Interesting video Greg. I really like my. GEM's, they are a great tree that produces well. I wish more growers would grow them.

Got some GEMs from Greg Alder just recently and they were awesome Avocados. Great taste, ripened well, larger than most Hass, and didn't turn black right away after cutting them, making them great for sandwiches and salads. I've been reading though that GEM doesn't do so well in the hot interior of Riverside, CA, so I might get a Gwen instead.

Hi Greg, from West Paso Robles Ca. Zone 8b. elevation 2000. I find Gem, Gwen, Carmen and Don Gillogly is precocious. Plus the trees it's holding more fruits than other varieties of avocados. I have 20+varieties of avocados planted without protection in the winter. Too early for me to say how Gem, Gwen, Carmen, Gillogly fruits will do in the winter of Paso Robles. This is the first year Gem, Gwen, Carmen, Gillogly is producing fruits. My other varieties is producing lots of fruits. But most of the fruit dropped. Except Bacon, Wurtz, Lamp. The rest of my other varieties still have few fruit left on the tree. I am hoping because my trees still young and in couple years my tree will able to hold more fruits ? Time will tell.
Plus all of my other varieties of avocados survive snow that lasted for three days Feb 25-2023.Did not even burn. I have photos & video to prove it. I have lots of other subtropical fruit trees on my property and nothing die or burn that year.
