  • After installing a new aftermarket carb this cultivator still will not start, thinking I received a lemon I ordered another carb and after receiving the 2nd carb it became clear as to why the 1st carb would not allow the cultivator to run so follow along and I will explain what the issue was with the 1st carb and I will do a start up to see how it runs.

    The reason I came to this vide was to actually see the installation. Wish you would have shown that.

    I saw in other comments you said that 5050 at best is the success rate with aftermarket carbs for this. Whats the success rate on reconditiining one that has methanol damage and getting it to work? Honest question. Can it be done? Is it worth it? Thanks. Take care.

      Honestly it really depends on how damaged the carb is, if you have a sonicator to clean the carb in then it's maybe a 50/50 shot, really depends on how much corrosion is in the passages.
      If you can clean and recover the oem carb that is the best bet but with the Ethanol gas we have today it generally a crap shoot as to whether it can be done.
      Success rate that I typically see is maybe 40% and with the low cost of the Chinese carbs it way easier to just replace them.
      If you choose this way I suggest using Amazon Prime so you have a return policy if you get a junk one

    Hi, Craig, I have a old craftman mini tiller. It won’t start, I cleaned the caburetor and replaced the spark plug; it’s still not starting. Any suggestions or solution? I will appreciate

      Start with the basics, spark, fuel and compression. If you have spark and compression put a small amount of 2 mix fuel in the carb while holding the throttle open, if it's still a no go then pull the muffler and check the piston to see if its scored, if it is there's no need to go any further its wasted.
      If it's still a no go then there could be a gross vacuum leak, check the crank seals, base gasket if the cylinder is removable, and check the gasket behind the coil mounting plate, could also be the flywheel key is partially or fully sheared and eventhough you replaced the plug it still could be bad, I've ran into that many times with the knock off plugs or the coil could be out of whack and not producing a spark at the proper time. Good luck

      @@craigtimmons3468 another question, I used WD 40 to clean the carburetor, not use the special cleaner. Is that ok ?

    • @craigtimmons3468
      @craigtimmons3468  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnson249 It will not hurt anything, but WD40 is not a cleaner so if there were a blockage in one or more of the passages it more than likely still there.
      I will soak in a carb cleaner (Berrymens) for 24hrs at a time flushing/rinsing with hot watter then a good spray down with Break Clean.
      My results are a bit better than 50/50.
      For cheaper newer home owner equipment I like aftermarket carbs from Farmertec or Hipa.

    Blame yourself. You can buy those carbs ranging from $4 to $89. You bought the $4 one expecting a $25 one.

    Pretty major oversight at the factory. How much wasted time, money, and frustration have these poor quality chinese carbs caused? Slave labor just aint what it used to be. Seriously, sometimes it seems like chinese quality is getting worse over time rather than better.

      I agree, I've had real good luck with Farmertec's Hutzl Brand, but this pretictular carb was from Amazon and my experience with the ones sold on Amazon is 50/50 at best.
