much and loudly that I lost my voice for two consecutive days. A historic moment, indeed. Türkiye won for the first time the European Championship and showed so much strength and willpower. They were like a boomerang that seemed to lose the sets but then got back stronger and finished the match in the fifth set with 3:2. Congrats, I will cherish these memories in Belgium forever.
