Great van absolutely beautiful love it 👍. Fair play i take my hat off to her for building the van 👍👍👍. Seems a kind soul too🙏. Great video thank you 🧡🙏
It's amazing the amount of younger people you see that are ex teachers. Would be good to see you talk to somebody specifically about the negatives of vanlife and how they overcome these things, where to get water, where to empty the toilet(cassette, chemical and separator), parking for overnight and for shopping if you're in a bigger van etc. I know it's good for veiws to talk about the positives of vanlife for the channel but to get the experience and knowledge of somebody that's been doing van life for many years to talk specifically about the things I've highlighted would probably get a lot of views. If you've already done a video about this just ignore me.
Yep, a lot of these make it sound like its a win/win. But the truth is that even if you shun being tied down to a house, you need someone who does not and is living in a house/flat, and who will let you use their address for your driving licence, log book, etc etc. plus of course the inevitability of the van breaking down or failing the MOT, and being stuck in a garage on a ramp for days, which it will at some time. And when you come to change your van, which you will have to do at some point in time, you’ll have to rebuild a new one all over again. Nothing against van life, I’ve been there and done it, but a reality check is needed to put all things across, good and not so good. Great channel. Cheers."
Emptying out the shitter is a real joy....Thetford cassette = 3 days max.... carrying a spare full cassette is a joyous experience too... need 100 litres of fresh water if you want a wash every day, without constantly worrying about water... solar isn't worth shit in a UK winter... If I did it again, I'd want a composting toilet.... a Honda generator.... and a wood burner in addition to a (twin propane gas tank powered) heater. Meh....Once you've factored in depreciation of the vehicle, plus lpg, petrol,diesel...road tax, insurance....it's similar to renting a flat.
@@thelifeofjools8384 You also have to live all day and night in one room, approx 6.5 feet by 10 feet (if the cab is blocked off) which is the size of a box room.

That was me about 6 years ago Jan don’t worry. It will come I watched a lot of TH-cam video and started buying second hand tools from Facebook market place. I practiced on small things first like cupboards and building furniture. keep your build small and simple it it’s design. Buy prefab units if you can afford it and just assemble them rather than cut them out from scratch and make your life easier. It’s about getting out there and don’t stress about how it looks to much. As long as you’re happy with it.
I am a H.S. teacher subbing in different schools, 60, hoping to retire in 5 years working 4 days per week, but I do travel to Cuba & Mx in January or Spring break, go to my home town in Montreal, Quebec with my oldest daughter a few weeks in the Summer and go camping with my grandson (6). I have a Dodge Caravan 2014 and I am converting it to live off grid six months a year at the end of March. I also want to purchase a piece of land to raise chickens & hens, have a garden & eventually live off the grid. I can tutor French or Spanish.
Love your video. Please could you tell me what electric set up you got. As I am looking to build my own. Would like to do the same as you. Kind regards Graham
Hi Graham, thank you for the comment. Sure thing I have a Victron set up which was designed through @tinybuildselectrics I spoke to a guy called Tom he was really friendly and designed a wiring diagram for me and advised me on what components I should buy for the system and what I would need. I then bought all the cable and crimped it all together installed a split charge leisure battery system which I’ve topped up with some solar power allowing me to be fully off grid. The split charger means that my leisure batteries get recharged through my alternator when the van is driving. And the solar powder generates enough electricity to power things like my fridge and 12v sockets. I have a 1500 W inverter to power my laptop and work devices, including my Starlink satellite. If I want to plug into a campsite, I just run out an extension cable. Any other questions just let me know.
I’ve increased the value of the van by doing the conversion to £15k from £6k, so at the moment devaluation with the extra mileage I’m putting on as a daily vehicle isn’t too much of an issue, as I’ve increased the value of the vehicle overall. All vehicles depreciate over time, I service it regularly. It has has some engine work and repairs done over the past 18 months. This works out at an average cost per month of around £25 which in comparison to rent which is £750 for my old house is still much cheaper.

It’s not about the destination it’s about the journey. I couldn’t live on the plane? Or ask the plane to stop so I can take a photo. Using planes and then hotels to live in would increase my budget three times over per month as it’s how much more expensive to live nomadically out of the van.
