Couldn't agree more. I went through the brunt of Sandy on Long Island. I have a passion for weather so I found the storm awesome. It was the first time I've ever seen 80-100 mph winds. Unfortunately, the death and destruction afterwards that got me upset.
This storm was headed straight for Tampa. I took refuge in a hotel further inland from the River. We were Blessed that at Punta Gorda, the storm took a skip to the right, and headed right up the middle through Central Florida. In hindsight, I'm not sure the hotel would not have suffered damage. Some people left the Gulf side and headed to Orlando, only to position themselves right in the path of the hurricane. This is a remarkable video and I'm happy all of you remained safe....outside!😮 , 🌀. Stay safe if you're doing this again in 2016.
Remember this day like it was yesterday, I had just moved to Port Charlotte two weeks earlier. I was not impressed with the welcome to Florida party to say the least.
Forget about strong winds and debris; it's the storm surge that really kills and destroys! Especially along the coast, where the surge can produce flooding to as deep as 30 feet, not to mention the mountainous, pounding waves on top of that, which can even smash through concrete like a Ford Taurus through a picket fence.
I can't believe that minivan didn't flip over!! It definitely slid to it's left about a foot or two though. I bet it was damaged pretty badly from debris if it didn't eventually flip over. I still can't believe something that tall took that wind without blowing over. Incredible footage guys. Do you know if that minivan eventually flipped or not?
Hurricanes are extremely fascinating. But, the destruction is causes are, of course, not good. Tornadoes are also beautiful when they are over fields and away from homes. I was in Cape Coral at the time of this, but I live in Fort Myers now.
I was once in a tropical storm - a water spout touched near us - very windy and crazy rains, a 'tropical storm' - this is category 5. I swore I'd move out of FL that day 🤐😆☺️
Hurricanes are amazing machines of nature IF ur a weather buff they're the time of your life.. if ur not you'll probably be terrified.. but once again the aftermath (destruction & ppl possibly losing their lives) obviously NOT GOOD.. Im 22 by the way
Most of the trees made it through the storm. Buildings not as lucky, The Hotel you see in the first of the Vid to the right??? It is no longer there. Torn in HALF! Best way I can explain it. Today? It ALMOST looks like nothing ever happened except for a few parts here and there where you can see a foundation, but a building is not there any more.
Yup I was in Hurricanes Charley and Wilma...awesome powerful thing to live through but quite horribly hot, humid, and boring for a long time. It was fun at first because the whole neighborhood was flooded so everyone just romped around in trucks and ATVs. Everyone was drunk for about two weeks too haha.
Same. I was in my apartment and my mother was out - I told her to immediately come back. We lived in a like, stone apartment building so we were safe from harm but it was frightening and we lost power for a week. I was 13 at the time, I'm now 27 and I remember it like it was yesterday.
@WeatherWarriordotnet LOL same here,, hurricane irene was bad here in south-central virginia,, the storm was fun but not having power sucked and cleaning stuff up XD
I Know that Parking Lot! Which building where you in? Do you remember? And I want to know the same thing that Irish Chris wanted to know, if the Van made it through the storm. Our House in Port Charlotte was one of the few houses left standing on our block. But the house across the street made a mess of the roof over our garage. Been through Tornados in KC, and Hurricanes in FL. Believe it or not I perfer Hurricanes, You have a FAIR WARNING!
This gave me a headache. Enjoying this was also a struggle. Try finding a less windy spot next time. Behind a wall og inside a truck. Watching this shaky, unsteady and noisy mess was really a hard task to handle...

That's the court house in PG. They were between the brick pillars and the brick wall at the entrance.
Mother nature reminding us who's in charge. Awesome.
