  • This is just a quick update on two restorations I did previously on this channel. I mentioned in both that I needed an engraved or etched plate to complete the restorations. After months of work, I've finally been able to find a source and get them made. Here are the final results.

You can make these plates yourself the same way as PCB, and use nitric acid for etching.
    Your restored receivers are beautifull.

Something I never tried. I don't even know where to begin. It's that fine detail that puzzles me. I would love to try it sometime though.

    Fantastic stuff I must say.
Funny that something that was an easy task 100 years ago is almost impossible today.
This is probably a silly question, but wouldn't it be possible to CNC instead of etching the plate?

I would have thought the same, but apparently not. I don't know what it is, but for some reason, companies that had CNC machines, couldn't get past the fact that I needed the letters to be raised. It was insane. I have found a few companies that will do the etching after I found the one that I contracted with. You still have to pay a setup fee, graphic editing, and have a minimum number of plates based on the size of the brass stock they use.

Another lost art that has come good.
