    I love the simplicity of the plastic gear container on your PDL compartment. Great idea! New subscriber earned!

    Thanks for this video. I am going to pick mine up in a couple days, and was wondering what little mods people were doing, or what quirks they have found. Tight lines!

    • @kayakfishingworks1304
      @kayakfishingworks1304  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am still really enjoying mine. The one quirk that does bother me is when standing if there is any wind from behind the water will slap against the underside of the rear of the hull. Not really a problem if you slide the seat all the way back. But that is sometimes a pain when you are moving around trying to hit different spots fishing. Other mods, I have added lights and made cool storage pockets under the seat to hold 3600 plano boxes. May make a video on those mods.

    Love this kayak! How did you instal the sonar unit wiring? I see you have the Hobie threw hull cap but did you feed the wires in a scupper or how did that work? Thanks

    • @kayakfishingworks1304
      @kayakfishingworks1304  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feed the wire to the transducer up through the scupper that goes down into the transducer area. Then used one of the Hobie through hulls to go inside the hull above this scupper. Next used another Hobie through hull above the starboard side pocket. My battery sits inside the hull under the seat area.

    So on a different video rewing this kayak. He mentioned the large are that needs to be open in shallow water for the drive to be up. So water would get on the deck. Yes most drained but was still some left. Is this an issue? Especially getting in and out in shallow water?

    • @kayakfishingworks1304
      @kayakfishingworks1304  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you are going to get water in. Eventually, it drains but as soon as you stand or open the drive up again you will get some more water in. I just don't store anything that I do not want to get wet on the deck. I have a medium sized cheap plastic container I slide under the seat to put some items in that which keeps them dry. I absolutely wish the water coming in was not the case but for me it is really not any big deal. When temps are cold I wear NRX boots so not worried about my feet getting wet. When it is warm I don't really care if my feet get wet.. Hope that helps.

    What’s the mat you use at the end of the video?

      It's just a vinyl covered foam gym mat. I got it years ago when a daycare was shutting down. Closest thing I have found to it lately is a yoga mat.

    Hi, thanks for the videos! Im considering the pdl or the 2019 outback. Kayak shopping has been a nightmare. Which cart are you using for the pdl?

    • @kayakfishingworks1304
      @kayakfishingworks1304  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daniel, thanks! Yeah, you can't go wrong with either of those choices. I test drove the Outback after I got my pdl. I like the new redesign and it is fast. Pretty sure the PDL is a little more stable but the Outback is plenty stable also. I like the higher seat position in the PDL but I have an old back. As far as the wheels go it is actually something I made (can see it at the end of this video). I cut the axles off of one of those $40 Malone kayak karts and attached them to a piece of wood with screws straight through the aluminum tube (nothing fancy)., There are two pieces of that heavy black rubber bungee material with an s-biner on one end and the other attached to the outside of the axle. I clip that to a paracord loop I have attached at each of the fishing rod holders. I can pull the wheels off and store it in the hull or usually just set it across the rear of the tank well. Plan to do a video on kayak carts soon.

      @@kayakfishingworks1304 Thank you! Yes, my back has some issues also, especially my lower back, so I think a higher seat will help me too. I was wondering if pedaling or pushing would be better also. Looking forward to your cart video. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

    did the kayak come with scupper plugs?

  • @aliikane
    @aliikane 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I noticed from several Topwater PDL review videos that water seems to get into the kayak quite easily. Do you know if the water coming through the scupper holes or pedal drive? I think that would be the first issue I would try to find a solution for.

    • @kayakfishingworks1304
      @kayakfishingworks1304  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It comes through the seals between the drive unit and drive hole. Bugged me at first but after fishing out of it for awhile I do not even think about it much. Water drains out quickly. ( I am 195lbs and have a fair amount of gear with me.)

  • @eetechtom

    Is it possible to flip the rods so the handles face the front, and the tips are behind you?
    I’m thinking of buying the topwater pdl next month!

    • @kayakfishingworks1304
      @kayakfishingworks1304  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I suppose you could but then your reels are going to be exposed to splashing water, rod tips and guides might be more susceptible to damage stuffing them under the seat and you are going to put a lot of stress on the rod blank when lifting the rod in the middle or towards the end when extracting it from under the seat.

    Just picked mine up. Installing a garmin 73sv echo plus. This boat doesn't seem as "modern friendly " as my vibe sg130 was. Having a hard time deciding where and how to place battery and run wires. I know I'm anal about a clean install. Any ideas.

      "MOD"

    • @kayakfishingworks1304
      @kayakfishingworks1304  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey @@davidwatkins9976 , congrats on the new PDL. That is funny, I was also in a SG 130 and and mounted my 73sv onto the PDL. I mounted two batteries, one between the scupper tubes under the seat area and one between the scupper tubes at the front of the rear tankwell. I secure them in place with these 2" wide velcro belts that go around the scupper tubes. I also have an SAE connector port ( installed by the side of the cup holder ) that is wired into the batteries. I use this to power either a USB charger when on the water and can plug my battery charger into this port when off the water. I leave my batteries in the kayak but do use quick disconnect fittings for everything if I need to remove them. You can get SAE connectors from Yakpower or Amazon . They are pretty inexpensive and make removing and adding accessories much easier.
      After using my fish finder in the current location I do think I might try adding a longer boom so that I can reach the buttons without leaning forward while peddling.

    How do you like the pedal drive so far?

    • @kayakfishingworks1304
      @kayakfishingworks1304  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome kayak. Super stable, fishes like a bigger kayak, nice high seat height, and pedal drive is really smooth and quiet (in my opinion the best propeller drive out there). Got to demo the redesigned Hobie Outback. Outback is much faster and has a lot of nice additions but $800 more and I like the seat height better with the PDL.
