For years I have always wanted to get into reading Tom Clancy and I picked up my first book this week which is the paperback copy of this book because after researching I found out that this book is chronologically first in the Jack Ryan universe… I am very OCD and I have to read book series chronologically…It’s a sickness really 😂😂 So the timing was perfect for this review and I am looking forward to watching your reviews of all of the other Jack Ryan/Jack Ryan Jr universe books in the Tom Clancy collection by him and his co authors and ghost writers which have kept the series going… I don’t mind that other writers have kept the brand going as long as they keep up with the current times we are living in and that they are fairly well written and stick somewhat closely to the original storyline…
Stephen king is also not a perfect writer to be honest. The way he loses himself describing everything puts me off. I like his shorter novels but longers I get bored lol Clancy is the master of thrillers as king on horror (today's horror)
I read this when I was 15 years old. I loved it. I thought it was absolutely badass. Wish the movie was like the book. The movie didn’t deserve to use that title.
Loved this book. The prototype for stories like taken and a message from the king. You didn't mention Barry eisler's John rain, highly recommend if you haven't read it and you like this or the Bourne series
I just bought Without Remorse and it is my first action thriller book to read. How do you cope up with the technical terms like military vehicles and other machine parts? I wanna learn how to understand them.
i have a problem with Clancy nowadays because he's become a brand and who actually writes them? same with Ludlum. i want the actual work, not some synthetic. i read Red October and Patriot Games and stopped there. interesting to see that H.P Lovecraft was an influence. he reminds me of Jerry Pournelle, way too far to the right and a pseudo techie.
It sucks. Clancy produced two good works. Red Storm Rising and The Sum of All Fears. The rest were mediocrity. Worse than anything Doormat Mccarthy wrote. Read Hemingway Dostoyevsky etc. Try east of eden mice and men great Gatsby. DUH!
This is one of my favorite books of all time. It's a shame that the movie was nothing like the book.

Without Remorse and its sequel Rainbow 6 are Clancy's two best books IMHO. The scene with the air tank is absolutely unnerving.

I'm the same way, I have to read every book series and video game series in chronological order.
This is my favorite of Clancy's novels. Both the character and the storytelling top notch!
I need to try this series. Kind of put it off ever since Stephen King said Clancy was a terrible writer.
