Red footed Booby bird

Filmed at Lihou reef 630Km out side of Carins in Australia 1993 while scuba diving in the area. This bird is only found on a few places around the world. The Red-footed Booby is the smallest of all boobies at about 70 centimetres (28 in) in length and with a wingspan of up to 1 metre (3.3 ft). It has red legs, and its bill and throat pouch are coloured pink and blue. This species breeds on islands in most tropical oceans. When not breeding it spends most of the time at sea, and is therefore rarely seen away from breeding colonies. It nests in large colonies, laying one chalky blue egg in a stick nest, which is incubated by both adults for 44--46 days. The nest is usually placed in a tree or bush, but rarely it may nest on the ground. It may be three months before the young first fly, and five months before they make extensive flights. Red-footed Boobies are spectacular divers, plunging into the ocean at high speeds to catch prey. They mainly eat small fish or squid which gather in groups near the surface. This is an excellent video. I love the music too. They are so cute. That one big fluffy chick was awesome. I recently saw one of these flying on my vacation. It was the brown phase and I saw a brown one in your vid. I also liked you filmed the frigate birds.

Kept these as pets when i was a kid in the Marshall Islands. We feed them mashed up fresh deep sea fish. They would grow up and fly away and be independent.

The blue-footed booby is one of only two species of booby that raises more than one chick in a breeding cycle. The female blue-footed booby lays two or three eggs. Eggs are laid about four to five days apart.
Red Footed Booby birds are often known for their rather harrowing displays of siblicide; however, interestingly, red-footed females only lay one egg, saving the birds from this selective pressure
