What was the exact context behind casting the wounded British officer in the hinterlands of Canterbury in 1824? There wasn't a huge British presence (let alone, military presence) in Aotearoa at that point in time. This was the same time when the musket wars began to rapidly escalate and Te Rauparaha was in the process of attacking Kai Tahu.
